OBJECTIVES: There is a paucity of data on the coverage of multiple recessions. The aim of this study was to compare clinical results of connective tissue graft (CTG) combined with tunnel surgical techniques in the treatment of multiple adjacent gingival recessions.
STUDY DESIGN: The treatment outcome of 28 recessions of Miller Class I and 20 recessions of Miller Class II in 18 patients was compared. Body piercing seems to be increasing in popularity, with more patients attending for their routine check-up having had a tongue or lip stud placed. Many complications have been documented, some of them, particularly involving tongue piercing, can be life threatening. There appears to be fewer problems associated with lip piercing; however this case study illustrates the damage that a lip stud can cause to previously healthy gingival tissue.

This case report chronicles the clinical presentation and unusual response to treatment of a patient with rapid gingival recession and dental erosion secondary to local cocaine application. 28 children aged 6-13 years, with gingival recession localized to mandibular incisors, were monitored longitudinally to evaluate any changes of the labial periodontal tissues. Thirty-four areas of gingival recession in ten patients were treated by a coronally repositioned flap procedure. All but four of these areas had received a free gingiva graft previously. The postoperative evaluations of the wound healing were made at 2 weeks and at 1, 2, 4, 6 and 12 months after the final surgery.
