Glucose Tolerance-Improving Activity of Helichrysoside in Mice and Its Structural Requirements for Promoting Glucose and Lipid Metabolism.

An acylated flavonol glycoside, helichrysoside, at a dose of 10 mg/kg/day per os for 14 days, improved the glucose tolerance in mice without affecting the food intake, visceral fat weight, liver weight, and other plasma parameters. In this study, using hepatoblastoma-derived HepG2 cells, helichrysoside, trans-tiliroside, and kaempferol 3-O-β-D-glucopyranoside enhanced glucose consumption from the medium, but their aglycones and p-coumaric acid did not show this activity. In addition, several acylated flavonol glycosides were synthesized to clarify the structural requirements for lipid metaboli

Bumetanide as a Model NDSRI Substrate: N-nitrosobumetanide Impurity Formation and its Inhibition in Bumetanide Tablets.

Nitrosamine compounds are classified as potential human carcinogens, the origin of these impurities can be broadly classified in two categories, nitrosamine impurity found in drug products that are not associated with the Active Pharmaceutical Ingredient (API), such as N-nitrosodimethylamine (NDMA) or nitrosamine impurities associated with the API, such as nitrosamine drug substance-related impurities (NDSRIs). The mechanistic pathway for the formation of these two classes of impurities can be different and the approach to mitigate the risk should be tailored to address the specific concern. I

Improving the processability and digestion resistance of rice starch gel through linear chain-ferulic acid V-type complexation and branch-mediated crosslinking.

Ferulic acid (FA) reduces starch digestibility but disrupts gel network, limiting its application in gel strength-reliant products. Rice starch was sequentially modified by pullulanase and transglucosidase to generate linear chains with a few branches (LCFBs), which were complexed with 0-2.0% FA to clarify how intermolecular interactions regulated the trade-off between gel strength and digestion resistance. At 0.5% FA, the hardness of modified starch gel remained at 98.2 g, whereas that of native starch gel decreased from 122.0 to 76.1 g. Moreover, the latter could not be shaped into blocks at

Effect of feruloylated arabinoxylan on the retrogradation and digestibility properties of pea starch during short-term refrigeration: Dependence of polysaccharide structure and bound ferulic acid content.

In this study, arabinoxylans (AX) with various molecular weights (Mw) and bound ferulic acid (FA) contents were prepared to compare their effects on the gelatinization, short-term retrogradation and digestive properties of pea starch (PeS). The results indicated that all AX samples could obviously impede the pasting process of PeS and inhibit the short-term retrogradation of PeS-based gels during refrigeration by hindering the rearrangement and double helical associations of amylose. More precisely, AXs with low Mw and the highest FA content (H-FAX) exhibited the strongest intervention ability

Interactions and structural properties of zein/ferulic acid: The effect of calcium chloride.

Zein is potential in encapsulating and delivering polyphenols in food industry. Our study investigated the interaction mechanisms and structural changes of the interaction between ferulic acid (FA) and zein under different CaCl2 concentrations. Addition of CaCl2 resulted in amino acids micro-environment and structural changes of zein and zein/FA complex, which was dependent on different CaCl2 concentrations. At 0.5 mol/L CaCl2 concentration, zein/FA exhibited spherical particles with rough surfaces. Fourier transform infrared analysis showed the decrease of α-helix and β-sheets contents accomp
