We report the peculiar case of a parosteal osteosarcoma arising beneath the periosteum in a 12-year-old boy. He complained of difficulty in left knee flexion. Plain radiography showed a uniformly dense mineralized mass in the bone cortex and parosteal ossified nodules at the metaphysis and diaphysis of the left distal femur. Growing skull fractures (GSFs) are well-known but rare causes of pediatric head trauma. They generally occur several months after a head injury, and the main lesion is located under the periosteum. OBJECTIVE: No evidence exists about which biological approach is more reliable for creating non-union model. We investigated how to create a reproducible atrophic non-union model in a rat femur.
METHODS: We compared three groups: simple osteotomy (group A), partial periosteum cauterization (group B), and extensive periosteum and bone marrow resection (group C).

We successfully used autogenous periosteum to reinforce the weakened sclera of two patients with necrotizing scleritis. One of these patients previously had an onlay scleral graft made from homologous banked sclera, which had subsequently melted. Autogenous periosteum is suggested as an alternative to banked sclera for scleral reinforcement.

We used autogenous periosteum to reinforce scleral defects in two patients with necrotizing scleritis. This technique produced good anatomical results and maintained useful vision in each case. Autogenous periosteum offers advantages over other tissues as a tectonic graft for necrotizing scleritis, since it is easy to harvest and handle, it is strong and vascular, and is not subject to immunologic rejection.
