Periodontal manifestations of human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) infection were first described in 1987. Initially, the lesions receiving attention were HIV-associated gingivitis (now known as linear gingival erythema [LGE]) and HIV-associated periodontitis (now known as necrotizing ulcerative periodontitis [NUP]). The true prevalence of LGE was difficult to determine due to variable diagnostic criteria. Recently, LGE has been associated with intraoral Candida infection. The prevalence of NUP is low (< or = 5%), and this lesion is associated with pronounced immunosuppression. Current focus on

Inflammatory bowel diseases (IBD) are chronic inflammatory disorders of the digestive tract, and they involve systemic inflammatory diseases known as extra-intestinal manifestations (EIMs). Timely and correct diagnosis of mucocutaneous EIMs could assist with detecting and monitoring IBD. We present a case of 52-year-old male patient of ulcerative colitis with 2 rare EMIs together at the same time: pyostomatitis vegetans in the oral cavity and Sweet syndrome on the skin. They presented as multiple small white or yellow pustules on the surface of the hyperemic fragile oral mucosa and abrupt appe

Oral lesions have been reported frequently in patients seropositive for human immunodeficiency virus. A case is reported of HIV-associated periodontitis complicated by necrotising stomatitis and the development of an oro-antral fistula; the role of extractions in the management of this condition is highlighted.

A child with cyclical neutropenia was observed before and during treatment with levamisole. Marked clinical improvement occurred while on levamisole. Deterioration occurred after stopping treatment. The improvement was not associated with changes in the neutrophil or monocyte counts, nor did tests of phagocytic cell function convincingly demonstrate improvement while the child was on treatment.

OBJECTIVES: To evaluate the indications and dosing regimens for oral metronidazole monotherapy (OMM) for the management of oral anaerobic infections (OAIs) other than periodontitis.
MATERIALS AND METHODS: The study followed the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses (PRISMA) guidelines in literature of PubMed/Medline, Scopus, and Cochrane databases. Data were retrieved from reports published in English in the period January 1, 1980 - August 30, 2023. Joanna Briggs Institute Critical Appraisal Tools were used to assess study risk of bias.

Cyclic neutropenia is a rare hematologic disorder of unknown origin. Periodic decreases in blood leukocytes with relative neutropenia and lymphocytosis are typical. These episodes appear in regular intervals of 15-35 days and last three to seven days. They are associated with physical weakness, fever, septic complications and necrosis of mucous membranes. Between the episodes, the patients are in complete clinical and laboratory remission. We report the case of a 34 year-old patient suffering from cyclic neutropenia with ulcerous lesions of the oral mucosa.
