A case of mucoepidermoid carcinoma originating in the hard palate was presented. Histological diagnosis of the removed mass at the first operation was pleomorphic adenoma. Tumor recurred at the same site three years later. Subtotal maxillectomy was performed and recurrent tumor was histologically diagnosed as low grade malignant mucoepidermoid carcinoma. A two-year follow-up showed no evidence of recurrence. The low grade malignant mucoepidermoid carcinoma strongly resembles pleomorphic adenoma. The differential diagnosis is important for the better treatment and prognosis.

Schwannoma is a benign neoplasm originating from schwann cells of the peripheral nerve sheath, and its occurrence in the nasal cavity and paranasal sinuses is rare. We present a case of nasal schwannoma originating from the left nasal cavity, accompanied by bilateral nasal polyposis. A 66-year-old man presented with complaints of progressive left nasal obstruction, hyposmia, and headache. Anterior rhinoscopic and endoscopic examinations revealed a mass that almost completely filled the left nasal cavity. A polypoid mass was present in the right nasal cavity, as well. On computed tomography, th

Sinonasal type hemangiopericytomas are very rare tumors, and are often called glomangiopericytoma. They are believed to be derived from perivascular modified smooth muscle cells. Their origin is similar to glomus tumors but some distinct differences exist. Glomangiopericytomas are indolent tumors and overall survival rates are higher after complete surgical excision. Recurrence rates are as high as 30%. We present a case of glomangiopericytoma which involves the orbital wall, noteworthy because such bone-dissolving glomangiopericytomas are extremely rare.

We describe a case of mucosal malignant melanoma in the sinonasal area of a 65-year-old woman. She presented with a history of nasal obstruction and epistaxis with subsequent tenderness, facial anesthesia involving cranial nerve V2, red eye, proptosis, diplopia, and conjunctival chemosis. Computed tomography detected a nonspecific solid mass that had involved the left maxillary sinus and surrounding tissues, with extension into the nasal cavity and invasion of the orbital floor and eye muscles. Histopathologic examination of the neoplasm revealed that it was a malignant melanoma. We performed

BACKGROUND: High-grade non-intestinal-type sinonasal adenocarcinoma (non-ITAC) is a rare and aggressive form of adenocarcinoma with poor prognosis. The current standard treatment approach involves surgery combined with radiation therapy. However, there is a need for exploring additional treatment modalities to improve patient outcomes.
CASE PRESENTATION: We present a case of a 65-year-old male patient who presented with pain in the right maxillary sinus and was diagnosed with high-grade non-ITAC following surgery. Postoperative pathology revealed tumor invasion into bone tissue and vascular i

Malignant giant cell tumors (MGCTs) of the sphenoid sinus are extremely rare neoplasms. They are challenging to diagnose and difficult to treat because of their skull base location. To the best of our knowledge, we report the first case of a primary MGCT of the sphenoid arising in a patient with Paget's disease. A 77-year-old man presented with epistaxis and a history of Paget's disease. There was normal cranial nerve function although radiographic images disclosed a large mass centered in the sphenoid sinus and extending into the ethmoid and maxillary sinuses. Excisional biopsy revealed a MGC

Ameloblastoma (AM) is a slow growing and aggressive benign tumor with an odontogenic epithelial origin arising from the mandible or maxilla. The odontogenic neoplasm invades local tissues asymptomatically and accounts for 1% of oral tumors and over 10% of odontogenic tumors. A 64-year-old man with a history of allergic fungal rhinosinusitis (AFRS) undergoing a revision image-guided endoscopic sinus surgery was found to have a fibrous mass suspicious of malignancy projecting inferolaterally and attached to the floor of the left maxillary sinus. Diagnostic biopsies were taken, and additional sur

Oronasal squamous cell carcinoma was diagnosed in an adult African hedgehog (Erinaceidae albiventris). Clinically, the carcinoma presented as a firm right maxillary swelling with deviation of the nose to the left. The carcinoma was attached to the hard palate and protruded into the oral cavity. At necropsy, the carcinoma appeared centered in the right maxillary sinus, and had replaced the maxilla and extended into the nasal cavity. Metastatic foci were not found.

Ameloblastoma (adamantinoma) is a benign neoplasm deriving from the enamel organ. Its etiology has not been ultimately determined. It constitutes about 1% of all head and neck tumours, and about 11% of teeth-originating tumours. Usually it occurs in the mandible near premolar and molar teeth, more rarely in its anterior part. About 20% of described cases of ameloblastoma relate to the jaw, its very rare location is gingiva or cheak tunica mucosa. The essay presents a case of ameloblastoma of a maxillary sinus in a 65-year-old man. The diagnostic and treatment algorithm in ameloblastoma is disc

A 38-year-old woman presented with otalgia and facial pain. She was found to have a tumour involving the right maxillary sinus and pterygopalatine fossa. Exclusively composed of a myxoid population of spindle and stellate cells within a mucosubstance-rich matrix, it was originally interpreted as a mesenchymal neoplasm. However, immunophenotypic characterization revealed a pure population of salivary-type myoepithelial cells with cytoplasmic co-expression of cytokeratin, vimentin, muscle-specific actin, S-100 protein and glial fibrillary acidic protein. Sinonasal myxoid myoepithelial neoplasia

A woman aged 40 years had experienced left-sided facial pain for some months. Dental treatment did not result in any improvement. X-ray of the maxillary sinus revealed a tooth in the left maxillary sinus. At operation, this was shown to be a calcified epithelial odontogenic tumour (Pindborg tumour).

An organized hematoma (OH) is a relatively rare benign lesion of the paranasal sinuses. Traditionally, it has been reported to occur following trauma, surgery, and sinus hemorrhagic lesions and in various bleeding predispositions. OHs are sometimes difficult to differentiate from malignancy because of the similar clinical symptoms and bone destruction. It is especially difficult when OHs occur in the same location as the primary tumor after treatment of a malignant tumor. In this paper, we report two cases of OH that occurred after intra-arterial chemoradiotherapy (IACRT) for maxillary sinus c

We report a case which involves the maxillary sinus by original of synovial sarcoma of infratemporal fossa and pterygopalatine. A 40-years-old man presented with a history of tumor under the earlobe. It is derived from the synovial sarcoma under temporal fossa after tumor excision. The patient is limited to open his mouth and nasal obstruction. The nasal pathologic examination consider synovial sarcoma. We report the case to improve doctors' comprehension of its pathogenesis, clinical manifestations, teeatment and prognosis.

We treated a 65 year-old man with severe facial pain after extended maxillectomy due to carcinoma of maxillar sinus. He had been suffering from pain at rest, on mastication, or at treatment of surgical wound. Various kinds of analgesics had been tried, but his pain did not disappear. At 17 weeks after the operation, he came to our pain clinic. Because his pain was thought to be due to reflex sympathetic dystrophy (RSD), stellate ganglion blocks (SGB) were performed. After 5 administrations of SGB, pain was reduced markedly but the pain at treatment of wound persisted. We thought that persisten

Xanthogranuloma is a rare benign tumour, part of the non-Langerhans cell histiocytosis group, uncommon in adults and even less common in the paranasal sinuses. Despite its benign nature, it mimics neoplasm due to its local effects which can have serious functional consequences depending on the anatomical location. We present the rare case of a young lady who presented insidiously with a maxillary sinus xanthogranuloma and was treated with endoscopic resection. Tissue diagnosis is of paramount importance to guide correct further investigations and management, and we discuss the potential challe
