Redirection of palatally ectopic maxillary canines: Case report and proposition of an interceptive sequential guideline.

The eruptive deviation of the permanent maxillary canine must be identified early, at the beginning of the second transitional period of the mixed dentition. Acting at this moment is fundamental for its spontaneous redirection and eruption. The aim of the paper is to present a case where the extraction of the deciduous canines was the choice for redirecting the maxillary permanent canines with eruptive palatal deviation, as well as to suggest a sequence of procedures for diagnosis and choice of treatment. The success of deciduous canine extraction in redirecting the ectopic permanent canines i

Respiratory disorders in paediatric age: orthodontic diagnosis and treatment in dysmetabolic obese children and allergic slim children.

AIM: Obesity and allergic susceptibility are worsening problems in the most industrialised countries. With different mechanisms, they both lead to a deterioration of children's life quality because they affect the respiratory system, leading to asthma and respiratory disorders such as mouth breathing and obstructive sleep apnoea. The latter are related to specific types of malocclusions that require an early diagnosis and specific multidisciplinary treatment. The purpose of this work is to show the characteristic signs and symptoms of these disorders in children of the two phenotypes (allergic

A new interceptive treatment of cases with missing maxillary lateral incisors. A preliminary report.

A new approach to achieve space closure in cases with missing maxillary lateral incisors is presented. The maxillary first primary molar is extracted just before the eruption of the first permanent molar to make mesial drifting into distal occlusion between the permanent molars possible, which is requested to compensate for the missing incisor. Prerequisites for the treatment and preliminary results are demonstrated.

À propos d'un cas de résorptions radiculaires sévères en orthodontie : quelle étiologie et quelle prise en charge?Orthodontics and root resorptions: a clinical case.

INTRODUCTION: Root resorptions are, with white spots, some of the inconveniences caused by orthodontic treatments. Although they are rare, they should not be ignored despite the many benefits gained by orthodontic treatment. Contrary to white spots, which are controllable by good dental hygiene, root resorptions can occur despite patient cooperation. Orthodontists should be aware of this phenomenon and make regular radiologic controls a priority for detection "before, during and after" treatment. MATERIAL AND METHOD: After literary references, the presentation of the case report will illustra

Etiology, Classification and Management of Ectopic Eruption of Permanent First Molars.

Ectopic eruption of a permanent tooth involves abnormal resorption of a portion or all of the adjacent primary tooth. Among the most commonly ectopically erupted teeth are the permanent first molars. Ectopically erupting molars may require intervention to allow for full eruption, or they may spontaneously self-correct and erupt into occlusion. Decisions regarding the necessity of intervention, its ideal timing, and intervention type are multifactorial. Treatment options for the ectopically erupting permanent first molar include the elastomeric separator, brass wire, pre-fabricated clip separat

Diagnosis and prevention of maxillary cuspid impaction.

Early diagnoses and prevention of maxillary cuspid impactions can save much time when treating patients orthodontically. Effective recognition and interception requires initial diagnosis at the dental age of about eight years. When a cuspid bulge is absent, diagnosis with oriented lateral and frontal radiographs is advocated and has been shown to aid in the positive recognition of lingually positioned unerupted maxillary cuspids at risk for impaction. Recommended treatment is early removal of maxillary deciduous cuspids and perhaps deciduous first premolars. Lateral and frontal radiographs sho

Early identification and management of mandibular canine ectopia.

Mandibular canine impaction and transmigration have serious consequences for the patient, as removal of the tooth or teeth in question is often the only solution. The loss of one or both mandibular canines complicates orthodontic treatment. Early warning signs of mandibular canine ectopia are explored in this paper as well as how to assess the potential for displacement, impaction and/or transmigration. This paper highlights the value of interceptive treatment once the early signs of an aberrant mandibular canine have been detected.

Evaluation of the posterior airway space following Biobloc therapy: geometric morphometrics.

The aim of this study was to evaluate changes in the posterior airway space in patients following Biobloc therapy, using geometric morphometrics. Pre- and post-treatment lateral cephalographs of 53 children (mean age, 12.9 +/- 1.5 years; mean treatment time, 21.3 +/- 6.2 months) were scanned and 27 landmarks encompassing the airway were digitized. Mean configurations were computed using Procrustes superimposition, followed by principal components analysis (PCA) and finite-element scaling analysis (FESA). Marked shape-changes were identified using PCA for the airway following treatment (p < 0.0

Rapid maxillary expansion assisted by mini-implants anchorage: A case report.

Rapid maxillary expansion (RME) is an orthopaedic treatment frequently used to correct transversal problems in the maxilla. The aim of this case report was to evaluate the transversal skeletal and dental changes in a 12-year-old male patient with maxillary atresia and bilateral posterior crossbite who had been treated with rapid maxillary expansion assisted by mini-implant anchorage. The results showed an increase of 6.2mm in the maxillary width, an increase of 6mm, 8mm and 9mm in the fossa-fossa measurements between first premolars, second premolars and first molars respectively, also there w

Correction of Supernumerary Tooth-Associated Anterior Crossbite in Mixed Dentition Using a 2 × 4 Appliance.

Anterior crossbite is a common tooth alignment discrepancy seen among the paediatric population especially during the mixed dentition stage. There are many causes of anterior crossbite, and the presence of supernumerary tooth/teeth is one of them. Early interceptive intervention is essential to avoid the need for more complex orthodontic treatment later. This case report describes the management of a 10-year-old child who presented with anterior crossbite involving Teeth 21 and 31, leading to gingival recession of Tooth 31. The crossbite malocclusion was associated with a supernumerary tooth i
