Phylogenetic analysis and searching bovine papillomaviruses in teat papillomatosis cases in cattle by performing histopathology, immunohistochemistry, and transmission electron microscopy.

Papillomaviruses are epitheliotropic in nature and cause proliferation in the skin, mucosa, and various internal organs of various animal species. The lesions they cause, specifically in cattle teats, lead to significant economic losses in the milk industry. In this study, we identified the bovine papillomaviruses (BPVs) responsible for teat papillomas in cattle. The tissue damage caused by the virus was examined histopathologically using immunohistochemical, transmission electron microscopy (TEM), and molecular methods. Additionally, sequence analyses were performed on the isolated field stra

Platelet transmission electron microscopy for the assessment of poor biological response to antiplatelet agent: pilot descriptive and prospective study - ELECTROSTROKE.

INTRODUCTION: Ischaemic stroke is the leading cause of adult disability. Thus, a strategy based on an efficient antiplatelet therapy has been developed. The monitoring of antiplatelet therapy is now limited to high risk and poor prognosis patients. Indeed, the biological monitoring of the antiplatelet therapy with available platelet function assays do not provide a global integrative approach. Platelet transmission electron microscopy, recently validated for assessing distinct ultrastructural abnormalities is a reliable morphological platelet structural analysis tool which could be used to col

International consensus guideline for reporting transmission electron microscopy results in the diagnosis of primary ciliary dyskinesia (BEAT PCD TEM Criteria).

Primary ciliary dyskinesia (PCD) is a heterogeneous genetic condition. European and North American diagnostic guidelines recommend transmission electron microscopy (TEM) as one of a combination of tests to confirm a diagnosis. However, there is no definition of what constitutes a defect or consensus on reporting terminology. The aim of this project was to provide an internationally agreed ultrastructural classification for PCD diagnosis by TEM.A consensus guideline was developed by PCD electron microscopy experts representing 18 centres in 14 countries. An initial meeting and discussion were f

Ultrastructural alterations in adult Schistosoma mansoni, harbored in non-antihelminthic treated and low-inflammatory mice by transmission electron microscopy (TEM).

This original study suggests that alterations observed on tegumental structure and egg quality of adult Schistosoma mansoni harvested from TS mice are due to their high immune tolerogenic and low-inflammatory capacity. The tegument of worms harvested from genetically selected mice for extreme phenotypes of immune oral tolerance, resistance (TR) and susceptibility (TS) were analyzed by transmission electron microscopy (TEM). Parasites recovered from TR mice showed no tegumental morphological changes. However, specimens collected from TS mice exhibited tubercle swelling with blunted and shortene

[The morphology of endonasal cavernous tissue with special reference to muscular cushion formation. A light and transmission electron microscopy study].

Nasal "cavernous" tissue is widely accepted as a key structure for the tumefactive mechanism inside the nose; still there is no common understanding of the structural composition of this special tissue. In the present paper the authors demonstrate the results of their histological and transmission electronmicroscopic findings in human nasal "cavernous" tissue, especially referring to the structural and ultra-structural pattern of the so-called muscular pads or "cushion". Serial sections revealed that these structures occur at the transition of communicating vessels; their muscular coat shows a

Scanning and transmission electron microscopy of the histopathological impact of Macrogyrodactylus clarii (Monogenea: Gyrodactylidae) on the gills of catfish, Clarias gariepinus.

Scanning and transmission electron microscopy (TEM) were used to study the histopathological effects of the monogenean Macrogyrodactylus clarii Gussev, 1961 on the gills of the catfish Clarias gariepinus (Burchell). Suction generated during attachment created 'footprints' on host surfaces in which the host tissues were elevated above the general gill surface. 'Footprints' were bordered by four clefts caused by the muscular flaps on the anterior, lateral and posterior margins of the haptor. The hamuli points penetrate the gill tissue but no evidence was found for the insertion of the marginal h

Interactions between DNA and a Pyrene-Labeled Surfactant Probed by Pyrene Excimer Formation, Transmission Electron Microscopy, and Dynamic Light Scattering.

The interactions between calf thymus DNA and a pyrene-labeled gemini surfactant termed PyO-3-12 were investigated by using dynamic light scattering (DLS), transmission electron microscopy (TEM), and pyrene excimer formation (PEF) between an excited and a ground-state pyrene. PyO-3-12 was prepared with two dimethylammonium bromide headgroups linked with a propyl spacer, with one ammonium bearing a dodecyl tail and the other bearing a 1-pyrenemethoxyhexyl pendent. The size and electrostatic properties of the colloidal species were characterized by DLS, and TEM was used to describe the overall di

Evaluation of platelet dense granules by transmission electron microscopy in healthy pediatric donors and pediatric patients with suspected platelet disorders.

BACKGROUND: Whole mount (WM) platelet transmission electron microscopy (PTEM) is a standard method for evaluating platelet dense granules (DG). However, because of the lack of a pediatric/adolescent mean DG/platelet reference range (RR), the prevalence of platelet DG deficiency in patients with suspected inherited platelet disorders (IPD) is mostly unknown in our practice. This study aimed to establish a local pediatric/adolescent RR for mean DG/platelet in a cohort of pediatric patients with clinical suspicion of IPD, which was used to determine the prevalence and clinical and laboratory feat

Detection of Bartonella henselae in feline erythrocytes in Egypt by using Giemsa staining, transmission electron microscopy, and polymerase chain reaction.

Bartonella species (Bartonella spp.) have gained recognition as a significant human pathogen, implicated in a wide range of diseases. Among these, Bartonella henselae infection has been extensively studied for its primary occurrence in cats and its role in the development of cat-scratch disease in humans. While light microscopy and transmission electron microscopy (TEM) have traditionally played crucial roles in identifying causative agents of infectious diseases, including Bartonella spp., the accuracy of these methods in identifying Bartonella spp. remains undefined. Therefore, this study ai

Liquid chromatography-based metallomics and transmission electron microscopy reveal gold nanoparticle surface treatment with vicinal dithiols to abolish protein corona formation.

AIMS: While gold nanoparticles (AuNPs) should allow the delivery of surface immobilized drugs to intended target tissues via the bloodstream, their interactions with plasma proteins may induce their aggregation and thus impede an effective delivery of chemotherapeutic agents to target tissues. The deliberate surface treatment of AuNPs has the potential to overcome this inherent limitation. METHODS: To probe interactions between surface treated AuNPs in blood plasma, we employed a size-exclusion chromatography (SEC)-based metallomics tool together with transmission electron microscopy (TEM).

SARS-CoV2 vertical transmission with adverse effects on the newborn revealed through integrated immunohistochemical, electron microscopy and molecular analyses of Placenta.

BACKGROUND: . The occurrence of trans-placental transmission of severe acute respiratory syndrome corona virus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) infection remains highly debated. Placental positivity for SARS-CoV-2 has been reported in selected cases, but infection or virus-associated disease of fetal tissues or newborns remains to be demonstrated. METHODS: We screened for SARS-CoV-2 spike (S) protein expression placentas from 101 women who delivered between February 7 and May 15, 2020, including 15 tested positive for SARS-CoV-2 RNA, 34 tested negative, and 52 not evaluated as they did not meet testing criteri

Assessment of DNA damage by 53PB1 and pKu70 detection in peripheral blood lymphocytes by immunofluorescence and high-resolution transmission electron microscopy.

PURPOSE: 53BP1 foci detection in peripheral blood lymphocytes (PBLs) by immunofluorescence microscopy (IFM) is a sensitive and quantifiable DNA double-strand break (DSB) marker. In addition, high-resolution transmission electron microscopy (TEM) with immunogold labeling of 53BP1 and DSB-bound phosphorylated Ku70 (pKu70) can be used to determine the progression of the DNA repair process. To establish this TEM method in the PBLs of patients with cancer, we analyzed and characterized whether different modes of irradiation influence the formation of DSBs, and whether accompanying chemotherapy infl

An experimental chronic obstructive sialadenitis model by partial ligation of the submandibular duct characterised by sialography, histology, and transmission electron microscopy.

Extensive investigation into the mechanism of chronic obstructive sialadenitis (COS) calls for a reliable model that mimics the onset and progression of the disease. Duct obstruction is closely correlated with COS, and partial duct obstruction is usually observed in COS. Partial ligation of ducts or vessels is a valid treatment to mimic pathological processes in certain animal studies. In this study, we developed a novel animal model of COS by incomplete ligation of Wharton's duct and clarified the corresponding morphological alterations in the submandibular gland. Partial ligation of Wharton'

Interaction between lymphokine activated killer cells generated in the presence of cisplatin/FK-565 and tumor cells: transmission electron microscopy analysis.

Lymphokine activated killer (LAK) cells generated in the presence of cisplatin/FK-565 along with interleukin-2 (IL-2) showed enhanced binding to tumor cells as compared with LAK cells generated in the presence of IL-2 alone. The LAK cells showed a reorientation of cellular organelles in the presence of tumor cells. LAK-tumor conjugate pairs showed vesicle-like structures in the extracellular pockets. The number of vesicles in the extracellular pockets was found to be increased in the case of LAK cells generated in the presence of cisplatin/FK-565 along with IL-2. The closer interaction between

Characteristics and interactions of Helicobacter pylori and H. pylori-infected human gastroduodenal epithelium in peptic ulcer: a transmission electron microscopy study.

Helicobacter pylori (H. pylori) has been presumed to be an initiating factor in a previously recognized chain of events, starting with active chronic gastritis and leading to atrophy of the mucosal membrane, intestinal metaplasia, dysplasia (intraepithelial neoplasia), and finally culminating in gastric carcinoma. Adherence of H. pylori to the gastroduodenal epithelium is believed to be an important step in the induction of active chronic inflammation of the mucosal layer. However, it is not clear how the pathogen chronically colonizes the gastroduodenal epithelium. In this study, 30 biopsy sp
