Effectiveness of Self-concept Management of Patients with Depression in Diabetic Ulcer.

BACKGROUND: This study explores the management of self-concept in improving the quality of life of diabetic ulcer patients. Low confidence in the quality of life is a factor causing patients with long-term diabetes to believe they cannot be cured properly. Ulcers result from diabetes mellitus complications due to the nervous system and blood vessel damage. Patients with diabetic ulcers experience depression and feel acute stress when the disease has been categorized as a chronic condition. METHODS: This study uses quantitative methods with a cross-sectional study design approach. The data col

U.S. Abortion Care Providers' Perspectives on Self-Managed Abortion.

State-level restrictions on abortion access may prompt greater numbers of people to self-manage their abortion. The few studies exploring perspectives of providers towards self-managed abortion are focused on physicians and advanced practice clinicians. Little is known about the wider spectrum of abortion care providers who encounter self-managed abortion in their clinic-based work. To gain a deeper understanding of this issue and inform future care delivery, we conducted in-depth interviews with 46 individuals working in a range of positions in 46 abortion clinics across 29 states. Our interp

Options for Teens with No Options: A Self-Managed Second Trimester Abortion.

BACKGROUND: Several states have deemed abortions as nonessential services, effectively calling for a halt to abortion care during the COVID-19 pandemic. In response, women might elect for self-managed abortions by obtaining abortion medications online. CASE: A 15-year-old girl presented with abdominal cramping and vaginal discharge after taking misoprostol obtained from an online retailer for a self-managed abortion in her second trimester during the COVID-19 pandemic. Her exam showed products of conception protruding from the vagina. The patient was emergently evaluated for an incomplete and

Self-management and independence guidelines for the care of people with spina bifida.

Self-management and independence behaviors are associated with improved health conditions common to spina bifida such as skin integrity and bowel and bladder management. While most children with spina bifida ultimately achieve basic self-care behaviors, (e.g., dressing appropriately, planning activities with peers, or cooking pre-planned meals), they often lag 2-5 years behind their typically-developing peers in these activities [1]. Valid and reliable condition-specific assessments of self-management and independence are critical to optimizing outcomes for this population. Partnerships among …

The use of self-management strategies for problem gambling: a scoping review.

BACKGROUND: Problem gambling (PG) is a serious public health concern that disproportionately affects people experiencing poverty, homelessness, and multimorbidity including mental health and substance use concerns. Little research has focused on self-help and self-management in gambling recovery, despite evidence that a substantial number of people do not seek formal treatment. This study explored the literature on PG self-management strategies. Self-management was defined as the capacity to manage symptoms, the intervention, health consequences and altered lifestyle that accompanies a chronic…

Development of a Self-Management App for People with Spinal Cord Injury.

With decreasing inpatient rehabilitation lengths of stay, there may be a greater risk of spinal cord injury (SCI) populations being discharged into the community without the self-management skills needed to prevent secondary complications. Recent advancements in mobile health has made mobile apps a feasible method of delivering population-based, self-management interventions to address SCI-specific secondary complications. The objective of this study is to describe stakeholder perspectives on the development of a functional mobile app to facilitate self-management skills needed to prevent seco…
