For over 10 years, kyphoplasty has been established for the treatment of painful osteoporotic vertebral compression fractures. Its effectiveness has been substantiated in multiple clinical studies. Not only is prompt pain reduction achieved, but according to a new, large, long-term study, long-term survival is also increased. Sacral insufficiency fracture is a painful injury, for which no effective treatment currently exists. The objective of this study was to report on the clinical outcomes and technical aspects of balloon kyphoplasty, which was used in three patients with this injury. PATIENTS AND METHODS: In a prospective, interdisciplinary single-center study, 99 patients (173 vertebral fractures) were treated with kyphoplasty.
