INTRODUCTION AND OBJECTIVES: Pilomatricoma is the second most common skin tumor in childhood and youth and it has a broad differential diagnosis. The main objective of the present study was to determine the incidence of pilomatricomas in our hospital and to analyze the following variables: patient age and sex, tumor site, symptoms, previous trauma, clinical diagnosis, associated diseases, number of cases of multiple tumors, ultrasound findings, anesthetic and surgical techniques, and postoperative complications.

Pilomatricoma is a common and benign skin tumor of childhood arising from the hair follicle matrix. It is an often misunderstood adnexal tumor, confused with other skin lesions. The most common sites of pilomatricome are the head and the neck. The aim of this study was to report a series of 22 cases with unusual forms collected in the dermatology department from January 2006 to May 2015. The study included 16 women and 6 men. OBJECTIVE: Color Doppler sonography is used to distinguish malignant from benign subcutaneous nodules because many malignant tumors show an increased number of vessels. But benign lesions, such as inflammatory epidermal cysts, pilomatricomas, palmoplantar fibromatoses show vascular flow signals. We analyze diagnostic factors for subcutaneous nodules on the basis of ultrasonographic appearance including color Doppler sonography.

Pilomatrical carcinoma is a rare tumor originating from skin appendages, usually occurring between the 5th and 7th decade of life. We present a case of an exceptionally young, 21-year-old patient with surprisingly rapid tumor progression and answer the question, what was the reason for such uncontrolled tumor growth. The main concern is the diagnostic challenge and a peculiar, one week race against time and tumor progression so that the least disfiguring surgery could be done.

PURPOSE: To describe the radiological characteristics of pilomatricomas on multi-detector computed tomography (MDCT) and magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), and to correlate the radiological findings and pathological features.
