The aim of this study was to determine whether neural tissue is present in the bone 'dust' given off during temporal bone drilling. Bone 'dust' from three temporal bone dissections was collected and examined. Evidence of neural tissue was present in two out of the three specimens. Neural tissue is present in the bone dust given off during temporal bone drilling. This poses the question as to the risk of prion transmission during such dissection.

BACKGROUND: The rate of eye injury is steadily rising during military conflicts of the century, with thermal burns being the most common type of injury to the eyes. The present study focuses on assessing the heat resistance properties of military protective goggles using three-dimensional (3D) finite element head modeling fitted with the tested protective gear.
METHODS: A computational thermal impact was applied onto a 3D biomimetic human head model fitted with two goggle models - sports (Type 1) and square (Type 2). The resultant temperature of the eye tissues and the thermal injury threshol

Five patients with ocular trauma due to elastic cords with attached metal or plastic hooks were evaluated over a 13-month period. Injuries included hyphema, angle recession, lens subluxation, choroidal rupture, vitreous hemorrhage, retinal detachment, and scleral rupture. Two patients suffered penetrating ocular injuries, and three patients had final visual acuities of 20/200 or less. This series emphasizes the potential severity of ocular injury due to these commonly used devices and reiterates a modification in design that might decrease the likelihood of accidental trauma from elastic cords

INTRODUCTION: Exposure to blue light has seriously increased in our environment since the arrival of light emitting diodes (LEDs) and, in recent years, the proliferation of digital devices rich in blue light. This raises some questions about its potential deleterious effects on eye health. The aim of this narrative review is to provide an update on the ocular effects of blue light and to discuss the efficiency of methods of protection and prevention against potential blue light-induced ocular injury.
METHODS: The search of relevant English articles was conducted in PubMed, Medline, and Google

INTRODUCTION: There is good evidence that long term exposure to ultraviolet (UV) radiation increases the risk of cataracts. The 'blue light hazard' is considered a risk factor for retinal changes similar to those seen in macular degeneration. Previous studies ascertaining the prevalence of radiation related ocular disease in pilot cohorts have not considered use of solar eye protection. The aim of this study was to explore pilot use of sunglasses and other solar eye protection habits and to gain insight into the difficulties encountered managing sunlight on the flight deck. Additionally, the p
