[Adapted Physical Activity for patients with chronic diseases in a therapeutic community].

The French therapeutic communities ("Appartements de Coordination Therapeutique (ACT)") are mostly members of the "National Federation of Accommodation for HIV+ and other chronic diseases. They provide accommodation for people living with chronic conditions (HIV hepatitis, cancers...) and in a situation of high psychosocial frailty. As a result of their coordinated multidisciplinary intervention, these structures provide the required support to access health care and facilitate social inclusion. They are designed to provide an appropriate response to people with cumulative medical and social c…

The goal of this study was to systematically review and evaluate the literature on rural US adolescent social media use. Specifically, what is known about their social media use, amount and type of use, and the associations between social media use and health outcomes. METHODS: A systematic search was conducted on seven databases: PubMed, CINAHL, SCOPUS, PsycINFO (ProQuest), W

The relationship between motor skills and social development in 6-12 years old typically developing children: a systematic review.

BACKGROUND: Motor skill development plays a pivotal role in children's holistic development, including both physical fitness and social competence. This systematic review examined the specific relationships between motor skill components (gross and fine motor skills) and three core domains of social development (social cognition, social emotion, and social behavior) in typically developing children aged 6-12 years. METHODS: We conducted a systematic search across eight databases (Web of Science, Scopus, EBSCOhost, PubMed, ScienceDirect, CNKI, Wanfang, and VIP) from inception through April 202

Promoting Inclusive Learning Environments: Leveraging University Websites for Digital Empowerment in the Post-COVID-19 Era.

Deaf children with cochlear implants in Chile: A national analysis of health determinants and outcomes in the Latin American context.

Deafness from birth represents a critical challenge for children's communication, with substantial public health considerations. One intervention has been cochlear implants (CI) for children with severe to profound deafness. Since 2008, Chile has implemented regulations to provide a CI at an early age. However, wide variability exists in factors and expected outcomes without previous national studies. This study aimed to characterise deaf children with CI in Chile and evaluate the impact of CI on speech perception and production, social inclusion, and parental satisfaction. We conducted a pros…

Assisted reproduction: who qualifies?

Assisted reproductive technologies (ARTs) have been the focus of considerable debate in which a range of social issues has been addressed, yet the question of who is eligible for ART, who can get access, who is excluded and by what means, has received little attention in comparison with other issues. In Australia social policies presently exist in some (but not all) states which address this question, however several recently publicised cases have highlighted the need for an examination of inclusion/exclusion practices from a social justice perspective. This paper seeks to explore the issue of

Psychology of Culture Change: The Power of Situations Returns.

Creating inclusive cultures with equal opportunity and belonging is a goal of most communities and organizations, but achieving that goal has been uneven at best. Many attempts at inclusive culture change have not worked, while others have backfired. One reason is that these attempts have exclusively emphasized individual efforts and underestimated the power of situations in nudging individuals' beliefs, behaviors, interactions, and relationships, which together create local culture. This article disaggregates the power of situations into four distinct types of situational forces, by integrati

Competency-Based Education as a Catalyst for Inclusion: Practical Pathways for Supporting Nursing Students.

BACKGROUND: Nurse educators have a professional and ethical responsibility to revise curricula to be inclusive and competency-based. PROBLEM: Inclusive education benefits all students, including neurodivergent and disabled learners, and reduces reliance on individually awarded accommodations. Many nurse educators lack skills for inclusive instruction. APPROACH: This article presents a practical framework that integrates Transparency in Learning and Teaching, Universal Design for Learning, and Competency-Based Education. Grounded in the American Nurses Association Code of Ethics, this approac

What is intersectionality and why is it important in oral health research?

This paper is the second of two reviews that seek to stimulate debate on new and neglected avenues in oral health research. The first commissioned narrative review, "Inclusion oral health: Advancing a theoretical framework for policy, research and practice", published in February 2020, explored social exclusion, othering and intersectionality. In it, we argued that people who experience social exclusion face a "triple threat": they are separated from mainstream society, stigmatized by the dental profession, and severed from wider health and social care systems because of the disconnection betw

[Scars of the soul--wounds of the body: plastic surgery and psychotherapy].

With the example of two case reports of chronic wounds the connection between somatic and psycho-social factors is shown on the basis of the biopsycho-social model of disease. Both in aetiology as well as in therapy the dilemma of "somatic OR psychic" can thereby be solved. The inclusion of psychotherapeutic interventions in conservative or surgical strategies increases the probability of healing.

Frequency of bullying modulates amygdala response during social exclusion in participants with non-suicidal self-injury.

Non-suicidal self-injury (NSSI) is a phenomenon of high worldwide prevalence. Social exclusion as a major form of bullying has been reported to be an important risk factor for NSSI. We investigated how different frequencies of previous bullying experiences affect the neural processing of social exclusion in groups of female adolescents and young adults engaging in NSSI (n = 57), and matched healthy controls (n = 58). The Cyberball paradigm was used to experimentally contrast the neural effects of social exclusion relative to social inclusion.
