Accuracy of maxillary repositioning in le fort I osteotomy using a mixed reality based navigation system versus CAD/CAM splints and patient-specific surgical plates: A preclinical study.

OBJECTIVE: Accurate maxillary repositioning is essential for successful outcomes in orthognathic surgery. Current studies on mixed reality (MR) navigation are limited and lack comparison. This study developed an MR-based navigation system and compared it with computer-aided design/computer-aided manufacturing (CAD/CAM) splints and patient-specific surgical plates (PSSPs) in Le Fort I osteotomy. METHODS: An adjacent-display MR system with optical tracking and automated registration was developed for real-time surgical guidance. Thirty 3D-printed maxillary models were equally assigned to three

Comparison of Skeletal Stability after Le Fort I Osteotomy With Bone Fixation Using Biodegradable and Titanium Systems: A Retrospective Study.

The titanium osteosynthesis system used for fixing bone segments after maxillary osteotomy provides reliable outcomes owing to its biocompatibility and adequate strength. In addition, several studies have evaluated the skeletal stability after maxillary osteotomy with fixation using a biodegradable system. However, the indications for applying a biodegradable system after maxillary osteotomy remain controversial. Therefore, this study aimed to compare the long-term skeletal stability of bone segments after maxillary osteotomy with bone fixation using biodegradable and titanium osteosynthesis s

Bone Substitutes in Le Fort I Osteotomy to Promote Bone Union and Skeletal Stability.

Maxillary advancement by Le Fort I osteotomy has become the standard procedure to restore function and facial esthetics, correct skeletal and occlusal discrepancies, and treat obstructive sleep apnea in patients with facial deformities. Incomplete ossification between the bone segments at the jaw osteotomy site has proven to be a major problem in these patients. There are several studies in the literature that address orthognathic surgery, but only a limited number that discuss the use of graft materials in maxillary osteotomy. Bone grafts were introduced in recent decades in order to promote
