Liposarcoma of the colon: a case report.

A 52-year-old woman presented with abdominal pain and hematochezia. A colonoscopy showed a polypoid mass in the descending colon. A left hemicolectomy revealed a well-differentiated liposarcoma forming a polypoid intraluminal mass and an ill-defined nodule in the adjacent mesocolon. She remained well 2 years later. A review of the literature revealed only 2 reported cases of colonic liposarcoma, 1 of the myxoid type, and the other of the pleomorphic type. Two other possible cases of well-differentiated liposarcoma of the colon were uncovered from the literature.

Mediastinal liposarcoma of mixed type in childhood: a report of a case with unusual histologic features.

We hereby report the occurrence of mediastinal liposarcoma in a 11-year-old female child. Dyspnea and wheezing of long-standing duration were the presenting complaints and a preoperative biopsy failed to yield the diagnosis. Histologic examination revealed heterogeneous areas with well-differentiated liposarcoma-like areas, areas resembling myxoid liposarcoma, and areas of dedifferentiation. Osteosarcomatous foci and whorled areas reminiscent of meningioma were identified in the dedifferentiated areas. Liposarcomas in the mediastinum are extremely rare tumors of childhood and the present case

Spindle cell lipoma of the oral cavity.

Spindle cell lipoma is typically seen in the neck/trunk region of middle-aged and older men. Rare cases of oral spindle cell lipoma have been reported. An entity described as myxoid lipoma of the oral cavity has rarely been reported but appears to be more properly classified as spindle cell lipoma. We describe the largest series yet of oral spindle cell lipoma involving the tongue (4), buccal mucosa (1), floor of mouth (1), and lip (1). The patients (3M; 4F) ranged from 31 to 88 years old. All presented with mass lesions. All were circumscribed and composed of mature adipocytes admixed with bl

Lipomatous tumors of the abdominal cavity: CT appearance and pathologic correlation.

Twenty patients with pathologically confirmed extraparenchymal intraabdominal lipomatous tumors, including two lipomas, two cases of diffuse infiltrating lipomatosis, and 16 liposarcomas, were examined by computed tomography (CT). The CT appearance of these tumors closely correlated with their gross and microscopic pathologic anatomy. Distinctive CT features differentiated simple lipomas from diffuse infiltrating lipomatosis and from liposarcomas. The densities of these tumors, including the variable densities of liposarcomas, were explained by their tissue composition. Lipomas, diffuse infilt

[Primary liposarcoma of the anterior mediastinum--case report and review of literature].

A 76-year-old male with anterior mediastinal tumor was admitted to our hospital. He had undergone mediastinal lipoma surgery 3 years earlier. The tumor was excised surgically. Microscopic sections of the tumor showed liposarcoma composed of myxoid tissue. Further examination of prior specimens taken from this patient proved this case to be a recurrence of liposarcoma. Poorly differentiated tumors, which pathologically tend to be more cellular with less fat per cell component, are likely to have high CT numbers. But CT number is not sufficient to distinguish well-differentiated liposarcoma from

Primary intrathoracic liposarcomas: A clinicopathologic and molecular study of 43 cases in one of the largest medical centers of China.

INTRODUCTION: Primary intrathoracic liposarcoma is extremely rare, and most published series lack genetic analyses. The aim of our study is to better understand the clinicopathologic and genetic features of these rare lesions. MATERIALS AND METHODS: Forty-three primary intrathoracic liposarcomas were identified and most cases were analyzed by systematic genetic studies, including fluorescence in situ hybridization (FISH), whole-exome sequencing (WES), and Sanger sequencing. RESULTS: This series included 27 males and 16 females (ratios, 1.68:1) aged 24-73 years (median, 53 years). Tumors main

Malignant mixed müllerian tumor of fallopian tube with multiple distinct heterologous components.

We experienced a case of primary malignant mixed müllerian tumors (MMMTs) of the fallopian tube of FIGO stage I. In addition to endometrioid adenocarcinomas, multiple apparent heterologous elements encompassing myxoid chondrosarcoma, osteosarcoma, myxoid liposarcoma, and well-differentiated angiosarcoma were recognized separately in each nodule. Those findings that divergent sarcomatoid differentiations are apparently present masquerading malignant mesenchymoma have not been described in MMMTs of the female genital tract.

Pleural liposarcoma mimicking carcinoma in pleural effusion cytology: a case report.

BACKGROUND: Primary pleural liposarcoma is extremely rare, and its most common subtype is the myxoid subtype. To the best of our knowledge, the number of cases reported up to now is <20. It is primarily a disease ofindividuals 50 years of age and it is more common in men. It has no specific symptoms except for cough and chest pain. CASE: A 56-year-old female presented complaining of chest pain and dyspnea for 4 months. An increase in homogeneous density on the left hemithorax, from the apex to basal area, with blurring of the borders of the heart and the diaphragm, was revealed by lung radiog

Asymptomatic visual field disturbances in multiple sclerosis patients without a history of optic neuritis.

BACKGROUND: Retroperitoneal or mesenteric primary liposarcoma is a malignant neoplasia whose prognosis depends on the biological variants, the radical resection surgery and the histological subtypes, as well as on local and remote recurrences. Liposarcoma is the most common variant of this tumour among tumours of soft retroperitoneal tissue. The purpose of this study is to evaluate whether the treatment of this disease, carried out at the Ivrea Hospital for urgent reasons, may be considered in line with the experience of high-volume Centres. PATIENTS AND METHODS: Between 1982 and 2016 five pa

Dedifferentiated liposarcoma of the anterior mediastinum: An uncommon case presentation and complex diagnosis.

Mediastinal liposarcoma are rare occurrences of liposarcomas, arising from mesenchymal fat cells. They have several histological subtypes including well-differentiated, dedifferentiated, myxoid and pleomorphic. They often present with nonspecific symptoms of mass effect on nearby structures. Surgical resection is the mainstay of treatment, but high recurrence rate remains a challenge. We present the case of a 70-year-old male with a large dedifferentiated anterior mediastinal liposarcoma presenting with compressive symptoms. Coordinated efforts from radiology, histopathology and surgical teams

Myxolipoma in the tongue - a clinical case report and review of the literature.

In this article, we present our experience with a case of myxolipoma of the tongue. Lipoma is a mesenchymal benign tumor occurring with relatively high frequency. However, myxolipoma, one of the histological variant of lipoma characterized by mature adipose tissue and abundant mucoid substances, in the oral cavity is quite rare. The patient was a 52-year-old man who noticed a painless mass on the left border of tongue about 2 years ago. The lesion was noted at a complete medical checkup, and the patient was admitted to our institution for detailed examination. The mass was a palpable, soft and

Posterior mediastinal liposarcoma simulating a lung mass: an unusual case report.

Liposarcomas constitute approximately 15% of all sarcomas among the mesenchymal neoplasms. They usually arise in the lower extremities or in the retroperitoneum but have been reported in sites such as abdomen, vulva and buttocks. Primary mediastinal liposarcomas are rare with less than 100 cases reported worldwide so far. We present an interesting case of primary myxoid LPS of the posterior mediastinum with presenting complaints, imaging diagnosis and management with a review of the current literature.

Nano-silver dressing in toxic epidermal necrolysis.

Perinephric myxoid pseudotumor of fat (PMPF) is a very rare, benign perirenal mass that has been described in patients with advanced and inflammatory kidney disease. On imaging, PMPF can mimic benign and malignant lesions ranging from simple cysts to poorly differentiated malignant liposarcoma. Histologically, it consists of adipose cells, myxoid stroma, spindle cells and inflammatory cells, mainly lymphocytes. Herein, we report on our center's experience with PMPF in kidney transplant recipients with allograft loss presenting for re-transplant evaluation and provide a review of the existing l

Primary mesenteric liposarcoma of jejunum: presentation like a cystic mass.

This report describes a rare case of intra-abdominal liposarcoma in a 67-year-old woman. The patient presented at Internal Medicine Unit in May 2004, to study of thyroid pathology. The clinical examination was normal, except for the finding of an asymptomatic mass in the abdomen. The patient knew the existence of tumor since time ago, but she confesses to have only occasional discomfort. In the abdominal ultrasonography a solid mass with large cystic component was detected but relation with other organs was not clear. Computed tomography revealed the presence of a mass with solid and cystic co

Well-differentiated liposarcoma of the paratesticular area: report of a case with fine-needle aspiration preoperative diagnosis and review of the literature.

This article presents a rare case of well-differentiated liposarcoma of the paratesticular area (spermatic cord) with a preoperative cytological diagnosis. A 0.6-mm fine-needle aspiration biopsy (FNAB) of a paratesticular lump showed many spindle and polygonal atypical cells with numerous cytoplasmic vacuoles. On the basis of a diagnosis of "malignant mesenchymal neoplasia consistent with liposarcoma," the patient underwent radical orchiectomy. A 8 x 7 x 8.5 cm, whitish mass was found, which was histologically classified as a "well-differentiated liposarcoma" (with lipoma-like, sclerosing, and

Lipoblastoma-Like Tumor and Fibrosarcoma-Like Lipomatous Neoplasm Represent the Same Entity: A Clinicopathologic and Molecular Genetic Study of 23 Cases Occurring in Both Men and Women at Diverse Locations.

Lipoblastoma-like tumor (LLT) is a benign soft tissue tumor demonstrating mixed morphologic features of lipoblastoma, myxoid liposarcoma, and spindle cell lipoma but lacking genetic alterations associated with those tumors. LLT was originally thought to be specific to the vulva but has since been reported in the paratesticular region. The morphologic features of LLT overlap with those of "fibrosarcoma-like lipomatous neoplasm" (FLLN), a rare, indolent adipocytic neoplasm considered by some to form part of the spectrum of atypical spindle cell and pleomorphic lipomatous tumor. We compared the m

Successful resection of a primary liposarcoma in the anterior mediastinum in a child: report of a case.

Primary liposarcomas of the mediastinum are very rare. We report on a 13-year-old girl who presented with a huge mediastinal tumor. The tumor was extirpated by a median sternotomy with a right thoracotomy. The tumor included the superior vena cava in the anterior mediastinum. It therefore probably originated from the anterior mediastinal fat tissue, possibly from the thymus. A pathological examination revealed myxoid liposarcoma. At 35 months postoperatively, the patient has not shown any recurrence.
