We report the case of a 76-year-old woman who presented with asymptomatic extensive erythematous. Firm plaques were noted over the right cheek. Complete blood count was normal, as was a peripheral smear. An excision biopsy taken from the cheek showed infiltration of the dermis and hypodermis with atypical cells which were strongly positive for human leukocyte antigen (HLA-DR) and lysozyme and were moderately myeloperoxidase (MPO) enzyme. The results of immunohistochemical staining for CD34, CD117, CD3, CD4, CD8, CD20, CD23, CD56, and ALK-1 were negative. Bone marrow analysis indicated myelodys

BACKGROUND: To evaluate clinicopathological features, radiotherapeutic parameters, and their associations with responses to radiotherapy (RT) in patients with myeloid sarcoma (MS).
METHODS: We reviewed 20 patients receiving RT for MS lesions (in 43 RT courses) and analyzed the patients' clinicopathologic features and radiotherapeutic parameters, and their associations with complete responses (CR) to RT using Fisher's exact test and univariate logistic regression analysis. Generalized Estimating Equation was used to analyze all 43 irradiated lesions and account for the correlations in RT respo

Myeloid sarcoma (MS) is a rare, extramedullary malignant tumor composed of immature myeloid precursor cells and myeloblast. Most MSs occur in the subperiosteal region of the bone, with the skull, sternum, ribs, and proximal portions of the long bones being the common sites of involvement. It is thought that the MS tumor originates in the bone marrow, and traverses the Haversian canals to reach the subperiosteum. Various reports have also described the involvement of the liver, spleen, brain, heart, pharynx, uterus, vagina, skin, kidney, and other soft tissues in the formation of the tumor.

Extramedullary relapse of acute myeloid leukaemia may occur in sites such as the central nervous system, testes, and skin. Presentations in the female genital tract are uncommon and usually asymptomatic. In contrast, symptomatic uterine myeloid sarcoma is very rare. Treatment of this is generally unsuccessful, but is improved when systemic therapies are used. We study a case of a uterine relapse of acute myeloid leukaemia presenting as vaginal bleeding and successfully managed by local irradiation. The mechanism of preferential infiltration of uterine tissue requires further study.

The first case of acute promyelocytic leukemia presenting as a solitary testicular mass (myeloid sarcoma) that relapsed in the contralateral testicle is described. The neoplastic cells strongly expressed chloroacetate esterase, myeloperoxidase, CD33, CD43, and weakly, CD117. The presence of many azurophil granules and Auer rods was detected by electron microscopy. Translocation (15;17)(q22;q21.1) was revealed by cytogenetics and was verified by fluorescence in situ hybridization. Contralateral testicle is a favorite site for recurrence in a subset of testicular myeloid sarcomas. Subclassificat

Myeloid sarcomas, also called granulocytic sarcomas or chloromas, are rare extramedullary tumours of immature myeloid cells, most often associated with acute myeloid leukaemia (AML). Spinal involvement is particularly uncommon and typically manifests with neurological symptoms due to nerve compression. We report a 58-year-old male with right lumbar pain radiating to the foot and intermittent paraesthesia. MRI revealed an extramedullary spinal mass compressing the right L5 nerve root and infiltrating the L5 vertebral body, with confirming the diagnosis of AML. PET-CT and follow-up MRI demonstra

PURPOSE: Myeloid sarcoma (MS) is defined as a tumorous mass of myeloblasts or immature myeloid cells involving an extramedullary anatomic site. MS occurs in 3 to 8% of patients with acute myeloid leukemia. The overwhelming majority of MS occurs in the skin, bones, and gastrointestinal tract; intraoral MS (IMS) is extremely rare.
METHODS: We describe a case of MS of the mandibular gingiva in a patient with acute myeloid leukemia that was in remission. We also present a review of the English and Japanese literature with a special focus on the management and prognosis of intraoral MS.
RESULTS:

Since November 2008, an 80-year-old man had been administered hydroxyurea and aspirin for the treatment of essential thrombocythemia (ET). In January 2012, his white blood cell count was markedly elevated, and he was treated with busulfan and cytarabine. In October 2012, he was hospitalized because of fever and general malaise, and a central venous port was placed in the right anterior chest owing to difficulty obtaining peripheral vascular access. Approximately 2 weeks after port placement, a subcutaneous mass was observed near the port. The patient died in November 2012 owing to exacerbation

Myeloid sarcoma (MS) represents a unique clinical presentation of acute myeloid leukemia (AML). This report describes a case of MS in a 66-year-old man who presented with dysphagia, nausea, vomiting, anorexia, and fatigue. Generalized lymphadenopathy was noted on physical exam and confirmed by CT scans which also showed diffuse esophageal wall thickening. Axillary lymph node biopsy was positive for MS. Bone marrow biopsy confirmed AML with 88% blasts. The patient received induction chemotherapy with decitabine and venetoclax and was planned for four cycles of treatment over three months while

INTRODUCTION: Intracranial myeloid sarcoma is a rare extramedullary presentation of acute myeloid leukemia (AML). It can involve the meninges and ependyma presenting as extra-axial mass lesion. Rarely, it can also invade the brain parenchyma. It is commonly seen in children. It is usually misdiagnosed due to its close resemblance to other intracranial tumors (meningioma, metastasis, Ewing's sarcomas, and lymphoma). These are underdiagnosed if they precede the diagnosis of leukemia.
CASE REPORT: A 7-year-old boy with isolated intracranial myeloid sarcoma who presented with raised intracranial

Isolated cutaneous myeloid sarcoma (icMS) and aleukemic leukemia cutis (ALC) are cutaneous extramedullary manifestations of leukemia in which leukemic cells infiltrate the skin before they can be identified either in the peripheral blood or in the bone marrow. We report the case of a 67-year-old patient who presented with a rapidly developing cutaneous tumor and scaly, erythematous- squamous plaques. Isolated cutaneous myeloid sarcoma was diagnosed, which rapidly progressed to terminal-stage acute myeloid leukemia (AML). To highlight the disease characteristics of the adult-onset icMS and ALC

Myeloid sarcoma (MS) is an extramedullary collection of immature myeloid cells that can commonly occur with acute myeloid leukemia (AML). While head and neck presentations are not unheard of, there have been few published pediatric cases of external auditory canal MS. Here, we report a case of a 14-year-old male who presented with MS masquerading as bilateral acute otitis externa. To the best of our knowledge, this is the first reported case of a bilateral presentation leading to a new diagnosis of AML. A literature review of head and neck presentations of MS is included.

Myeloid sarcoma (MS) is a rare extramedullary tumor composed of immature myeloid cells that is most associated with acute myeloid leukemia (AML), whereas isolated bilateral breast involvement without bone marrow disease is exceptionally uncommon. We report the case of a 38-year-old woman who presented with bilateral breast masses, both classified as BI-RADS 5 on imaging. Ultrasound-guided core needle biopsies of both breast lesions established the diagnosis of myeloid sarcoma, with immunohistochemical positivity for MPO, CD34, CD56, and CD117. Peripheral blood and bone marrow examinations show

Extramedullary involvement of acute myeloid leukemia (AML), aka myeloid sarcoma, is a rare phenomenon in acute megakaryoblastic leukemia with RBM15:: MRTFA(MKL1) fusion, which might mimic non-hematologic malignancies. A 7-month-old infant presented with leukocytosis, hepatosplenomegaly, multiple lymphadenopathies, and a solid mass in the right thigh. Initially, the patient was diagnosed with a malignant vascular tumor regarding the expression of vascular markers from the biopsy of the right thigh lesion that was performed after the inconclusive bone marrow biopsy. The second bone marrow biopsy
