A new screening technique for neonatal jaundice is proposed exploiting the yellow discoloration in the sclera. It involves taking digital photographs of newborn infants' eyes (n = 110) and processing the pixel colour values of the sclera to predict the total serum bilirubin (TSB) levels. This technique has linear and rank correlation coefficients of 0.75 and 0.72 (both p<0.01) with the measured TSB. The mean difference ( ± SD) is 0.00 ± 41.60 µmol/l. PURPOSE: To measure the deformation of the porcine optic nerve head (ONH) and peripapillary sclera (PPS) in response to intraocular pressure (IOP) elevation.
METHODS: High-frequency ultrasound was used to image the ONH and PPS of 12 porcine eyes during ex vivo inflation testing from 5 to 30 mm Hg. We aimed to describe congenital keratoglobus with blue sclera in two siblings with overlapping Marshall/Stickler phenotype. Two sisters (ages four and six) with bilateral high astigmatism were evaluated by slit-lamp microscopy. Corneal topography and pachymetry maps were also obtained. Twelve eyes of 12 patients with refractory glaucoma were treated with internal sclerostomy using laser ablation of dyed sclera. The technique involves iontophoretic impregnation of the sclera at the limbal region with 1% methylene blue and subsequent delivery of a pulsed dye laser beam to the stained area through a goniolens.
