Cutaneous cysticercosis is a rare clinical manifestation of the larval stage of Taenia solium infection. While neurocysticercosis is the most commonly reported form, subcutaneous presentations are often overlooked or misdiagnosed due to their asymptomatic, benign, and cyst-like appearance. The parasite's ability to mimic common dermatologic lesions, including lipomas or epidermal inclusion cysts, complicates timely diagnosis. This underscores the importance of thorough evaluation, especially in endemic regions, and highlights the utility of histopathological and imaging studies. A 23-year-old

INTRODUCTION: Epidermal inclusion cysts (EICs) are benign lesions lined by stratified squamous epithelium, most commonly arising in cutaneous or subcutaneous tissues. Within urology, they have been reported in the perineum, penis, testis, and scrotum, where they typically present as superficial, slow-growing swellings. Intra-scrotal localization with rapid enlargement is exceptionally rare and may mimic malignant pathology. CASE PRESENTATION: We describe the case of a 26-year-old male who presented with a painless, rapidly enlarging scrotal mass of two months’ duration. The patient had no rele

Background Epidermal inclusion cysts (EIC) are epidermally lined, keratin containing cysts which occur when keratinizing epithelium becomes imbedded in deeper subcutaneous tissue, usually following penetrating trauma, or, rarely, surgery. We describe a case of an EIC presenting as a late complication following open carpal tunnel release (CTR). Case Description A 64-year-old woman with a history of left open CTR 17 years prior presented to our institution with unprovoked left palmar pain, swelling, and fluctuance. Computed tomography imaging confirmed the presence of a multiloculated abscess

BACKGROUND: Clitoromegaly is often a sign of androgen excess; however, non-hormonal causes must be ruled out. We report the case of an adolescent with isolated clitoromegaly without clinical or biochemical evidence of hyperandrogenism.
CASE: A 16-year-old female was referred due to a clitoromegaly of 12 months of evolution. Examination of the pubic region revealed normal female genitalia with an enlarged clitoris, 4 cm long and 2.5 cm wide. The clitoris was painless, soft on palpation, and mobile over deeper layers. There were no signs of virilization, and the patient did not report dysuria o

Epidermal inclusion cyst (EIC) of the thyroid is extremely rare in the clinical practice. A handful of cases have been documented in the past in the world literature. A giant EIC of the thyroid is hitherto unreported. This lesion may arise from the squamous metaplasia of the thyroid follicular cells. Though non-neoplastic, giant forms can cause compression of the vital structures of the neck. In the present case, we have described a giant epidermal inclusion cyst successfully managed with surgical management.

Pilomatricoma is a benign tumor arising from the hair matrical cells. Most pilomatricomas appear in the first two decades of life as a solitary skin to a bluish colored nodule on head-neck area with an occasional sign of inflammation. Here, we present a case of pilomatricoma which appeared at 36 years of age with a history of recurrent inflammation and discharge mimicking ruptured epidermal cyst.

Background Carpal tunnel release is one of most commonly performed procedures in upper extremity surgery, with low complication rates. Case Description We report a case of epidermal inclusion cyst that occurred in a 44-year old man after carpal tunnel release. The epidermal inclusion cyst formed beneath the previous operation scar and induced recurrent carpal tunnel syndrome. Symptoms resolved completely after excision of the cyst. Literature Review Epidermal inclusion cysts are the third most common type of hand tumors. Although repeated minor trauma is the most frequent cause, surgical proce

BACKGROUND: In minimal incision methods for removing an epidermal cyst, the cyst contents and lining are generally manually squeezed out through a small opening using lateral pressure. However, lateral pressure can cause unintended rupture, such as intracavitary rupture, and fragmentation of the lining into small pieces that may cause infection and recurrence. Additionally, it is difficult to completely remove cysts that are larger than 2 cm. In this paper, we present a small-incision method using negative-pressure suction instead of lateral pressure for excision of large epidermal cysts (>2 c…

Epidermal inclusion cyst (EIC) arising from the breast is an uncommon benign condition. We report two cases of enlarging EIC of the breast in two women in their forties. The diagnosis of this condition may not be straightforward with imaging alone if an EIC presents as an enlarging lump in the breast and mimics a benign breast lesion, most commonly a fibroadenoma or malignant lesion with benign imaging features. Excision is usually recommended for a definite histopathological diagnosis and for the prevention of potential risks of malignant transformation. Asymptomatic stable lesions do not req

We report an unusual case of epidermal inclusion cyst of the styloid process which presented to us with decreased hearing and tinnitus. The patient underwent complete excision via a combined postaural cervical approach. The unusual location of the tumor and the absence of a history of trauma or intervention in that area added confusion to the diagnosis, which was finally made on histopathology.

OBJECTIVE: To document the occurrence of long-term sequelae after type I female genital mutilation (FGM) and describe the surgical treatment of epidermal clitoral inclusion cyst.
STUDY DESIGN: Twenty-one women presented with epidermal clitoral inclusion cyst after type I FGM at the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology at King Fahad Armed Forces Hospital, Jeddah, Saudi Arabia. The duration (mean +/- SD, range) of symptoms was 10.3 +/- 5.4, 2 to 20 years. They were treated by excision of the cyst with particular attention to preserve the remaining part of the clitoris. The technique involves

HPV-associated epidermal cysts of the sole (HAECS) of the foot have been reported recently in Japan in which there is positive staining for papillomavirus antibody in the nuclei of the epithelial cells in the cyst wall and vacuoles in the stratified horny material inside the cysts. A causative association with a newly recognized HPV, HPV 60, has been recorded. The authors report two new cases. The possible mechanism of cyst formation in HPV 60-infected epithelium is discussed.

Epidermal cysts are common benign cutaneous tumors that usually appear as slowly growing lumps of up to a few centimeters in diameter. They rarely grow >5 cm in diameter and are referred to as giant epidermal cysts. Although soft tissue tumors >5 cm are recommended for imaging examination and biopsy preoperatively, biopsy of giant epidermal cysts has rarely been performed because of the complications that may arise when non-absorbable materials are released from the cyst. Here, I report a case of a giant epidermal cyst in which a core needle biopsy was performed, and the cyst was preoperativel…

Epidermal inclusion cysts of the clitoris occur as a sequelae of female genital mutilation (FGM) due to implantation of epidermal components into the dermis. A slowly enlarging and painless mass on the genital region with associated discomfort is the most common presentation of clitoral cysts. Psychological distress, aesthetic concerns, and sexual dysfunction are among the top reasons that patients seek care for clitoral cysts. A 22-year-old Kenyan woman presented with history of a slowly enlarging and painless mass for 12 years that began 1 year after type 2 FGM. The patient complained of dis

An epidermal cyst, also known as an epidermoid cyst or epidermal inclusion cyst, is the most prevalent type of cutaneous cyst. This noncancerous lesion can appear anywhere on the body, typically presenting as an asymptomatic dermal nodule with a visible central punctum. In the case presented herein, an epidermal cyst with uncommon features was misdiagnosed as a lymphatic malformation based on preoperative magnetic resonance imaging (MRI). A 61-year-old man came to us with a swollen left cheek that had been present for 11 months. The preoperative MRI revealed a 3 × 3.8 × 4.6 cm lobulated cystic…
