Locally adapting digital health technologies to address the global challenge of Parkinson's disease.

OBJECTIVE: To examine how 1Hz and 10Hz rTMS temporarily influence ratings of tinnitus loudness, annoyance, and awareness. The thalamocortical dysrhythmia (TCD) model of tinnitus was tested by examining changes in spectral power and coherence of resting state EEGs from baseline to each phase of treatment and correlating these data with change in tinnitus. METHODS: Nineteen participants completed a double-blind, placebo (sham rTMS) controlled, within-subjects study with crossover between the two active rTMS treatment conditions. An imposed order effect, sham rTMS first, eliminated drift of acti

Digital health technologies for metabolic disorders in older adults: a scoping review protocol.

INTRODUCTION: Metabolic disorders (type 2 diabetes, insulin resistance, hyperglycaemia, obesity, hyperlipidaemia, hypertension, non-alcoholic fatty liver disease and metabolic syndrome) are leading causes of mortality and disability worldwide. These disorders disproportionately affect older adults relative to those younger. Digital health technologies (DHTs), such as patient monitoring, digital diagnostics and digital therapeutics, emerge as promising tools for health promotion in day-to-day life. However, their role in targeting metabolic disorders, particularly among a key demographic of old

Proposal of statistical twin as a transition to full digital twin technology for cardiovascular interventions.

OBJECTIVES: We introduced statistical twin as aggregates of multiple virtual patients' data throughout the treatment at any chosen time point. The goal of this manuscript was to provide the proof of concept of statistical twin by evaluating the feasibility of detection of distinctive aggregates of patients throughout the perioperative trajectory (prerequisite for development of statistical twin). METHODS: We used a retrospective validated cohort of all comers with mitral valve disease treated (2014-2020) at a tertiary academic hospital. The end point was overall survival based on the decision

Home vision monitoring in patients with maculopathy: current and future options for digital technologies.

Patients with macular pathology, including that caused by age-related macular degeneration and diabetic macular oedema, must attend frequent in-clinic monitoring appointments to detect onset of disease activity requiring treatment and to monitor progression of existing disease. In-person clinical monitoring places a significant burden on patients, caregivers and healthcare systems and is limited in that it only provides clinicians with a snapshot of the patient's disease status. The advent of remote monitoring technologies offers the potential for patients to test their own retinal health at h

Impact of digital technologies on self-efficacy in people with Parkinson's: a scoping review protocol.

INTRODUCTION: Parkinson's disease (PD) is the second most common neurological disease globally, for which currently no one definitive cause or cure exists. Estimates suggest that 145 000 people with Parkinson's (PwP) live in the UK. PD presents with motor and non-motor symptoms fluctuating significantly in and between individuals continually throughout the day. PD adversely affects activities of daily living, quality of life and well-being. Self-efficacy is an important belief to improve for PwP as it enables the individual to develop confidence in their ability to exert control over their own

Technological advancements in the analysis of human motion and posture management through digital devices.

Technological development of motion and posture analyses is rapidly progressing, especially in rehabilitation settings and sport biomechanics. Consequently, clear discrimination among different measurement systems is required to diversify their use as needed. This review aims to resume the currently used motion and posture analysis systems, clarify and suggest the appropriate approaches suitable for specific cases or contexts. The currently gold standard systems of motion analysis, widely used in clinical settings, present several limitations related to marker placement or long procedure time.

Sex-specific assumptions underlie cardiovascular digital twin technologies: A narrative review.

Digital twin technologies (DTTs) are increasingly applied in cardiovascular medicine to support personalized treatment. At the same time, growing evidence demonstrates sex differences in cardiovascular anatomy, physiology, disease presentation, and outcomes. Whether current cardiovascular DTTs adequately incorporate these sex-specific characteristics is unclear. This narrative review examines how sex bias and inclusivity are addressed within cardiovascular DTTs and identifies where sex-related bias may arise within different components of DTT. A six-dimensional digital twin framework is introd
