OBJECTIVE: Surgical or endoscopic papillectomy may be one of the therapeutic strategies for patients with familial adenomatous polyposis (FAP). To determine whether prophylactic papillectomy is necessary for FAP, we investigated the natural history of the ampullary adenoma in FAP.
