Resorcinolic lipid contents and homologue compositions in extracts isolated from soft winter, soft spring and hard (durum) wheat grains were evaluated by both instrumental and chromatography means. Resorcinol concentrations determined in wheat were diverse and varied in samples harvested within two consecutive vegetative years, whereas their homologue profiles were found to be rather invariable. Extraordinarily homogeneous, freestanding titania-loaded carbon spherogels can be obtained using Ti(acac)2(OiPr)2 in the polystyrene sphere templated resorcinol-formaldehyde gelation. Thereby, a distinct, crystalline titania layer is achieved inside every hollow sphere building unit. These hybrid carbon spherogels allow capitalizing on carbon's electrical conductivity and the lithium-ion intercalation capacity of titania.

Multi walled carbon nanotubes (MWCNTs) were decorated by activated carbon nanoparticles of resorcinol-formaldehyde aerogels. Carbon nanospheres and MWCNTs were mixed by equal mass ratios for different durations. The products were characterized by Raman spectroscopy, thermal gravimetric analysis, nanoscanning electron microscopy, transmission electron microscopy and x-ray diffraction. The results indicated that a significant decoration with carbon nanoparticles occurred onto the MWCNTs.

An enol-assisted regioselective arene C-H alkylation with maleimides is developed under redox-neutral ruthenium(II) catalysis, offering a wide variety of valuable 3-aryl succinimides including amino acid embedded frameworks in good to excellent yields. The products were also aromatized to produce synthetically useful resorcinol-based biaryls. Mechanistic studies support an organometallic pathway with a reversible C-H metalation step for this reaction.

Aortic dissection complicating percutaneous transluminal coronary angioplasty is rare. We report the case of a 45-year-old man who after right coronary artery angioplasty with stenting, dissected that vessel to involve the aorta to the bifurcation. Surgical repair with Gelatin-Resorcinol-Formaldehyde (GRF) glue as opposed to prosthetic graft replacement of the ascending aorta was successful. The use of GRF glue is effective in the surgical treatment of aortic dissection after coronary angioplasty.
