Response of skin temperature, blood ammonia and lactate during incremental exercise until exhaustion in elite athletes.

The study aimed to evaluate the lower limb skin temperature (Tsk) and blood concentrations of lactate (LA) and ammonia (NH3) during exercise and recovery. Eleven elite sprint athletes (25 ± 3.4 yrs) and 11 elite endurance athletes (24.45 ± 5.4 yrs) performed an incremental running test until exhaustion. Body composition was estimated using the DXA method. Thermograms of the anterior and posterior surfaces of the lower limbs were recorded at rest, before each test stage (every 3 min, starting from 10 km h-1 and increasing by 2 km h-1), and in the 5th, 10th, 15th, 20th, and 30th minute of recove…

Significance of measured elevation of skin temperature induced by calcitonin gene-related peptide in anaesthetized rats.

To assess whether peripheral changes related to skin temperature rise were induced by ovarian hormone deficiency, we investigated the effects of anaesthesia on calcitonin gene-related peptide (CGRP)- or luteinizing hormone-releasing hormone (LH-RH)-induced elevation of skin temperature in female rats. CGRP was used as an inducer of peripherally-mediated elevation of skin temperature, whereas LH-RH was used as an inducer of centrally-mediated elevation of skin temperature. Intravenous (i.v.) but not intracerebroventricular injection of CGRP (10 microg kg(-1)) or intracerebroventricular but not …

[Newly designed skin temperature monitoring system for microvascular anastomosis--an experimental and clinical study (author's transl)].

Blood circulation must be carefully evaluated following the microvascular anastomosis, such replantation of the digits and hands, free toe-t … are of subjective nature, and not always reliable. Therefore, from 1974, we have been measuring the skin temperature in the revascularized parts by means of a thermister. We usually use an electric blanket to warm the proximal part of the operated limb to maintain the peripheral circulation. Under normal ward environment, we analyzed the patterns of temperature fl …

Nostril-Anchored Geometric ROI Projection for Contactless Forehead Skin Temperature Estimation Using Low-Resolution Thermal Imaging.

(1) Background: Reliable forehead region-of-interest (ROI) localization remains challenging in low-resolution thermal imaging because limited spatial detail increases localization uncertainty. This study develops a lightweight nostril-anchored geometric ROI projection method for contactless forehead skin temperature estimation. (2) Methods: The forehead ROI was projected from the detected nostril bounding box using anthropometry-guided proportional geometry, followed by 95th-percentile (P95) spatial aggregation and exponential moving average (EMA) stabilization. Direct localization was evaluat…

[Water loss through the skin and rectal temperature under phototherapy with a doped halide radiating lamp].

A new metal-halid phototherapy-lamp with a bilirubin-effective radiant energy of 11 W/m2 (focus distance 45 cm) was tested with regard to its influence on transepidermal water loss ("TEWL") and rectal temperatures. 23 term and preterm newborn infants (gestational age 28-40 weeks, body weight 980-3450 g) were examined on the first days after birth using the Evaporimeter-method. The mean value of TEWL in babies weighing greater than 2000 g (33 gestational weeks) calculated by a special graphic method (approximation) was 14 ml H2O/kg X 24 h increasing in the smallest babies in an exponential rela

The prognostic value of skin temperature variability analysis in clinical settings: a systematic review of current evidence.

Objective. While core body temperature in humans remains relatively stable within a narrow range, peripheral skin temperature fluctuates dynamically. This variability reflects complex interactions between heat loss (e.g. via vasodilation) and heat gain (e.g. through metabolic activity), all modulated by an integrated thermoregulatory network. Emerging evidence suggests that skin temperature variability (STV) may offer insight into the integrity of thermoregulatory, vascular, and autonomic control systems. This systematic review evaluates the prognostic utility of STV as a dynamic physiological …

The Association Between Elevated Foot Skin Temperature and the Incidence of Diabetic Foot Ulcers: A Meta-Analysis.

Prior to the appearance of any foot ulcer, there is an increase in the local temperature due to the presence of an underlying inflammatory process. The use of thermometry to identify inflammation could make patients increase preventive measures until the inflammation disappears. We carried out a meta-analysis to determine the effectiveness of the daily measurement of the foot temperature in 6 points to prevent the occurrence of foot ulcers in patients with diabetes. Patients with temperature differences >4°F (2.2°C) between left and right corresponding sites should reduce activity and increase

A descriptive study of skin temperature, tissue perfusion, and tissue oxygen in patients with chronic venous disease.

Chronic inflammation and microcirculatory disturbances of the skin have been implicated as causative factors of complications associated with chronic venous disease (CVD). The purpose of this study is to describe the mean differences between and correlations among three measures of microcirculation: skin temperature (Tsk), tissue perfusion/blood flow (BF), and tissue oxygen (tcPO(2)) of CVD-inflamed skin compared to normal controls. In a convenience sample of 55 patients with CVD (n = 31) and without CVD (n = 24), Tsk was measured with an infrared thermometer, BF with a laser Doppler flowmeter…

The relative increase in skin temperature after stellate ganglion block is predictive of a complete sympathectomy of the hand.

BACKGROUND AND OBJECTIVES: Although an increase in skin temperature of the hand implies sympathetic block after stellate ganglion block (SGB), it does not indicate complete sympathetic block unless accompanied by an absence of sweating because skin temperature may increase even with a partial sympathetic block. This study examined the efficacy of the SGB to block sweating in the hand and to determine if the magnitude of temperature change in the hand is predictive of a negative sweat test. METHODS: Fifty-nine SGBs were performed in 30 patients (15 women and 15 men) for diagnostic or therapeut…

The temperature effect on in vitro penetration of sodium lauryl sulfate and nickel chloride through human skin.

Irritant contact dermatitis is a major problem in dermatology. One important group of substances causing irritant dermatitis is detergents. Exposure of the skin to detergents is frequent in both work and domestic environments. In the present paper we have studied how the penetration through the skin, and thus the effect, of the detergent sodium lauryl sulfate (SLS) is altered when the temperature is raised from 22 degrees C to 40 degrees C or 60 degrees C. We found that the penetration of sodium lauryl sulfate increased with increasing temperature. When comparing the increased penetration of s

Transcutaneous oxygen pressure in systemic sclerosis: evaluation at different sensor temperatures and relationship to skin perfusion.

Transcutaneous oxygen pressure (TcPO2) and skin blood flow (as evaluated by laser doppler) (LD) were investigated in 24 systemic sclerosis (SSc) patients in sclerotic skin (dorsal aspect of the hand) and non-sclerotic skin (interscapular region) and in 24 controls matched for sex and age for the same sites. The two parameters were evaluated at 44 degrees C (temperature of the two sensors) in 13 patients and 13 controls, and at 36-37 degrees C in the remaining 11. At 44 degrees C, TcPO2 was lower in SSc patients than in controls for both sclerotic and non-sclerotic skin. At 37 degrees C there w

Influence of culturing temperature and proteinase inhibitors on the spontaneously occurring changes in the organ culture of psoriatic skin.

Skin explants from involved psoriatic lesions showed dissociation of keratinocytes, dermal-epidermal separation and degenerative changes such as cytoplasmic swelling of subcorneal prickled cells within 24 h after culture initiation at 37 degrees C in the absence of fetal bovine serum (FBS). These histological changes developed time dependently, while normal skin explants did not exhibit such phenomena. Some of the uninvolved psoriatic skin explants showed only degenerative change 48 to 72 h after culture initiation at 37 degrees C. To determine the nature of these spontaneously occurring chang

Evaluation of the accuracy of wrist skin temperature measured using an infrared sensor for prediction ovulation date.

Technological advancements have made it possible to measure vital signs through wearable devices. This study evaluated the accuracy of wrist skin temperature (WST) measured by a continuous monitoring biosensor in the Galaxy Watch 5 for predicting ovulation dates. We recruited 106 women to measure WST during sleep, oral temperature upon waking, and perform ovulation tests around expected ovulation dates. Ovulation was confirmed via progesterone blood test. We analyzed 225 cycles (85 women) in the full analysis set (FAS), and 156 cycles (52 women) in the per-protocol (PP) set. WST predicted ovul…
