BACKGROUND: The average living age of the population is constantly increasing and so is the incidence and prevalence of aortic valve disease. Surgical aortic valve replacement (SAVR) is the current gold standard treatment. Nevertheless, the use of prosthetic valves in SAVR is associated with issues that impact patients' quality of life. Aortic valve neocuspidization (AV Neo) offers a means to solve this dilemma by minimizing foreign valve tissue. AV Neo can either be performed using glutaraldehyde-treated autologous pericardium (Ozaki procedure) or bovine pericardium (Batista procedure).

OBJECTIVE: The aim was to report mid-term performance of decellularized equine pericardium used for repair of various congenital heart defects in the pediatric population.
METHODS: A retrospective review of all patients undergoing patch implantation between 2016 - 2020 was performed. OBJECTIVES: We reviewed reoperations following mitral valve repair (MVR) that used glutaraldehyde-treated autologous pericardium for mitral regurgitation (MR) to analyse the durability and risk factors for reoperation.

A case of lethal pericardium-tamponade is reported as a consequence of excessive hydration in a 19-year-old woman. According to her own report, she took 8-10 tablets of Adumbran and Persumbran in drug form in an attempt to commit suicide. Neither clinical observation, the obduction, histological findings nor chemotoxicological analysis are capable of explaining a deadly poisoning by these tablets. This paper points to the necessity of most careful controls that are required even for adults in regard to the electrolytic and hydrological balances.
