BACKGROUND: EPH (erythropoietin-producing hepatocellular) receptors are clinically relevant targets in several malignancies. This report describes the effects of GLPG1790, a new potent pan-EPH inhibitor, in human embryonal rhabdomyosarcoma (ERMS) cell lines.
METHODS: EPH-A2 and Ephrin-A1 mRNA expression was quantified by real-time PCR in 14 ERMS tumour samples and in normal skeletal muscle (NSM). GLPG1790 effects were tested in RD and TE671 cell lines, two in vitro models of ERMS, by performing flow cytometry analysis, Western blotting and immunofluorescence experiments. RNA interfering exper

PURPOSE: Children with paratesticular rhabdomyosarcoma have a favorable prognosis. Surgical treatment problems include inadequate primary transscrotal approaches, incomplete tumor resections and the need for secondary hemiscrotectomy. We evaluated the need for hemiscrotectomy regarding local relapse and outcome.
MATERIALS AND METHODS: A total of 173 patients with a diagnosis of paratesticular rhabdomyosarcoma were enrolled in the Cooperative Soft Tissue Sarcoma Studies between 1986 and 2008. Of the patients 17 were excluded due to an incomplete data set and alveolar histology. Thus, a total o

The probability of rhabdomyosarcoma occurring in the cervix is less than 0.5% and may be associated with a pathogenic dicer 1, ribonuclease III (DICER1) gene variation. Tumour-induced hypercoagulability and high levels of cancer antigen (CA) 125 are risk factors for cerebral venous sinus thrombosis (CVST). In addition, although nonpuerperal uterine inversion is very rare and is usually caused by leiomyomas from the uterus, large cervical masses can also be the cause. This case report describes a 24-year-old woman with uterine inversion caused by an embryonic cervical rhabdomyosarcoma that pres

BACKGROUND: Embryonal rhabdomyosarcoma (ERMS) of the uterine cervix is rare, but the population affected is mostly underage females. The scope of surgery has now evolved from extensive to limited, and organ-preserving surgery combined with chemotherapy is recommended to preserve the patient's fertility. However, reports of birth outcomes are rare.
CASE: A minor woman with cervical ERMS who underwent only an outpatient biopsy of the lesion had no residual lesion on subsequent multipoint cervical biopsy and refused radical surgery or cervical conization, after which the patient received a noncl

BACKGROUND: Primary peritoneal rhabdomyosarcoma is an exceedingly rare soft tissue malignancy in the pediatric population. Little is known about iatrogenic tumor cell peritoneal seeding after primary surgical resection of peritoneal rhabdomyosarcoma, and there is limited guidance on optimal management of such cases. Its aggressive nature, coupled with widespread peritoneal tumor seeding, contributes to the poor outcome of such cases.

INTRODUCTION: Rhabdomyosarcoma has known as a highly malignant soft tissue sarcoma. It has been the most common soft tissue sarcoma in childhood, accounting for about 3 to 4 % of all cases of childhood cancer. Rhabdomyosarcoma was rare in adults, accounting for 3% of all soft-tissue sarcomas. embryonal rhabdomyosarcoma of female genital tract including uterine cervix in an adult was rare.
CASE PRESENTATION: This study has reported a 33-year-old woman presented with abnormal vaginal discharge. Gynecologic examination revealed a cervical mass with grape- like feature protruding into vagina with

OBJECTIVE: Rhabdomyosarcoma of the female reproductive system is rare, and as a result, management strategies are unclear. In this study, we categorized rhabdomyosarcoma based on location (cervical, uterine, vulvovaginal) and analyzed prognostic factors to guide individualized treatment.
METHODS: Data from the Surveillance, Epidemiology, and End Results database (2000-2021) were used to identify patients with cervical, uterine, and vulvovaginal rhabdomyosarcoma. Multivariate Cox regression identified prognostic factors, and Kaplan-Meier analysis assessed overall survival and disease-specific

BACKGROUND: Rhabdomyosarcoma of the urachus is extremely rare, and only two cases have been reported. Cytologic, histologic, immunochemical and electron microscopic findings in embryonal rhabdomyosarcoma of the urachus are presented.
CASE: Embryonal rhabdomyosarcoma of the urachus developed in a 2-year-old boy. Imprint smears prepared prior to a histologic examination for a rapid report contained many malignant cells isolated or in clusters in a myxoid background. They were uniformly small, with round to oval nuclei and scant cytoplasm, and immunohistochemically positive for desmin and alpha-

Nonpuerperal uterine inversion is a rare clinical condition that involves prolapse of the uterine fundus into the uterine cavity and vaginal vault and possibly passed the introitus. The majority of these cases commonly involve benign tumors such as leiomyoma. However, another common cause of nonpuerperal uterine inversion is due to malignancies such as sarcomas. Rhabdomyosarcoma is a rare and aggressive malignancy of soft tissue cells that are common in children and rare in adults. One subtype called embryonal rhabdomyosarcoma is exceptionally rare. Therefore, report of embryonal rhabdomyosarc

OBJECTIVES: Pediatric embryonal heterologous rhabdomyosarcoma of the cervix is a rare tumor.
METHODS: We present an interesting clinico-pathologic situation of two sisters presenting with pediatric embryonal heterologous rhabdomyosarcoma of the cervix.
RESULTS: Pediatric embryonal heterologous rhabdomyosarcomas of the cervix are relatively uncommon. After a Pubmed search from 1952 to present, to our knowledge, this is the only report involving sisters presenting with this disease. Treatment has been extrapolated from collaborative groups such as Intergroup Rhabdomyosarcoma Study (IRS) Group

Neurofibromatosis-1 has a known increased risk of malignancy with rhabdomyosarcoma occurring in up to 6% of patients. Here we report on an 8-year-old male with a history of Neurofibromatosis-1 and previously treated stage 3, group III bladder/prostate embryonal rhabdomyosarcoma (diagnosed at 18 months old) who presented with penile swelling concerning for priapism. Imaging and subsequent biopsy confirmed embryonal rhabdomyosarcoma of the penile corporal bodies. Penile rhabdomyosarcoma is exceedingly rare, with less than 15 case reports in the literature. Our patient received chemoradiation per

The association between antenatal diagnostic X-ray exposure and risk of rhabdomyosarcoma in children was assessed in a national case-control study of 319 rhabdomyosarcoma cases and 319 matched controls. Data were collected by telephone interviews of subjects' parents. Overall, an odds ratio (OR) of 1.9 [95% confidence interval (CI), 1.1-3.4] was found for any X-ray examination of the mother during pregnancy. Risk was greatest for X-ray exposure during the first trimester (OR, 5.7; 95% CI, 1.2-27.8) and was also increased for the third trimester (OR, 2.0; 95% CI, 0.9-4.6), whereas second trimes

Rhabdomyosarcoma (RMS) is a malignant mesenchymal tumor arising from the embryonal muscle cells (rhabdomyoblasts), and is the most common soft tissue sarcoma in children and young adults accounting for 4-6% of all malignancies in this age group. Though rare overall, embryonal rhabdomyosarcoma is the most common malignancy arising in the pediatric female genitourinary tract with sarcoma botryoides being the most common variant of the tumor. In young and adolescent individuals, the cervix and uterus are affected; whereas in infants, vaginal lesions are more common. Imaging plays a crucial role n

Paratesticular embryonal rhabdomyosarcoma is a rare malignancy developed from a mesenchymal tissue of spermatic cord, testicular components. Spindle cell rhabdomyosarcoma (SCR) is a variant of embryonal rhabdomyosarcoma affecting the paratesticular region of adult patients and is even rarer. Given the limited guidelines available to manage SCR and the rarity of reported cases, our report aims to discuss a new case of this entity in a 66-years old Moroccan patient. Paratesticular SCR is a very rare tumor and requires attention from urologists to consider this entity as differential diagnosis wh

Rhabdomyosarcoma, a common soft tissue sarcoma in children, is rarely reported. The head and neck are the most common sites of occurrence. A case of embryonal rhabdomyosarcoma of the nasopharynx is presented. The patient, a five-year-old boy, presented with a two-monthly history of epistaxis. Ear-Nose-Throat examination revealed a mass at the hard palate. Head and neck MRI showed a nasopharyngeal mass with invasion to the skull base, and intracranial extention. Histological examination of the mass revealed embryonal rhabdomyosarcoma. A combination chemotherapy and intrathecal medication was ad

Cytogenetic and restriction fragment length polymorphism (RFLP) analyses were performed on a mediastinal germ cell tumor comprising distinct teratoma and embryonal rhabdomyosarcoma components in a 31-year-old male and a hepatoblastoma in a 2 month-old male child. Clonal relationship between the teratoma and rhabdomyosarcoma of the germ cell tumor was established by the presence in both of i(12p), the characteristic marker of germ cell tumors. Both the rhabdomyosarcoma component of the mediastinal germ cell tumor and the hepatoblastoma exhibited rearrangements of 2q. These data suggest that mal

A tumor of the tongue with features consistent with the diagnosis of fetal cellular rhabdomyoma was seen in an 18-month-old infant. The tumor recurred 10 and 22 months after initial resection. The histologic condition of the first recurrence was similar to the original tumor except for some increased nuclear irregularities and mitotic activity. No adjunctive therapy was administered initially or after the first recurrence. The second recurrence showed mixed embryonal/alveolar rhabdomyosarcoma. This case represented a unique model of a highly differentiated striated muscle tumor converting to a

Spindle cell rhabdomyosarcoma is a rare variant of embryonal rhabdomyosarcoma that affects young males and most commonly involves the paratesticular region. We report a case of paratesticular spindle cell rhabdomyosarcoma in a 14-year-old boy, who presented with a painless scrotal mass. Left inguinal orchidectomy was performed. Histopathological and immunohistochemical examination of the mass revealed spindle cell rhabdomyosarcoma of the paratesticular region.

Embryonal Rhabdomyosarcoma is a malignant mesenchymal proliferation of immature skeletal muscle and may arise in children in the orbit, middle ear, nasal cavity, paranasal sinuses, or nasopharynx. Clinical diagnosis may be difficult in a subset of patients who have no significant deformities or irregularities upon visual inspection of the oropharynx. Rhabdomyosarcoma in this setting may be mistaken for a more common underlying etiology such as an upper respiratory infection. We report a case of a 7-year-old male with embryonal variant rhabdomyosarcoma previously misdiagnosed by 3 different phy
