Discoid lupus erythematosus (DLE) is a chronic photosensitive dermatosis characterized by scarring and atrophy. Granzyme B is a serine protease found in the cytoplasmic granules of cytotoxic lymphocytes and natural killer cells. Perforin permits delivery of the cytotoxic granzymes A and B into target cells to induce apoptosis and cause target cell death. The current study investigated the expression of granzyme B and perforin in 25 cases of DLE and in 10 cases of normal skin by immunohistochemistry and correlated their expression with the clinicopathological features in the studied DLE group.

Bcl2-modifying factor (Bmf) is a member of the BH3-only group of proapoptotic proteins. To test the role of Bmf in vivo, we constructed mice with a series of mutated Bmf alleles that disrupt Bmf expression, prevent Bmf phosphorylation by the c-Jun NH(2)-terminal kinase (JNK) on Ser(74), or mimic Bmf phosphorylation on Ser(74). Peripheral blood leukocytic migratory activity (LMA) was studied in 51 patients with recurrent erysipelas versus 63 patients with primary erysipelas. A 75-year-old woman was diagnosed with clinical stage III lung cancer. The patient was treated with chemoradiotherapy and subsequent durvalumab, an anti-PD-L1 antibody immune checkpoint inhibitor (ICI). This article examines the role of VLA-4 in directing lymphocytes to sites of viral infection using the murine lymphocytic choriomeningitis virus infection (LCMV) as the model system.
