Effects of oleic acid supplementation on ileal fatty acid digestibility, intestinal barrier function, and cecal microbiota in Pekin ducks fed a high-fat diet.

This study aimed to investigate the effects of a diet supplemented with oleic acid (OA) on apparent ileal digestibility (AID) of fatty acids, intestinal barrier function, and the cecal microbiota as well as its metabolites in Pekin ducks fed a high-fat diet (HFD). A total of 240 male ducks (14 d of age) were randomly assigned to three groups: control group (Con), high-fat diet (HFD), and the HFD plus 0.50% OA (HFD_OA). The experimental duration was 28 days. Results demonstrated that HFD significantly decreased the AID of ether extract and palmitic acid (P < 0.05), whereas OA supplementation ef

Do oleic acid-enriched oil formulations improve health outcomes in metabolic disorders? A GRADE-assessed meta-analysis.

BACKGROUND: Oleic acid, a monounsaturated fatty acid (MUFA), exhibits beneficial properties in healthy subjects. However, it remains unclear whether these favorable effects extend to metabolically unhealthy individuals. Therefore, this study aimed to investigate the effect of an oleic acid-enriched oil formula on metabolic health outcomes. METHODS: Our comprehensive systematic search was conducted in the following databases: PubMed, Scopus, Web of Science, and Google Scholar based on PRISMA guideline. The random-effect model was used to pool standardized mean differences (SMD). RESULTS: Fift

Oleic Acid-Mediated Double Emulsification Enables Enhanced Aqueous Stability and Localized Photothermal Heating of Liquid Metal Droplets.

Gallium-based liquid metals (LMs) have emerged as promising photothermal agents owing to their broadband optical absorption, high photothermal conversion capability, and intrinsic fluidity. However, their practical implementation in aqueous and biological environments remains severely limited by water-induced oxidation and hydrolysis, which progressively deteriorate their structural and photothermal stability. Here, we present a facile and potentially scalable double-emulsion strategy that physically isolates LM nanodroplets from water without requiring complex surface modification. By dispers

Effects of starch nanoparticle-stabilized oleic acid emulsions and warm storage on the structural properties and starch digestibility of cooked rice.

Cooked white rice has a high glycemic index, which is associated with an increased risk of metabolic disorders, including obesity and type 2 diabetes. This study investigated the potential of starch nanoparticle (SNP, 2%)-stabilized oleic acid (OA, 5%) emulsions to reduce starch digestibility through amylose-lipid interactions. Rice grains were soaked in OA or SNP-OA emulsions, cooked in a rice cooker, and subsequently stored at 70 °C for up to 2 days. OA droplets stabilized by SNPs were significantly smaller (6.90 μm) and more uniform than those without SNP stabilization (29.38 μm). Structura

Protective effects of butorphanol in oleic acid-endotoxin "two-hit" induced rat lung injury by suppression of inflammation and apoptosis.

Butorphanol is widely used as an anesthetic drug, whether butorphanol could reduce organ injury and protecting lung tissue is unknown. This study explored the effects of butorphanol on ALI and investigated its underlying mechanisms. We established a "two-hit" rat model and "two-hit" cell model to prove our hypothesis. Rats were divided into four groups [control, "two-hit" (OA + LPS), "two-hit" + butorphanol (4 mg/kg and 8 mg/kg) (OA + LPS + B1 and OA + LPS + B2)]. RPMVE cells were divided into four groups [control, "two-hit" (OA + LPS), "two-hit" + butorphanol (4 μM and 8 μM) (OA + LPS + 4 μM

Unraveling the Thermal Oxidation Products and Peroxidation Mechanisms of Different Chemical Structures of Lipids: An Example of Molecules Containing Oleic Acid.

Lipid structures affect lipid oxidation, causing differences in types and contents of volatiles and nonvolatiles in various foods. In this study, the oxidation differences of monoacylglycerol (MAG), triacylglycerol (TAG), phosphatidylethanolamine (PE), and phosphatidylcholine (PC) with oleoyl residues and oleic acid (FA) during thermal treatment were investigated. Volatiles and nonvolatiles were monitored by gas chromatography-mass spectrometry and ultrahigh-performance liquid chromatography-Q-Exactive HF-X Orbitrap Mass Spectrometer, respectively. The results showed that the structures of MAG

Sirtuin 1 is involved in oleic acid-induced calf hepatocyte steatosis via alterations in lipid metabolism-related proteins.

Sirtuin 1 (SIRT1), an NAD-dependent protein deacetylase, plays a central role in the control of lipid metabolism in nonruminants. However, the role of SIRT1 in hepatic lipid metabolism in dairy cows with fatty liver is not well known. Thus, we used isolated primary bovine hepatocytes to determine the role of SIRT1 in protecting cells against oleic acid (OA)-induced steatosis. Recombinant adenoviruses to overexpress (AD-GFP-SIRT1-E) or knockdown (AD-GFP-SIRT1-N) SIRT1 were used for transduction of hepatocytes. Calf hepatocytes isolated from five female calves (1 d old, 30 to 40 kg) were used to

Oleic Acid Vesicles as a new Approach for Transdermal Delivery of Econazole Nitrate: Development, Characterization, and In-vivo Evaluation in Wistar rats.

BACKGROUND: Cutaneous candidiasis is a deep-seated skin fungal infection that is most commonly observed in immunocompromised patients. This fungal infection is conventionally treated with various formulations like gels and creams which are having different side effects and least therapeutic efficacy. Hence, it becomes necessary to develop a novel carrier system for the treatment of this deep-seated skin fungal infection. Econazole nitrate is the most widely used antifungal for the treatment of cutaneous candidiasis, therefore, in present research work we developed and evaluated econazole nitra

Early postnatal oleic acid administration enhances synaptic development and cognitive abilities in the Ts65Dn mouse model of Down syndrome.

OBJECTIVES: The brains of individuals with Down syndrome (DS) present defects in neurogenesis and synaptogenesis during prenatal and early postnatal stages that are partially responsible for their cognitive disabilities. Because oleic and linolenic fatty acids enhance neurogenesis, synaptogenesis, and cognitive abilities in rodents and humans, in this study we evaluated the ability of these compounds to restore these altered phenotypes in the Ts65Dn (TS) mouse model of DS during early postnatal stages. METHODS: TS and euploid mice were treated with oleic or linolenic acid from PD3 to PD15, an

Mixed endothelin ET(A) and ET(B) antagonist bosentan inhibits oleic acid-induced lung plasma extravasation in mouse.

The possible participation of endogenous endothelins (ETs) in enhancement of plasma extravasation induced by oleic acid was assessed in mice. Oleic acid (0.5-2%/kg, i.v.) increased accumulation of Evans blue in lungs in dose-dependent fashion, with a clearcut peak at 1 h (lung Evans blue content: control 0.17 +/- 0.01; oleic acid 1%/kg 0.63 +/- 0.04 microg per 10 mg wet tissue). Pretreatment with the mixed endothelin-ET(A) and ET(B) (ET(A)/ET(B)) receptor antagonist bosentan (30 mg/kg, i.v., 30 min before oleic acid) markedly reduced lung Evans blue content (to 0.24 +/- 0.04), as did pretreatm

Development of an experimental model of an acute respiratory failure by intratracheal sea water infusion: a comparison with a conventional oleic acid induction.

An experimental model of acute respiratory failure (ARF) was successfully developed in dogs by endotracheal sea water infusion. Serial changes in blood gases and hemodynamics, and histological changes in the lungs after use of this method were compared with those of the conventional model induced by oleic acid, and the following results were observed. Blood gases deteriorated more rapidly after sea water than after oleic acid, while the changes caused by oleic acid progressed with time, and those caused by sea water did not. Not only systemic but also pulmonary hemodynamics were adversely infl

Dual effects of oleic acid on Ca2+ mobilization and protein phosphorylation in human platelets in presence or absence of platelet activating factor.

This laboratory demonstrated earlier that oleic acid inhibited platelet activating factor (PAF)-induced aggregation and serotonin release of rabbit platelets (M. Miwa, C. Hill, R. Kumar, J. Sugatani, M. S. Olson, and D. J. Hanahan, 1987, J. Biol. Chem. 262, 527-530). More recently, we reported that oleic acid caused a decrease in phosphatidylinositol-4-phosphate (PIP) and phosphatidylinositol-4,5-bisphosphate (PIP2), but did not affect the level of inositol-1,4,5-trisphosphate (IP3), in rabbit platelets (D. Nunez, J. Randon, C. Gandhi, A. Siafaka-Kapadai, M. S. Olson, and D. J. Hanahan, 1990,

Local and global function of the right ventricle in a canine model of pulmonary microembolism and oleic acid edema: influence of ventilation with PEEP.

Right ventricular (RV) dysfunction may occur due to increased RV afterload and, hence, might also contribute to the decrease in cardiac output following institution of PEEP in patients with adult respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS). To test this hypothesis, the authors examined the influence of PEEP on local and global RV function in 12 anesthetized dogs with experimental ARDS (eARDS) induced by pulmonary microembolization with glass beads and oleic acid. Local RV function was analyzed in the RV inflow tract (RVIT) and RV outflow tract (RVOT) by assessing both diastolic segment length, systol

Effects of toxin II from the scorpion Androctonus australis Hector on sodium current in neuroblastoma cells and their modulation by oleic acid.

The effects of toxin II (AaH II) isolated from the scorpion Androctonus australis Hector on sodium current in neuroblastoma X glioma NG 108-15 hybrid cells were analysed under patch clamp conditions in the whole cell configuration. AaH II (70 nM) induced a maintained sodium current, as well as increasing both fast and slow inactivation time constants and the amplitude of the peak current. This latter effect occurred via a shift of the activation-voltage curve towards negative voltage values by about 9 mV. Oleic acid (5 microM), which had no effect on INa under control conditions, decreased the

Activation of human neutrophils by oleic acid involves the production of reactive oxygen species and a rise in cytosolic calcium concentration: a comparison with N-6 polyunsaturated fatty acids.

BACKGROUND: There is a growing body of evidence showing that dietary constituents and lipids in particular, influence the function of the human immune system. However, although the beneficial effects of oleic acid (OA) are clear, its mechanism of action at the molecular level is poorly understood. AIMS: To evaluate neutrophil activation under the influence of OA and compare this with several n-6 PUFAs. METHODS: Two key aspects of neutrophil activation were investigated: oxygen radical (ROS) production and intracellular Ca(2+) signaling. RESULTS: OA and the n-6 PUFA arachidonic acid (AA) bot

Newly Isolated Kluyveromyces marxianus Strain Capable of Producing Oleic Acid-Rich Oil for Human Consumption from Whey.

Cheese whey is a widely available agri-food byproduct whose high organic load presents significant challenges for the dairy industry and environmental management. Its biovalorization into high-value, sustainable functional lipids is increasingly important given the environmental concerns associated with conventional vegetable oil production. This study examines the isolation, identification, and characterization of a wild-type yeast strain capable of synthesizing oleic acid-rich oil from cheese whey. Screening six different sources yielded thirteen microbial isolates capable of growing on whey

Harnessing oleic acid for facilitating topical delivery of lipid nanoparticle to the ocular posterior segment and improving anti-angiogenesis effect.

Fundus neovascularization is a leading cause of vision loss. Axitinib, a tyrosine kinase inhibitor, has significant antiangiogenic effects but suffers from extremely low aqueous solubility and faces multiple ocular barriers when topically instilled. Here, we incorporated oleic acid into a lipid nanoparticle for the topical ocular delivery of axitinib. Meanwhile, we systemically investigated the impact of oleic acid and its content on the performance of lipid nanoparticles in vitro, ex vivo, and in vivo. The lipid nanoparticle with 2% oleic acid achieved a 2125-fold increase in axitinib solubil
