BACKGROUND: Helicobacter pylori produces a gastric mucosal inflammation characterized by neutrophil infiltration, due to the liberation of interleukin-8.
AIM: To measure interleukin-8 levels in gastric mucosa samples from children colonized by H. pylori.
PATIENTS AND METHODS: Thirty one children that required an upper gastrointestinal endoscopy for diagnostic purpose were studied. Antral biopsies were obtained for pathological study, H. pylori detection using CLO-test and interleukin-8 determination by ELISA.

Serum interleukin-8 (IL-8) production was measured in 43 Adamantiades-Behçet's disease (A-BD) patients and in 46 healthy volunteers using a sandwich enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA). To evaluate the role of interleukin (IL)-8 in meningococcal disease, a solid-phase double-ligand ELISA was used to quantitate IL-8 in sera and cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) from patients with meningococcal meningitis, bacteremia, or both with or without septic shock. OBJECTIVE: The aim of this study was to investigate the differences between the salivary levels of IL-8 in patients with Type 1 diabetes mellitus (DM) with (DM+P) or without (DM-P) concomitant periodontitis and healthy subjects. The correlations between the levels of these cytokines and clinical periodontal parameters were also established.

OBJECTIVE: To evaluate the relationship between mitochondrial DNA instability (mtMSI) and interleukin-8 (IL-8) activity in gastric mucosa of various lesions.
METHODS: IL-8 level in gastric mucosa was assayed using ELISA method. The mtMSI was detected by PCR-SSCP techniques.
RESULTS: mtMSI was observed in 11 out of 30 (36.7%) gastric cancers, 2 of 15 (13.3%) intestinal metaplasia, 2 of 10 dysplasia and 1 of 10 chronic atrophic gastritis. IL-8 level in mtMSI+ group [(76.8 +/- 3.8) pg/mg] was significantly higher than that in mtMSI- group [(48.3 +/- 3.6) pg/mg, P < 0.05].

Sodium fluoride (NaF) has previously been reported to induce a strong IL-8 response in human epithelial lung cells (A549) via mechanisms that seem to involve the activation of G proteins.
