[Mesenteric panniculitis. Aspects in x-ray computed tomography and MRI].

We report one case of mesenteric panniculitis. This rare and poorly-known disease is characterized by a non specific inflammatory process involving adipose tissue of the mesentery. The new imaging techniques (CT and MRI) may be helpful for the diagnosis of this disease and allow avoiding laparotomy. However histological proof remains necessary and can be given by guided needle biopsy.

[Mesenteric panniculitis. Apropos a case and a review of the literature].

The case of a 35 year old female who had paraneoplasic syndrome during a period of one year, together with abdominal pain, is presented. Owing to the aforementioned, she was operated under the suspicion of lymphoma. The intraoperatory diagnosis was of retroperitoneal fibrosis. Physical examination showed important ascites and cachexia. Mild anemia and high sedimentation rate were found in blood test. A barium intestinal X-ray showed loop distention and a CT scan showed ascites and mesenteric thickening which were confirmed by a laparotomy. The histological study showed substantial cholagen and

Diagnostic Yield of Ultrasound-Guided Omental Biopsy for Omental Thickening Using Histopathology As the Reference Standard.

Background Histopathological evaluation is vital in distinguishing between benign and malignant lesions. Assessment of the different patterns of peritoneal lesions on CT scans may help to differentiate inflammation and malignancy. It utilizes various imaging modalities, among them, ultrasound-guided percutaneous biopsies are minimally invasive, have low complications, and are cost-effective. Objective To assess different disease patterns by ultrasound-guided omental biopsy in patients with solitary peritoneal thickening found on CT scans, using histopathology as the reference standard. Study d

A 67-Year-Old Woman With Abdominal Pain and Dyspnea.

A 67-year-old woman presented to her primary physician with a year of periumbilical abdominal discomfort with diarrhea, bloating, and unintentional weight loss. While undergoing workup for the abdominal pain, she presented to the ED with dyspnea that worsened over a few weeks. She had no associated chest pain, lower extremity edema, fevers, or chills, but endorsed orthopnea. The patient's medical history included hypothyroidism and diabetes mellitus. Her family history was significant for coronary disease in her father and hypertension in her mother. She had no recent travel; she is a nonsmoke

Lesser Omental Panniculitis.

A 44-year-old woman presented to our hospital with abdominal pain. Abdominal ultrasonography and computed tomography showed a mass-like change in the lesser omentum between the liver and stomach. Esophagogastroduodenoscopy revealed a submucosal tumor-like change, and endoscopic ultrasonography (EUS) revealed that the mass was located outside of the stomach wall. We performed EUS fine-needle aspiration and diagnosed panniculitis of the lesser omentum. Based on these findings, we suggest that mass-like lesions in the lesser omentum and submucosal tumor-like changes in the anterior wall on the le

A case report of mesenteric panniculitis.

A 65-year-old man had intermittent abdominal pain for the previous 2 years. This pain suddenly became worse with a fever and elevated inflammatory markers. We took a while to diagnose the patient with mesenteric panniculitis (MP). Although imaging findings suggested MP, we needed to rule out other diseases. Choosing a treatment for the patient also took some time and we finally used glucocorticoid to cure the patient.

Sclerosing mesenteric panniculitis in a young patient : common cause of diagnostic dilemma and treatment refractoriness.

BACKGROUND: Sclerosing mesenteric panniculitis (SMP) is an idiopathic chronic fibroinflammatory disorder of the intra-abdominal fat. CASE PRESENTATION: Herin, we report a case of SMP, involving the omentum, mesentery and peri-colic fat in a 18 year old male, who presented with significant and recurrent abdominal distension for 4.5 years. Computed tomogram revealed ascites, with nodular and irregular omental thickening and foci of calcification. Non-specific radiological and histological features made an accurate diagnosis extremely difficult. After a thorough work up and exclusion of other di

Sclerosing mesenteritis presenting with complete small bowel obstruction, abdominal mass and hydronephrosis.

Sclerosing mesenteritis is an uncommon and poorly understood inflammatory condition of the bowel mesentery which can often be confused with neoplasia, Crohn's disease and other inflammatory conditions. We describe a case of complete small bowel obstruction and right sided hydronephrosis due to sclerosing mesenteritis.

[Mesenteric panniculitis with retroperitoneal involvement resolved after treatment with intravenous cyclophosphamide pulses].

Mesenteric panniculitis is an inflammatory process of the adipose tissue of the mesentery. It produces a thickening of the mesentery of the small bowel or colon and can occasionally involve the retroperitoneum. It is characterized by an infiltration of lipid-laden macrophages and associated with variable degrees of inflammation and fibrosis. Several treatments have been used, including colchicine, dapsone, corticosteroids associated or not with immunosuppressants, but there are no prospective controlled studies to define appropriate treatment: moreover, there are cases of regression without sp

Sclerosing mesenteritis, mesenteric panniculitis and mesenteric lipodystrophy: a single entity?

We reviewed 84 cases coded as mesenteric lipodystrophy (ML), mesenteric panniculitis (MP), or retractile mesenteritis and sclerosing mesenteritis (SM), grading fibrosis, inflammation, and fat necrosis, and evaluating clinical subgroups. There was no gender or racial predominance. Patient age range was 23-87 years (average 60). Patients most often presented with abdominal pain or a palpable mass. A history of trauma or surgery was present in four of 84 patients. The most common site of involvement was the small bowel mesentery as a single mass (58 of 84) with an average size of 10 cm, multiple

From the archives of the AFIP: benign fibrous tumors and tumorlike lesions of the mesentery: radiologic-pathologic correlation.

Mesenteric fibromatosis, sclerosing mesenteritis, inflammatory pseudotumor, and extrapleural solitary fibrous tumor constitute a loosely associated group of benign fibrous tumors and tumorlike lesions of the mesentery. These lesions are linked histologically by the presence of fibroblasts or fibrosis and anatomically by their location within the mesentery. Although rare, and distinctly different in pathogenesis and biologic behavior, these fibrous lesions have pathologic and radiologic features that overlap with one another and with more common neoplastic and nonneoplastic lesions of the mesen

CT and MR features of sclerosing mesenteritis mimicking a mesenteric metastasis from the carcinoid tumor.

Sclerosing mesenteritis is a rare and benign inflammatory entity characterized by fibrofatty thickening of the mesentery. To our knowledge, there are only a few reports on the features of sclerosing mesenteritis on magnetic resonance (MR) imaging and computed tomography (CT). In this present case, MR imaging demonstrated tissue characterization of fibrosis, and partial maximum intensity projection (MIP) and three-dimensional angiography images obtained using multislice CT clearly revealed the extent of the tumor and the vascular appearance affected by the mass. However, a mesenteric metastasis
