Width and elevation of the palatal shelves in unoperated unilateral and bilateral cleft lip and palate patients in the permanent dentition.

Patients with cleft left lip and palate (CLP) normally require extensive surgery from an early age up to the end of adolescence. These surgeries affect the growth of the maxillofacial complex. The degree to which the cleft itself affects growth of the maxillofacial complex remains poorly understood. By analysing the width and elevation of the palatal shelves in unoperated adolescents and adults with unilateral and bilateral cleft lip and palate (UCLP and BCLP, respectively) and a non-cleft control group, it is possible to gain more insight into the real intrinsic growth potential of the maxill

Three-dimensional inclination of the dental axes in healthy permanent dentitions--A cross-sectional study in a normal population.

The 3-dimensional (3-D) inclination of the facial axis of the clinical crown (FACC) and the size of the clinical crowns were measured in 100 white northern Italians. The subjects consisted of 22 girls and 21 boys, ages 13-15 years (adolescents), and 31 women and 26 men, ages 16-26 years (adults), all with a complete permanent dentition and Class I dental relationships. The 3-D coordinates of dental landmarks were obtained with a computerized electromagnetic digitizer. Clinical crowns heights and FACC inclinations in the anatomical frontal and sagittal planes relative to 2 reference planes, max

[Clinical validation of the caries preventive effect of mouth rinses with a mineralizing solution on the recently erupted permanent dentition].

This research was performed with the purpose of learning about effect of oral rinsing, every two weeks, with mineralizing solution (Minersol) on recently erupted permanent dentition. Reduction obtained in the incidence of caries at one year term ranged between 49.2 and 82.1% for first molar teeth and 23.4 and 36.3% for second molar teeth; both differences were significant, but no reduction was obtained in the incidence of caries in the bicuspid teeth. Preventing effect obtained is attributed to ionic incorporation in enamel superficial levels, which decreases the diffusion of acids acting in d

Distinct impacts of bi-allelic WNT10A mutations on the permanent and primary dentitions in odonto-onycho-dermal dysplasia.

Odonto-onycho-dermal dysplasia (OODD) is a rare autosomal recessive syndrome characterized by multiple ectodermal abnormalities. Mutations of the wingless-type MMTV integration site family member 10A (WNT10A) gene have been associated with OODD. To date, only 11 OODD-associated WNT10A mutations have been reported. In this report, we Characterized the clinical manifestations with focusing on dental phenotypes in four unrelated OODD patients. By Sanger sequencing, we identified five novel mutations in the WNT10A gene, including two homozygous nonsense mutations c.1176C>A (p.Cys392*) and c.742C>T

[DENTAL STATUS OF PATIENTS WITH INTRAUTERINE GROWTH RESTRICTION IN PAST HISTORY DURING PERIOD OF REMOVABLE AND PERMANENT DENTITION].

The analysis of the dental status in patients with IUGR in past history in period of removable and permanent dentition was conducted. 39 patients with intrauterine growth retardation in past history were examined. The clinical, statistical methods were held. Concluded that the child, who was born with IUGR, later in future life, has a great risk of dental diseases. The most considerable violations were found in patients with "symmetrical" form of intrauterine growth retardation. It is proposed to use clinical markers as possible predictors of periodontal diseases.

Orthodontic treatment of transposition of permanent mandibular lateral incisor and left canine in mixed dentition: a case report.

The purpose of this study was to present the orthodontic treatment of a unilateral transposition of a permanent mandibular left canine and permanent mandibular lateral incisor during middle transitional dentition in a 10-year-old female. A panoramic radiograph showed the apex of the permanent mandibular left lateral incisor to be resting on the mesial corner of the permanent mandibular left canine crown, which was ectopically erupted in the proximity of the primary mandibular left second molar. A removable appliance was used to upright the permanent mandibular left lateral incisor, after which

Correlation between the frequency of eruption disorders for first permanent molars and the occurrence of malocclusions in early mixed dentition.

OBJECTIVE: We analyzed the incidence of eruption disorders in 6-year molars during the first phase of mixed dentition, and then determined the risks for later dental arch development according to specific combinations of orthodontic malocclusions. We, thus, aimed to derive potential conclusions for preventative orthodontics. SUBJECTS AND METHODS: In this cross-sectional study, 8,041 kindergarten and school children with early mixed dentition were randomly selected and clinically examined. Examinations were performed in two consecutive years during the standard dental screening that school chi

Anomalies in the permanent dentition and other oral findings in 29 individuals with Laurence-Moon-Bardet-Biedl syndrome.

This paper reports a clinical and roentgenological examination of the teeth, jaws and saliva of 29 Scandinavian individuals with Laurence-Moon-Bardet-Biedl (LMBB) syndrome, whose cardinal signs are retinal dystrophy, polydactyly, obesity, hypogenitalism and mental retardation. All subjects had at least three of these signs, including retinal dystrophy. Compared with normal subjects, the group had statistically significantly higher frequencies of hypodontia, small teeth and short roots. In addition, the saliva showed a buffering capacity higher than normal. In conclusion, there seem to exist di

[Three-dimensional change of the occlusal facets in primary dentition before and after the eruption of first permanent molars].

A system to measure the three-dimensional architecture of the occlusal surface was developed to clarify the three-dimensional change of the morphology of occlusal facets that was considered as the trace mark of the chewing function. The three-dimensional measuring and analyzing system of the occlusal surface was composed of two components, the measuring system to obtain the three-dimensional coordinates on the surface contour of the tooth crown and the analyzing system to calculate the minute morphology in the three dimensions. The reproducibility of this system was evaluated with use of the s
