OBJECTIVES: To compare procedural and early postoperative pain after endovenous laser ablation (EVLA), EVLA with concomitant phlebectomy, and cyanoacrylate closure (VenaSeal).
METHODS: Consecutive patients undergoing EVLA, EVLA with phlebectomy, or cyanoacrylate closure between January 2024 and January 2025 were included. Pain was assessed using a numerical rating scale (NRS, 0-10) immediately after the procedure and at telephone follow-up 10-14 days postoperatively. Multivariable linear regression was used to adjust for baseline differences between groups.
RESULTS: A total of 392 patients w

Burn patients often experience severe procedural pain throughout hospitalization, and poorly controlled pain is a significant predictor of long-term psychological adjustment post-injury. Virtual Reality (VR) presents a promising adjunctive approach to pharmacological analgesics by redirecting patients' attention away from painful stimuli using immersive, multidimensional environments. Recent technological advances have made VR more affordable, portable, and hands-free permitting the head-mounted display to be easily transported with minimal set up, particularly conducive to hospital environmen…

INTRODUCTION: Vasovagal syncope is a common reflex-mediated condition characterized by transient loss of consciousness due to autonomic imbalance resulting in hypotension and bradycardia. Although it is frequently encountered in response to pain or emotional stress, its occurrence during the perioperative period under regional anesthesia is relatively uncommon but potentially alarming.
CASE REPORT: We report the case of a 39-year-old female with no significant comorbidities who presented with pain, swelling, instability, and locking of the right knee for 1.5 months. Magnetic resonance imaging

OBJECTIVE: The objective of this review was to evaluate the effectiveness of technology-based interventions for relieving procedural pain among hospitalized neonates compared with other non-pharmacological interventions.
INTRODUCTION: Neonates who require hospital care often experience acute pain during medical procedures. The current best practice for relieving pain in neonates is the use of non-pharmacological interventions, such as oral solutions or intervention-based human touch. Technological solutions (eg, games, eHealth applications, mechanical vibrators) have become more commonplace i…

BACKGROUND: Joint, spinal and soft tissue injections are commonly performed by rheumatologists in their daily practice. Contrary to other procedures, e.g. performed in pediatric care, little is known about the frequency, the intensity and the management of procedural pain observed in osteo-articular injections in daily practice.
METHODS: This observational, prospective, national study was carried out among a French national representative database of primary rheumatologists to evaluate the prevalence and intensity of pain caused by intra-and peri-articular injections, synovial fluid aspiratio…

BACKGROUND AND OBJECTIVES: Paediatric patients undergoing treatment for acute lymphoblastic leukaemia (ALL) frequently experience significant pain and emotional distress related to procedures. While pharmacological management remains central, integrative non-pharmacological approaches such as art-based therapy (ABT) have shown promise in enhancing psychological well-being. The objective of the study is to assess the levels of self-reported procedural pain and distress among paediatric patients with ALL during the consolidation phase of treatment and to evaluate the effectiveness of a structure…

BACKGROUND: Very high-power short-duration (vHPSD) temperature-controlled radiofrequency ablation (vHPSD) may reduce ablation times and improve patient tolerability, permitting pulmonary vein (PV) isolation under mild conscious sedation. We evaluated of the anesthetic drugs use and patients' pain experience during vHPSD PV isolation.
METHODS: Fifty-eight patients, with paroxysmal and persistent atrial fibrillation (AF), treated with QDot Micro catheter and vHPSD (90 w for 4 s) (vHPSD group), were compared with the last 33 patients treated with a surround flow contact force-sensing catheter gu

Neonatal painful procedures causes acute pain and trigger long-term changes in nociceptive processing and anxiety behavior, highlighting the need for adequate analgesia during this critical time. Spinal serotonergic receptors 5-HT1a and 5-HT3 play an important role in modulating incoming nociceptive signals in neonates. The current study aims to attenuate acute and long-term hypersensitivity associated with neonatal procedural pain using ondansetron (a 5-HT3 antagonist) and buspirone (a 5-HT1a agonist) in a well-established rat model of repetitive needle pricking. Sprague-Dawley rat pups of bo…

BACKGROUND/IMPORTANCE: Cleft palate surgery is associated with significant postoperative pain. Effective pain control can decrease stress and agitation in children undergoing cleft palate surgery and improve surgical outcomes. However, limited evidence often results in inadequate pain control after cleft palate surgery.
OBJECTIVES: The aim of this review was to evaluate the available evidence and to develop recommendations for optimal pain management after cleft palate surgery using procedure-specific postoperative pain management (PROSPECT) methodology.

INTRODUCTION: Music medicine has shown promise in reducing anxiety and pain during medical procedures, but its effects during interventional pain procedures without sedation remain unexplored. Although previous studies have examined music medicine with procedural sedation, to our knowledge, no published research has yet explored music medicine during procedures without sedation in the chronic pain population, underscoring the novelty of our investigation. This study aimed to evaluate the impact of music medicine on pain intensity, unpleasantness, and anxiety during lumbar medial branch blocks

In-office gynecologic procedures, such as intrauterine device insertion, endometrial biopsy, hysteroscopy, intrauterine imaging, and cervical biopsy, among others, are common procedures experienced by many patients. There is an urgent need for health care professionals to have a better understanding of pain-management options and to not underestimate the pain experienced by patients and for patients to have more autonomy over pain-control options during in-office procedures. The way pain is understood and managed by health care professionals is also affected by systemic racism and bias of how

Pain arising from the thoracic region has been reported to be potentially as debilitating as cervical or lumbar back pain, and may stem from a vast number of spinal sources, including zygapophysial, costovertebral and costotransverse joints, intervertebral discs, ligaments, fascia, muscles, and nerve roots. Over the last two decades, the use of ultrasound in interventional spinal procedures has been rapidly evolving, due to the ultrasound capabilities of visualizing soft tissues, including muscle layers, pleura, nerves, and blood vessels, allowing for real-time needle tracking, while also redu
