There is accumulating evidence that ceruloplasmin, a copper-containing protein with ferroxidase activity, plays an important role in iron metabolism. Reduction of ferroxidase activity secondary to ceruloplasmin deficiency may induce iron accumulation in various organs as the result of impaired iron transport. A 37-year-old man presented with intention tremor of the right hand. Liver function tests were almost normal, but parameters of trace elements were abnormal: hypocupremia, hypoceruloplaminemia, and hyperferritinemia. Imaging of the abdomen showed a cirrhotic liver with increased density.

Acute toxicity of bis (tributyltin) oxide in the sweat glands in the rat footpad was investigated by electron microscopy and an energy-dispersive X-ray microanalyzer. Intracellular distributions of Na, K, Mg, Ca, Cl, P, and S were determined in type 1 Malpighian tubule cells of Locusta using X-ray microanalysis. X-ray microanalysis and electron diffraction made on granular metallic deposits of the gingival lamina propria, inducing partial periodontal tattoos, demonstrated that these deposits consisted of crystalline particles combining silver, sulphur and selenium. A case of sialolithiasis in a Blandin's gland duct is reported. Although minor salivary glands calculi are not uncommon, Blandin's glands are rare sites of occurrence. In this case, a calculus without decalcification is reported. Not only clinico-pathological features but also electron probe micro analyzer plus energy dispersive X-ray spectroscopy studies are presented. These studies reveal that phosphorus is contained in only the basophilic part of the calculus and sulphur in both the basophilic and the eosinophilic parts.
