Posterior mediastinal masses secondary to lymphadenitis from esophagitis.

Two cases of children with posterior mediastinal masses due to esophagitis and lymphadenitis are presented. Both patients had gastroesophageal reflux, and in both the mediastinal masses regressed with antireflux therapy. Radiographically, the masses simulated a neurogenic tumor in one patient and an esophageal duplication in a second patient.

Syphilitic lymphadenitis: immunofluorescent identification of spirochetes from imprints.

We are reporting two cases of early syphilis with inguinal buboes which were surgically excised. Th clinical impression was lymphoma in one case and inguinal hernia in the other. The correct and specific diagnosis was quickly established by the application of fluorescent antibody technique to imprints of the enlarged lymph node.

A Case of Necrotizing Lymphadenitis From Streptococcus pyogenes.

Necrotizing lymphadenitis (NL) is a rare occurrence of necrotic, nongranulomatous lymphadenopathy. While idiopathic, autoimmune, and viral etiologies are commonly implicated in NL, bacterial etiologies, particularly from Streptococcus pyogenes (S. pyogenes), are exceedingly rare. We present a case of a 25-year-old female who presented with a one-week history of right-sided neck pain, fever, and sepsis. Examination and lab tests revealed an enlarged cervical lymph node measuring 2.4 cm and a positive Streptococcus A test. Four days later, the lymph node increased in size to 3.6 cm despite antib…

Diagnostic approach of tuberculous lymphadenitis in a multicenter study.

INTRODUCTION: Tuberculous lymphadenitis (TBLN) is the most common infectious etiology of peripheral lymphadenopathy in adults, in Turkiye. This study aimed to identify the demographic, clinical, and laboratory variables that differentiate TBLN from non-tuberculous lymphadenitis (NTBLN), as well as the etiology of lymphadenopathy in adults. METHODOLOGY: Patients who were over 18 years old and were referred to the infectious disease outpatient clinics with complaints of swollen peripheral lymph nodes, and who underwent lymph node biopsy between 1 January 2010 and 1 March 2021, were included in …

A Case of Necrotizing Lymphadenitis Misdiagnosed as a Neck Abscess.

Histiocytic necrotizing lymphadenitis (HNL), also known as Kikuchi disease, is a relatively rare sub-acute necrotic localized lymphadenitis. This benign, self-limiting condition is characterized by fever, painful lymphadenopathy, skin rash, and other systemic symptoms. Due to its nonspecific presentation, unclear etiology, and pathogenesis, HNL has a low incidence rate in clinical practice. Insufficient awareness among clinicians and pathologists can easily lead to misdiagnosis. This article reported a 27-year-old female patient who was admitted to the hospital with fever, neck pain, and enlar…

Group A Streptococcus Necrotizing Lymphadenitis: A Case Report.

Necrotizing lymphadenitis (NL) is a rare entity that can occur as a complication of bacterial cervical lymphadenitis (CL) and is characterized by unilateral or bilateral cervical lymphadenopathy. NL most commonly presents in females and most reports have been in Japan. In this case, we present a 37-year-old male with no significant past medical history who presented with an unusual presentation and clinical course of NL. Initial workup for Epstein-Barr Virus (EBV) and other infectious etiology was negative. Yet, aspiration later revealed Group A Streptococcus. When the patient's pain and swell…

Mesenteric Lymphadenitis Due to COVID-19 in an Adult.

Coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) is an infectious disease that can present with a wide range of symptoms. Abdominal pain is less common t … . Our patient's abdominal imaging findings represent a rare association of COVID-19 with mesenteric lymphadenitis in adults. The clinical course of our patient was smooth after discharge and he did not develop any complications of COVID-19 despite multiple risk factors. Our case reminds the significance of keeping broad diagnostic differentials in the emergency …

[Inguinal lymphadenitis due to invasion of Dirofilaria repens].

The paper presents the case of the right-sided inguinal inflammation of a lymph node as a result of invasion of Dirofilaria repens, the parasitic pathogen of subcutaneous dirofilariasis in animals of the canine family. The diagnosis was verified on the basis of the parallel application of morphological studies of cross sections of the nematode in histological samples and the molecular biological method polymerase chain reaction of scrapings of histological material. The localization of this helminth inside the cavities of the human body is extremely rare. Only isolated cases of atypical locali

An atypical initial presentation of AIDS as cryptococcal lymphadenitis.

A patient complained of fever on and off, difficulty in swallowing and cough (with scanty expectoration) since one and a half months and wei … e-needle aspiration cytology of lymph node was done and it resulted in the presence of cryptococcal lymphadenitis as the final report. Antifungal therapy was initiated with amphotericin B followed by fluconazole and there was clinical improvement. Ultrasonographical findings also supported it. Though it is a rare case (but not impossible) that cryptococcus is t …

Clinicopathological features of cryptococcal lymphadenitis and a review of literature.

Cryptococcosis is an invasive fungal infection in immunocompromised patients. The clinicopathological characteristics of cryptococcal lymphadenitis are not well known. We analyzed three cases of cryptococcal lymphadenitis and compared their characteristics with those in previous reports. Two patients were human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) carriers, and one patient was a human T-cell leukemia virus type-1 (HTLV-1) carrier. The age of the HTLV-1 carrier with cryptococcosis was much higher than that of the HIV-1 carriers. CD4-positive cell counts in peripheral blood were 5.8/μL (Case 1) and 79.9…

Paracoccidioides brasiliensis-associated dermatitis and lymphadenitis in a dog.

Paracoccidioidomycosis (PCM) is an endemic disease of humans from Latin America that is caused by Paracoccidioides brasiliensis and P. lutzi … erficial lymph nodes. Cytology of the skin and lymph nodes revealed pyogranulomatous dermatitis and lymphadenitis associated with fine-necked, budding fungal structures consistent with the Paracoccidioides genus of organisms; mycological culture derived from the lymph node aspirate demonstrated similar budding structures. Serological assays using exoantigens ob …

Coincidental diagnosis of tuberculous lymphadenitis: a case report.

The aim of this case report was to present a case of multiple calcified tuberculous lymph nodes found on a panoramic radiograph coincidently … sional diagnosis. A thorough examination and investigations were suggestive of cervical tuberculous lymphadenitis (scrofula), and the patient underwent excision of the same. The clinician should consider the possibility of chronic granulomatous inflammatory lesions in the differential diagnosis of radiopaque lesions.
