A Meckel's diverticulum (M.d.) was seen in 70 children. Among 3233 appendectomies 58 M.d. (1.79%) were observed, in 12 cases the laparotomy was necessary for other reasons. 6 of 70 children (8.5%) with M.d. had complications due to the diverticulum. Ectopic tissue was found in 4 cases. Postoperative complications were not observed at the own patients.

The exact location of the urethral diverticulum of the bull was determined. It was found to lie 80-100 mm caudal to the colliculus seminalis, at the transition from the pelvic to the penile urethra. The presence of the diverticulum makes catheterization of the urinary bladder via the penile urethra very difficult.

Urethral diverticulum, either congenital or acquired, is very rare and becomes symptomatic when complicated by infection and lithiasis. This paper reports on such a case that was cured by radical excision of the lesion.

Two patients with intraluminal esophageal diverticulum are described and illustrated. Both had chronic esophagitis. One had a distal esophageal stricture, while the other showed persistent retrograde gastroesophageal reflux following hiatal hernia repair. Possible causes are considered, based on the presumption of intermittently or chronically increased intraluminal pressure associated with an area of congenital or acquired weakness of the esophageal wall.

This paper reviews the presentation and surgical pathology of 50 Meckel's diverticula encountered in one hospital in a 20-year period. It is concluded that in children with intestinal bleeding or a "raspberry tumour" of the umbilicus a Meckel's diverticulum is usually suspected. In adults with an acute surgical emergency Meckel's diverticulum is unlikely to be considered. However, a Meckel's diverticulum can give rise to surgical problems in many ways and at any age. In particular, the possiblity of an attached mesodiverticular band leading to obstruction must be stressed.

Acquired diverticula of the vermiform appendix are rare. Light microscopical examination reveals a herniation of the mucosa through defects in the musculature, often adjacent to a vessel. The pseudodiverticulum frequently is the site of inflammation.

Diverticula, or multiple sacculations, of a Meckel's diverticulum are a relatively unknown and undocumented pathologic entity. A case is reported, and another case recalled. In both cases, the sacculations were in the fundus. There was partial or complete absence of muscular layers in the saccular wall. A congenital origin of these muscular defects is more likely than is an origin from acquired hydrostatic pressure.
