Comparison of immediate vs. delayed guided tissue regeneration in Infrabony defect of second molars after adjacent third molar extraction: a retrospective study.

BACKGROUND: The distal aspect of the second molar (d-M2) often exhibits infrabony defects due to the adjacent third molar. Although the defects can be treated by guided tissue regeneration (GTR) after removing the third molar, the optimal timing remains uncertain following third molar removal in clinical decision-making. This study aimed to compare delayed and immediate GTR treatments to assist in clinical decision-making. METHODS: D-M2 infrabony defects with a minimum 1-year follow-up were collected and divided into three groups: Immediate GTR group, which underwent third molar extraction an…

Adverse effects associated with a bioabsorbable guided tissue regeneration device in the treatment of human gingival recession defects. A clinicopathologic case report.

This clinicopathologic case report documents an adverse effect associated with the use of a polylactic acid-based barrier in the treatment of human gingival recession defects. A total of 27 consecutively treated patients, in whom guided tissue regeneration with a polylactic acid barrier was used to correct gingival recession defects, were evaluated. This adverse effect consisted of a midradicular-apical swelling, generally asymptomatic, with no apparent predilection for gender, age, tooth type or location (maxilla/mandible), or surgical procedure. It was observed in 14 of 27 (52%) patients and…

Guided Bone Regeneration and Connective Tissue Graft With Implant Placement in Critical Bone Defect Ridge: A 10-Year Case Report Follow-Up.

Implantology plays an important role in oral rehabilitation, but sometimes requires supplementary procedures to restore both functional and aesthetic parameters. The presence of alveolar bone and keratinized soft tissue is crucial for achieving an aesthetically pleasing result when installing an implant. However, the early loss of a tooth affects the anatomy of the remaining periodontal tissues, making it challenging to achieve the clinical results desired by both the patient and the professional. The rehabilitation of the dental arch with osseointegrated implants enables the improvement of pa

Treatment of a Hopeless Tooth with Combined Endodontic-periodontal Lesion Using Guided Tissue Regeneration: A Case Report with One Year Follow-up.

Endodontic-periodontal lesions have always been a challenge for treatment due to the reduced success rate in comparison to endodontic or periodontal lesions alone. This case report describes surgical/endodontic management of supra-erupted non-vital maxillary incisor with primary periodontal and secondary endodontic lesions with mobility grade III and severe horizontal and vertical loss of attachment apparatus in a 55 years old woman with aggressive periodontitis. The successful results at one-year follow-up revealed that with an appropriate case selection strategy, proper regeneration method a
