Germ cell tumors occur most frequently in the gonad but can rarely occur in extragonadal locations, usually in or near the midline. The most common extragonadal site of primary germ cell tumors is the anterior mediastinum. The most common histologic type of mediastinal germ cell tumor is mature teratoma, which is typically asymptomatic and incidentally discovered. Radiographically, these tumors appear as rounded, often lobulated masses; calcification may be seen. Imaging studies of mature teratoma frequently demonstrate cystic components and may demonstrate fat or calcium. Malignant germ cell

We report a case of an extragonadal germ cell tumor from the retrovesical region associated with Klinefelter's syndrome. The patient presented with symptoms of macroscopic hematuria and micturition pain. An x-ray and digital examination were suspicious for prostatic carcinoma. However, needle biopsy of the tumor revealed embryonal cell carcinoma. Serum alpha-fetoprotein was 10,700 ng. per ml. Preoperatively, combined cytotoxic chemotherapy was administered and the antineoplastic effect was excellent. Serum alpha-fetoprotein rapidly returned to the normal range and the tumor volume decreased. A

The data on 62 patients with germinal testicular tumors seen at King Faisal Specialist Hospital and Research Centre between January 1977 and June 1983 were analyzed to determine the epidemiologic and clinical characteristics of the disease in Saudi Arabia. Fifty-seven patients were Saudis. The geographic distribution of Saudi patients seemed to coincide with population concentrations. Testicular seminomas (TS) and non-seminomatous testicular tumors (NSTT) comprised 50% each. The mean age was 41 and 27.8 years for TS and NSTT, respectively. Fifteen patients had cryptorchidism of the involved te

Malignant mixed tumor of the liver seen in a 4 year old girl was reported. Progressive hepatomegaly, jaundice, anemia, and extraordinarily high level of serum total cholesterol were noted clinically. Postmortem examination had disclosed that most part of the tumor was occupied by fibrosarcomatous cell growth admixed with rhabdomyosarcomatous component. In addition, carcinomatous component was distinctly recognized in a restricted part of the liver tumor. Previous reports on malignant mixed tumor of the liver were reviewed and it was emphasized that the histological diagnosis of malignant hepat

A composite malignant tumour arising in the breast of an elderly woman is described. The cystic tumour containing areas of squamous metaplasia, bone formation, adenocarcinoma, and osteosarcoma was surrounded by the typical changes of mammary dysplasia (fibroadenosis). The classification and acceptance of such tumours is highly debatable. There is no one acceptable classification of breast sarcomas and hence the prognosis of such neoplasms, particularly those containing heterologous tissues, is poorly defined. Evidence is presented in support of such composite tumours as being definite entities

Testicular tumours are a diverse group of tumours, but most cases fall into the category of testicular germ cell tumours (TGCT). TGCTs are classified as either derived from a germ cell neoplasia in situ (GCNIS) or unrelated to GCNIS. Based on the development, molecular alterations and onset of development, TGCTs can further be divided into three groups. Type I TGCTs include prepubertal-type teratoma and yolk-sac tumour. Type II TGCTs are the only GCNIS-related tumours in this classification and include seminomas, embryonal carcinoma, choriocarcinoma, yolk-sac tumour and teratoma of postpuberta

Tumors of the pineal region are rare neoplasms accounting for only about 1% of all central nervous system tumors. This chapter details the histopathological features and molecular alterations of these tumors. The two most common types are germ cell tumors (GCTs) and pineal parenchymal tumors (PPTs). PPTs are a group of neoplasms that exhibit varying degrees of pinealocytic differentiation and diverse prognoses. They comprise well-differentiated low-grade pineocytomas, pineal parenchymal tumors of intermediate differentiation (PPTIDs), and poorly differentiated high-grade pineoblastomas (PBs).

OBJECTIVES: To systematically review and analyse the association of cannabis use with the risk of testicular germ cell tumour (TGCT), as studies have implicated an association between cannabis exposure and an increased risk of developing TGCT.
PATIENTS AND METHODS: The PubMed, Web of Science, and Cochrane Library databases were searched on November 2024 to identify eligible studies according to the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses statement and the Cochrane Handbook for Systematic Reviews of Interventions. Studies were selected that compared males (P: populat

BACKGROUND: Extragonadal germ cell tumors originating from the prostate are exceptionally rare. To the best of our knowledge, there have been no reported cases of mixed germ cell tumors in individuals with 46 XX disorder of sex development. In this study, we conducted a comprehensive analysis using whole genome sequencing to investigate the clinicopathological and molecular genetic characteristics of a submitted case, with the objective of elucidating its underlying pathogenesis.
CASE PRESENTATION: A 40-year-old male patient was diagnosed with a combination of 46, XX disorder of sex developme

OBJECTIVE: The aim was to evaluate the causes of death for patients with testicular cancer (TC), and calculate mortality risks for each cause.
METHODS: Patients diagnosed between 2000 and 2017 were identified. Main causes of death including TC, second malignant tumor (SMT) and non-tumor diseases, and the standardized mortality rate (SMR) of each cause were analyzed.
RESULTS: 27,143 patients with localized TC were included, and 1171 of them died including 215 TC deaths, 236 SMT deaths, and 720 non-tumor deaths. Main SMT deaths were cancer from lung and bronchus, colon and rectum, etc. Main no

OBJECTIVE: To study the impact of testicular cancer composite stage and histology with semen parameters in preorchiectomy cryopreservation samples.
METHODS: We retrospectively collected semen parameter data, composite stage, and tumor histology for patients who cryopreserved sperm prior to orchiectomy for testicular cancer between 2006 and 2018. Stage I was considered localized disease, and Stages II and III were considered metastatic disease. The World Health Organization (WHO) 2010 semen parameter criteria was used to characterize lab values as normal or subnormal. Categorical and continuou

Background and Objectives: The relationship between male infertility (MI) and testicular cancer (TC) is bilateral. On one hand, it is well-established that patients diagnosed with TC have a high risk of pre- and post-treatment infertility. On the other hand, the risk of developing TC in male infertile patients is not clearly defined. The objective of this review is to analyze the histopathological, etiological, and epidemiological associations between MI and the risk of developing testicular cancer. This review aims to provide further insights and offer a guide for assessing the risk factors f

We present a case of a woman in her 20s, with a prior history of paediatric sacrococcygeal germ cell tumour, presenting with a 6-month history of perianal pain. An MRI pelvis revealed a heterogeneous soft tissue mass causing destruction of the sacrococcygeal bone. A staging CT demonstrated metastatic deposits in the lungs and hypodense foci in the liver suspicious of metastatic disease. Her alpha-fetoprotein levels were raised and a CT-guided biopsy was in keeping with recurrent germ cell tumour. She was referred to a national centre for the treatment of germ cell tumours in adults and was rec

Germ cell tumor of the central nervous system (CNS) is an infrequent entity consisting of only 0.2%-1.7% of all primary CNS tumors. The pineal gland is the commonest location of CNS germinoma. Traditionally, radiotherapy alone has been used to treat localized pineal germinoma, which has delivered a very high cure rate. Spinal drop metastases from pineal germinoma can develop after a long time from diagnosis and primary treatment. Currently, craniospinal irradiation is the standard of care in metastatic pineal germinoma with spinal drop metastases along with systemic chemotherapy. Very few case

BACKGROUND: Undifferentiated embryonal sarcoma of the liver (UESL) is a rare liver tumor accounting for 6-13% of primary liver tumors. Accurate preoperative diagnosis is difficult, with a rather high misdiagnosis rate. Herein, we reported a very large UESL treated with anatomical resection. Our case is amongst the largest pediatric UESLs in the literature.
CASE PRESENTATION: Herein, we report a 13-year-old girl presenting with right upper quadrant abdominal pain, postprandial vomiting, and abdominal distention, in which radiographic imaging demonstrated a huge UESL (28 × 20 × 12 cm). The pati
