5 alpha-Dihydrotestosterone (DHT) and testosterone were measured by radioimmunoassay in the crude nuclear and cytoplasmic fractions of the axillary skin of both male and female patients with osmidrosis and the levels compared with those of nongenital skin. Using isolated cartilage cells from the epiphyseal growth plate of rachitic chicks and utilizing the fluorescence indicator quin2 for measurements of cytosolic free calcium, it has been possible to demonstrate that 1,25-dihydroxyvitamin D3 regulates the concentrations of cytosolic free calcium. The reduction in cytosolic free calcium is associated with inhibition of the activity of alkaline phosphatase. As several hours are required before an effect on cytosolic free calcium can be observed in the cells, it is suggested that the action is dependent on genomic interactions.

The study of tubal cytosol receptors for estradiol and progesterone shows that they are (in comparison with normal tubes) less in number in post-infection cases (proximal or distal) and increased in number in proximal endometriotic lesions. These variations are only significant for the progesterone receptors. These results are compared with those in the literature, and their implications, concerning hormone treatments used together with microsurgical tubo-plasties, are discussed.

Frozen tissue samples were obtained from meningiomas in 42 patients. Both cytosolic and nuclear fractions were tested for estradiol and progestin binding using equilibrium binding assays. The results were correlated with the age of the patient and the histological type and cellular density of the tumor.
