Cervical extraosseous Ewing's sarcoma: A case report.

Ewing's sarcoma itself is an uncommon disease. But its occurrence as a primary extraosseous cervical lesion is extremely rare. Considering the rarity of the manifestation of this disease in the form of a soft tissue mass in the neck, and the occurrence with nonspecific initial symptoms, this study introduces a patient whose only initial symptom was neck pain. The patient was a 23-year-old man who had been suffering from neck pain for ten days. Due to neck pain and 1 episode of urinary incontinence, the patient was hospitalized and examined. In the first 6 hours after admission, the patient exp

A rare case of Ewing's sarcoma of the maxillary sinus.

Ewing's sarcoma is generally an aggressive, poorly differentiated bone and soft tissue tumor affecting children and young adults, it accounts for 4%-6% of all primary bone tumors and primary facial locations occur in only 1%-4% of all cases, primarily in the mandible and calvaria. Involvement of the paranasal sinuses is rare. Here we report the case of an 11-year-old girl with no medical, surgical, or traumatic history, who presented for 1 month and progressive evolution of swelling of the left cheek, associated with pain, nasal obstruction, rhinorrhea, and a slight weight loss not quantified.

The Ewing's sarcoma of cervical spine-a rare occurrence.

INTRODUCTION: Ewing's sarcoma is a Primary Neuroectodermal Tumour (PNET) commonly affecting appendicular skeleton. The involvement of axial skeleton is very rare and that too of cervical spine is rarest. We present a case of Ewing's sarcoma involving cervical spine managed surgically, and its outcome. CASE PRESENTATION: A 26-year-old male presented with 3-month history of neck pain and progressive motor weakness for 1 week. After clinical evaluation of sign and symptoms, MRI of cervical spine revealed a posterior neck mass over C2, C3 and C4. Because of mass effect and spinal cord compression

Primary Ewing's Sarcoma of the Spine: About a Case.

Ewing's sarcoma is a primary malignant bone tumor affecting individuals in the second decade of life. Primary sarcomas of the spine are rare and the occurrence of primary Ewing's sarcoma in the spine is very rare. There are 2 types of Ewing's sarcoma of the spine, Ewing's sarcoma of the sacral spine which is very aggressive with a poor prognosis and Ewing's sarcoma of the non-sacral spine which is an extremely rare occurrence. The patient may have a neurological deficit when the tumor extends into the spinal canal, causing compression of the spinal cord. Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) is ver

Primary renal Ewing's sarcoma in an adult: an enigma.

OBJECTIVES: Extraskeletal Ewing's sarcoma is a rarity, with a renal primary in an adult, being even rarer. There is no consensus on the optimal imaging modality, as well as best therapeutic option, making them an enigma for clinicians. CASE PRESENTATION: We report the case of a 34-year-old lady, a known case of invasive lobular carcinoma of the left breast (ER,PR positive, Her2neu negative), having completed treatment in 2017, wherein, on an ultrasound evaluation for left flank pain, was incidentally found to have a left renal mass. A CT scan corroborated with the ultrasound, with an addition

Primary intracranial Ewing's sarcoma with unusual features.

Pediatric primary "small round blue cell" tumors in the CNS represent several entities, some more common than others. Ewing sarcoma/peripheral primitive neuroectodermal tumor (ES/pPNET) is rare and must be distinguished from other tumors such as medulloblastoma [1, 2], atypical rhabdoid/teratoid tumor, ependymomal tumors, metastatic sarcomas, hematologic malignancies, and other mimics. Although therapy for ES/pPNET is effective, it brings severe side effects, including cardiac toxicity, making correct recognition important [3]. As small blue cell tumors look similar, diagnosis often depends on

Is time of the essence? Delayed diagnosis of Ewing's sarcoma.

Rarely in modern medicine are we able to observe the natural history of a patient with a sarcoma. This unusual case provides that opportunity. A CT scan was performed on the leg of a 15-year-old boy with a tender soft tissue mass on the lateral aspect of his left calf. Despite showing a lesion consistent with a sarcoma, neither the patient nor his family was informed. Almost a year and a half later, the patient returned and was diagnosed with Ewing's sarcoma. A staging work up showed no metastatic disease. After undergoing chemotherapy and a complete surgical resection of the tumour, the patie

Extra-skeletal Ewing's sarcoma of the submandibular gland.

Extra-skeletal Ewing's sarcoma (EES) is an uncommon malignancy, especially in the head and neck region that may arise in various extra-osseous tissues. We report a 22-year-old male with an EES of the submandibular gland, which to the best of our knowledge, has not been described previously. The patient who underwent combined treatment with surgical resection and chemo-irradiation was disease free for 22 months but succumbed to multi-organ metastases 14 months later. This case highlights the combined diagnostic role of immunohistochemical, cytogenetic and radiological evaluation of EES. EES is

Pathologic fracture as a complication in the treatment of Ewing's sarcoma.

The purpose of the current study was to define the outcome of patients with Ewing's sarcoma who sustained a fracture either at initial presentation or subsequent to multimodal treatment, and to identify parameters that may influence the treatment of these patients. The age of the 21 males and 14 females who sustained a fracture during the treatment for Ewing's sarcoma averaged 15 years (range, 4-30 years) at diagnosis. Fourteen patients presented with a pathologic fracture, whereas 21 patients had a fracture develop subsequent to the initial treatment at a mean of 4 years (range, 1-19 years).

Ewing's sarcoma in a patient with congenital optic atrophy.

PURPOSE: The authors report Ewing's sarcoma in a patient with congenital optic atrophy. Congenital optic atrophy is an autosomal dominant disorder with variable expression. It manifests itself within the first decade of life and is accompanied by changes in visual acuity. This condition has not been known to cause a predisposition toward malignancy. PATIENT AND METHODS: In this article, a 16-year-old girl with dominant optic atrophy and Ewing's sarcoma is described. RESULTS: After tumor resection, the patient was successfully treated for Ewing's sarcoma with chemotherapy and radiation therap

Extraskeletal Ewing's sarcoma presenting with pulmonary embolism.

Small round cell tumours with the morphologic characteristics of Ewing's sarcoma arise rarely in soft tissues of the extremities, retroperitoneum, chest and orbit. Patients usually present with symptoms arising from the swelling at the primary site. We report on a patient with a retroperitoneal extraskeletal Ewing's sarcoma who presented with massive tumour embolism to the pulmonary vasculature. To our knowledge, this is the first report of extraskeletal Ewing's sarcoma presenting with pulmonary tumour embolism.

Primary skeletal Ewing's sarcoma in Down syndrome.

Primary skeletal Ewing's sarcoma that occurred in two teenage patients with Down syndrome are reported. Cytogenetic analysis of one of these tumors showed the 11;22 translocation characteristic of Ewing's sarcoma as well as other complex karyotypic changes. The possible role of constitutional trisomy 21 in development of these sarcomas is discussed.

Fine structural comparison of Ewing's sarcoma with neuroblastoma.

Two cases of Ewing's sarcoma and two neuroblastoma, rosette forming and round cell type, were studied electron microscopically and their fine structures were compared. The neoplastic cells of Ewing's sarcoma were characterized by aggregated glycogen particles in the cytoplasm. They had pseudopod-like cytoplasmic processes having tight junctions, which never contained microtubules or mitochondria. Ewing's sarcoma cells exhibited several stages of cell maturation and some mature cells possessed a large amount of smooth and rough endoplasmic reticulum, large Golgi complexes and numerous phagosome

The Role of STAG2, CDKN2A, and TP53 Genes in Ewing Sarcoma: A Report of a Rare Case of Primary Ewing Sarcoma of the Kidney With Favorable Outcome.

BACKGROUND: Primary renal Ewing sarcoma (EWS) is a rare but aggressive pediatric malignancy with poor outcomes and limited knowledge of its behavior and biology. The use of molecular markers as prognostic factors and local control strategies with surgical resection and radiation is not well-described for renal EWS. OBSERVATION: We document a case of stage IV renal EWS with 4.5 years of durable remission. CONCLUSION: We hypothesize the favorable outcome may be associated with the lack of specific genomic signatures (STAG2, CDKN2A, and TP53) and the use of upfront surgical resection followed b

Ewing sarcoma of bone in infants and toddlers. A clinicopathologic report from the Intergroup Ewing's Study.

BACKGROUND: Nineteen patients with Ewing sarcoma of bone, each younger than 3 years of age at the time of initial presentation, are reported. These children represent an unusually young age group for documented Ewing sarcoma and represent 2.6% of all patients registered in the Intergroup Ewing's Sarcoma Study (IESS). METHODS: The diagnosis was made on combined histologic, clinical, and radiographic grounds and was supported by immunohistochemistry in nine patients and electron microscopic study in eight patients. Immunohistochemical studies showed no staining against neuro-specific enolase, c
