Pleomorphic adenoma originally called the mixed tumour is a neoplasm commonly involving major salivary glands. The spectrum of malignancy in pleomorphic adenoma comprises three distinct entities - Carcinoma ex pleomorphic adenoma, carcinosarcoma and benign metastasising pleomorphic adenoma. Carcinoma ex pleomorphic adenoma consists of pleomorphic adenoma with a malignant epithelial component. Occasionally, carcinomas ex pleomorphic adenoma develops metastasis. Here we are reporting here a case of benign pleomorphic adenoma arising in parotid gland which turned into malignancy after four years.

Adenosquamous carcinoma (ASC), a rare variant of squamous cell carcinoma, is an aggressive and highly infiltrating epithelial neoplasm, which has a distinct histomorphological features comprising simultaneous areas of squamous cell carcinoma and adenocarcinoma. Some researchers consider it as a controversial neoplasm, as it may arise from the ducts of the minor salivary gland or from the overlying surface epithelium. In the head-and-neck region, commonly affected sites include paranasal sinuses, larynx and oral cavity. Areas of occurrence in the oral cavity include palate, tonsillar pillar are

INTRODUCTION: Bone metastases from epithelial ovarian carcinoma are rare, usually discovered postmortem. The survival of these patients is poor. Furthermore, only two cases of endometrioid ovarian carcinoma with metastasis to the skeletal structures have been described in the literature.
CASE REPORT: We present the case of a 58-year-old woman with a lytic metastasis in the left iliac ramus from endometrioid ovarian carcinoma that occurred seven years after the initial diagnosis.
DISCUSSION: A review of the literature since 1966 on bone metastasis of ovarian cancer is also presented. In patie

A 68-year old man presented with erythemato-telangiectatic nodules on his right lumbar fossa, associated with right-sciatica. A skin biopsy was performed. Microscopic examination showed tumour embolism in the lumen of the dermal vessels. Immunohistochemical staining and electron microscopy confirmed the diagnosis of angiosarcoma metastasis. An arteriography showed the primary neoplasm as a polypoid tumour with anterior pedicle, narrowing the aortic lumen below the renal arteries. The patient died a few months later, with multiple metastasis in the lower half on his body. To our knowledge, this

Malignant pleural mesothelioma (MPM) is a rare neoplasm of the serosal membranes. MPM usually manifests as local invasion, rarely with distant haematogenous metastases in different organs. Few cases of tongue metastasis have been documented. Here, we report the case of a 68-year-old man diagnosed with malignant pleural epithelioid mesothelioma together with a simultaneous tongue lesion, which was found to be metastatic malignant mesothelioma. Tongue metastasis from MPM is rare and the oral symptoms it causes could be an early sign of clinical manifestation. For patients with oral symptoms and

Twenty-six cases with leptomeningeal metastasis were analyzed and Gd-DTPA enhanced MR imaging was found to be the most useful tool for making the diagnosis. The important manifestations in order of frequency were: 1) leptomeningeal enhancement; 2) ependymal enhancement; 3) plaque, nodule or mass in the subarachnoid space or ventricles; 4) nerve root thickening; and 5) ventricular dilatation not related to the obstruction of the primary neoplasm. A review of the literature has shown that intracranial leptomeningeal metastasis from spinal cord astrocytoma are very rare. In our series, 3 cases wi

Pure mucinous carcinoma of the male breast is an extremely uncommon malignant breast neoplasm and usually occurs at advanced age. It is characterized by a higher degree of mucus production, a more benign behavior, a lower incidence of metastatic nodal involvement, and a subsequent higher survival rate. We describe such a case of a 59-year-old male, who displayed a gradually growing retroareolar tumor of the right breast. The tumor was well demarcated and had a soft consistency with a gelatinous appearance. Based on the preoperative clinical identification of right axillary lymphadenopathy, the

Primary adrenal angiosarcoma is a rare, malignant, vascular neoplasm. These neoplasms typically arise in middle age (median age of 60 years) and are more common in males (65%) than in females. Although rare, these neoplasms are aggressive with a propensity for local recurrence and metastasis and a median survival of 18 months. We present 2 cases of primary adrenal angiosarcoma with synchronous, ipsilateral adrenocortical adenomas. We review the cases of adrenal angiosarcoma reported since 1988 and discuss their clinical and histopathologic characteristics.

AIMS: Uterine tumour resembling ovarian sex cord tumour (UTROSCT) is an uncommon mesenchymal neoplasm of uncertain histogenesis. While it is considered a neoplasm of uncertain but low malignant potential, there is limited evidence for this as there are no large studies with follow-up. We aimed to determine the clinical behaviour of this uncommon neoplasm and investigate clinicopathological parameters which predict behaviour.
METHODS AND RESULTS: From a series of 34 cases of UTROSCT, mainly from consultation practice, we obtained follow-up information which was obtained by contacting referring

BACKGROUND: Lymph node analysis is essential for staging gastrointestinal (GI) neoplasms. Intraoperative lymphatic mapping and sentinel lymphadenectomy were originally described for melanoma but have not yet been investigated for most GI neoplasms.
HYPOTHESES: (1) Lymphatic mapping and sentinel lymphadenectomy is feasible in GI neoplasms, (2) the sentinel node (SN) status reflects the regional node status, and (3) focused analysis of the SN improves staging accuracy.
DESIGN: Prospective patient series.
PATIENTS AND METHODS: Lymphatic mapping was performed in 65 patients with GI neoplasms by

Papillary cystadenocarcinoma of the salivary glands is an exceptionally rare neoplasm. Despite advances in immunohistochemistry and molecular studies, the distinction between malignant and benign cystadenomatous tumors of salivary glands remains poorly defined. This case report details the pathological characteristics, highlighting the diagnostic difficulties and underscoring the importance of precise differentiation to guide effective clinical interventions. We report the case of a 58-year-old woman who was initially diagnosed with papillary cystadenoma of a minor salivary gland. Two years l

BACKGROUND: Carcinoma of the ampulla of Vater is an uncommon ampullo-pancreatobiliary neoplasm, and the most common histological type is adenocarcinoma with a tubular growth pattern. Invasive micropapillary carcinoma (IMPC) is an aggressive variant of adenocarcinoma in several organs that is associated with lymph node metastasis and poor prognosis. IMPC was first described as a histological subtype of breast cancer; however, IMPC of the ampulla of Vater is extremely rare, with only three articles reported in the English literature.
CASE SUMMARY: We have reported a case of IMPC of the ampulla

Adrenal metastases usually occur in prostate cancer patients with widespread bone and visceral disease. Autopsy studies have shown that adrenal metastases may be found in up to 23% of these patients. However, the finding of an isolated adrenal metastasis without the involvement of other organs in a patient with prostate cancer is exceedingly rare. Thus, it may cause a diagnostic dilemma on FNA cytology. We report a patient with a history of prostate cancer, status post radiation, and hormonal therapy 4 years before, who presented with a new, single adrenal mass on abdominal imaging studies. Th

Uveal metastasis is the most common intraocular malignancy. Lung cancer is one of the most common malignancies that metastasize to uvea. Iris involvement is rarely reported. Here we report a case of iris metastasis from pulmonary adenocarcinoma that was treated with photodynamic therapy (PDT). A 65-year-old Chinese man was referred to our hospital for iris white neoplasm and blurred vision for 2 weeks in his right eye. His accepted pulmonary lobectomy, radiotherapy and chemotherapy for pulmonary adenocarcinoma 1year ago and liver metastases were found 2 months earlier. At presentation, anterio

Cutaneous metastases from solid tumors are uncommon events in clinical practice. Most of the time, the patient already has the diagnosis of a malignant neoplasm when the cutaneous metastasis is detected. However, in up to one-third of cases, cutaneous metastasis is identified before the primary tumor. Therefore, its identification may be essential for starting treatment, although it is usually indicative of poor prognosis. The diagnosis will depend on clinical, histopathological, and immunohistochemical analysis. Sometimes the identification of the primary site is difficult; however, a thoroug

Malignant mesothelioma of pleura is a locally aggressive rare neoplasm of mesothelial cells, which produces distant metastasis in advanced stages of its course. It is exceptional for patients to present with metastasis prior to the detection of primary tumor in the pleura. Here, we report a case of malignant mesothelioma of pleura in a 65-year-old quarry worker where the initial diagnosis was offered by fine needle aspiration of an enlarged supraclavicular lymph node. Subsequent pleural fine needle aspiration cytology (FNAC), tumor biopsy, and immunohistochemical analysis confirmed the diagnos

Spinal seeding of primary malignant intracranial tumors via CSF is common. However, this is rare in low-grade glial tumors. Cranial leptomeningeal metastasis of primary spinal cord low-grade gliomas at diagnosis or relapse is extremely rare. Leptomeningeal metastasis of spinal cord low-grade tumors may mimic tuberculous meningitis in children. A patient with primary spinal cord low-grade neoplasm mimicked tuberculous meningitis is presented. The patient successfully treated with chemoradiotherapy. At the end of 19-month follow-up, diffuse leptomeningeal infiltration and a dural mass compatible

Basal cell carcinoma (BCC) is a malignant neoplasm of the skin that originates from the cells of the basal layer of the epidermis and is the most common skin cancer worldwide, accounting for more than 75% of all nonmelanoma skin cancers. About 4 million BCCs are diagnosed annually worldwide. Despite being the most common skin tumor, metastasis is rare and occurs in 0.0028%-0.55% of cases. In this case report, we present a rare case of giant basal cell carcinoma with metastasis to the subcutaneous fat in a 69-year-old woman.
