[Osteochondroma of the mandibular condyle. Case report (author's transl)].

A rare case of osteocartilaginous exostosis, also called osteochondroma, is described. The resection of the tumor through an extra-oral incision is the treatment of choice. The follow-up covers a period of 4 years. No relapse was observed and postoperatively the function of the temporomandibular joint was practically normal.

Postoperative Rehabilitation with a CAD/CAM- Fabricated Occlusal Splint Following Plate Reconstruction After Hemimandibulectomy and Condylectomy: A Case Report.

Mandibular deviation (MD) is a common reconstruction sequela after segmental mandibulectomy. Although proper postoperative rehabilitation is critical for MD management and minimization, the available information is limited. This report describes postoperative. rehabilitation with an occlusal splint fabricated using CAD/CAM (CAD/CAM-OS) and the results of a 3D occlusal analysis using an intraoral scanner (IOS) after hemimandibulectomy and plate reconstruction. Despite the short follow-up, adherence to postoperative rehabilitation with CAD/CAM-OS for MD correction, even during radiotherapy, was

Mandibular reconstruction with a custom-made CAD/CAM porous titanium prosthesis in a 10-year-old patient and the long-term prognosis.

Reconstruction of the mandible in growing patients following mandibulectomy is crucial for minimizing deformities and disabilities. Surgeons have been exploring various methods for mandibular reconstruction in growing patients. This case report describes the use of a custom-made CAD/CAM porous titanium prosthesis for mandibular reconstruction after the resection of ameloblastoma in a growing child, where the condylar process on the affected side was preserved. This approach avoided harvesting from a secondary donor site, such as the fibula or iliac crest. Preoperative virtual surgical planning

Oral squamous cell carcinoma with synchronous follicular lymphoma: A rare case report.

The occurrence of oral squamous cell carcinoma synchronously with lymphoma arising primarily in cervical lymph nodes is rare. Here, we report a case representing an infrequent finding. A 66-year-old male who was diagnosed with right mandibular squamous cell carcinoma and was subsequently found to have a nodal follicular lymphoma as a second malignancy. The patient underwent surgical resection for the oral squamous cell carcinoma with right selective neck dissection. The multidisciplinary team's postoperative treatment strategy involved adjuvant radiotherapy for the oral squamous cell carcinoma

Langerhans cell histiocytosis mimicking a residual cyst.

Langerhans cell histiocytosis (LCH) is an uncommon myeloid neoplasm characterized by clonal neoplastic proliferation of Langerhans-type dendritic cells associated with a reactive inflammatory infiltrate composed predominantly of lymphocytes and eosinophils. Only three cases of LCH mimicking periapical lesions have been reported in the English-language literature to date. Herein, we report a rare case of LCH involving the mandible of a 45-years-old woman mimicking microscopically and radiographically a residual cyst. The patient underwent enucleation and curettage of the lesion. Microscopically

Novel Reconstruction Method Using the Double-Arm Vascularized Fibula Flap and TriLock Bridging Plate System for Segmental Mandibulectomy Including the Anterior Border of the Mandibular Ramus.

This study aimed to develop a novel reconstruction method for segmental mandibulectomy. In the authors' opinion, reconstruction of the anterior border of the mandibular ramus using a double-arm vascularized fibular flap is important to prevent deformity due to buccal depression and the accumulation of food debris, thereby eliminating masticatory dead space that cannot be filled with prostheses such as implants or dentures. Using conventional reconstruction plates, the reconstructed bone positioned at the anterior border of the mandibular ramus required either fixing with only 1 screw or using

End-to-Side Cross-Face Nerve Graft for Mental Nerve Reconstruction after Segmental Mandibulectomy.

The traditional technique for mental nerve reconstruction after segmental mandibulectomy is to bridge the gap between the proximal end of the inferior alveolar nerve (IAN) and the mental nerve stump, which often presents significant challenges. In cases of the proximal IAN stump being close to the skull base or inside the remaining mandible body and ramus, approaching the proximal end of the IAN can be challenging. To overcome the limitation, a novel technique of cross-face mental nerve reinnervation with end-to-side coaptation to the contralateral mental nerve has been developed. This procedu

Nonossifying fibroma secondary to aneurysmal bone cyst in the mandibular condyle.

Nonossifying fibromas (NOFs) are benign lesions that unusually occur in the mandible. Nonossifying fibromas are asymptomatic and spontaneous resolution at skeletal maturity. Nonossifying fibromas associated with aneurysmal bone cyst (ABC) are very rare. In this clinical report, NOF secondary to ABC in the mandibular condyle was reported; however, it presents different clinical behavior than the usual NOF. In this case, severe destruction in the mandibular condyle as a characteristic of NOF was seen. In the follow-up period, no recurrence was seen subsequent to treatment of lesion with complete

Parapharyngeal Schwannoma of the Mandibular Nerve Associated With Auditory Changes.

We present a case of a parapharyngeal schwannoma of the mandibular nerve with intraosseous extension into the mandible. The initial symptoms included decreased auditory acuity, with subsequent magnetic resonance imaging findings suggestive of Eustachian tube obstruction. This represents a rare symptom of schwannomas of the mandibular nerve. Owing to the degree of bony expansion and cortical thinning of the adjacent mandibular ramus, concern existed for a pathologic fracture. Treatment involved complete excision of the lesion using hemimandibulectomy with second stage reconstruction. The patien

Plasma-cell tumours of the condyle.

Plasma cell tumours are a group of disorders which are characterized by neoplastic proliferation of atypical plasma cells involved in the production of monoclonal immunoglobulins. Bone pain, renal insufficiency and normocytic-normochromic anaemia are suggestive data for diagnosis. In 12-15% of cases of multiple myeloma, the first manifestation of the disease appears in the jaw bones and oral cavity. Two cases of multiple myeloma affecting the mandibular condyle are presented, and the incidence of oral and maxillofacial lesions is briefly reviewed.

Clear cell variant of intraosseous calcifying epithelial odontogenic tumor: a case report and review of the literature.

CEOT is a rare benign, but locally aggressive odontogenic tumor, and some authors have claimed that the biologic behavior of the clear cell variant is even more aggressive, with greater propensity to recur. We report a rare case of clear cell calcifying epithelial odontogenic tumor (CEOT) and discuss its possibly aggressive behavior. A 40-year-old woman experienced an asymptomatic expansion of the left posterior mandible. After radiographic examination and biopsy, a block resection was performed. Histologic examination included analysis of Ki-67 reactivity as a marker of tumor growth activity.

Intranasal mast cell tumors: Clinical, immunohistochemical, and molecular features in 20 dogs.

Mast cell tumors (MCTs) are an uncommon primary neoplasm of the nasal cavity in dogs for which there is a paucity of existing literature regarding their clinical behavior and molecular features. The objectives of this retrospective study were to examine the clinical findings, histopathologic and immunohistochemical features, and c-KIT mutation status of primary intranasal MCTs in dogs and identify potential prognostic factors. Canine biopsies submitted to a diagnostic laboratory in Colorado between 2010 and 2019 with intranasal neoplasms diagnosed as MCTs and no history of cutaneous or oral MC

[Intra-mandibular location of a adenoid cystic carcinoma. Review of the literature].

An update review of the published data (13 références) concerning primary central mandibular adenoid cystic carcinoma is presented. Those tumors are exceptionally located within mandible: the diagnostic could be evocated in case of body or angle radiolucency of the mandible. The most frequent diagnosis appeared to be an osteolytic odontogenic cyst. Surgical analysis has shown a very friable and low density solid tumor next to mandibular nerve. This pathology has a quiet and long term development (mainly pulmonary metastasis many years later). The best treatment consisted in bone resection. Eve

The application of chimeric deep circumflex iliac artery perforator flap for oromandibular reconstruction: A case report.

RATIONALE: The free fibular flap is considered the gold standard, particularly for a mandibular defect combined with a significant soft tissue defect. However, the fibular flap has the disadvantages of a lack of height for postoperative dental restoration and donor site skin graft if the skin paddle is wider than 5 cm. The larger bone and soft tissue defects tend to be reconstructed using either a scapula or a combination of iliac artery and radial free flap. Few cases involving reconstruction using chimeric deep circumflex iliac artery perforator flap (DCIAPF) for mandibular defect combined w
