Psychometric properties of the Coronavirus Anxiety Scale based on Classical Test Theory (CTT) and Item Response Theory (IRT) models among Chinese front-line healthcare workers.

BACKGROUND: Since March 2022, the COVID-19 epidemic has rebounded widely and frequently in China. Healthcare workers have faced grand challenges such as soaring COVID-19 patients, being busy with the nucleic acid screening of all the populations in the epidemic areas every day, and testing positive for COVID-19, all of which contributed to anxiety easily according to the Conservation of Resources theory. However, anxiety among healthcare workers is not only associated with personal health but also adversely affects the quality of health services. Therefore, it is crucial to search for suitable

Anxiety sensitivity-physical concerns as a moderator of the emotional consequences of emotion suppression during biological challenge: an experimental test using individual growth curve analysis.

Anxiety-related responding to, and recovery from, a 5-min 10% carbon dioxide-enriched air presentation among 80 participants with no history of psychopathology was examined. Half of participants were instructed to suppress challenge-induced emotional responses, whereas their matched counterparts were instructed to observe such responses. Responding from immediately post-challenge through a 10-min recovery period was analyzed as a function of Anxiety Sensitivity-Physical Concerns and experimental condition using individual growth curve modeling. Anxiety Sensitivity-Physical Concerns moderated t

The translation and validation of the surgical anxiety questionnaire into the modern standard Arabic language: results from classical test theory and item response theory analyses.

BACKGROUND: Preoperative anxiety is commonly found in patients who are waiting for surgery and can lead to negative surgical outcomes. Understanding the sources of surgical anxiety allows healthcare providers to identify at-risk patients and implement psychosocial interventions such as counseling, relaxation techniques, and cognitive‒behavioral therapy to minimize anxiety. Few comprehensive psychiatric measures are available to assess preoperative anxiety in Arabic. OBJECTIVE: Our study aimed to translate, adapt, and validate the Surgical Anxiety Questionnaire (SAQ) into the modern standard A

Effectiveness of exposure-based treatment for childhood anxiety disorders: An open clinical trial to test its relation with indices of emotional processing and inhibitory learning.

BACKGROUND AND OBJECTIVES: The current study examined how effectiveness of exposure-based CBT was related to indices of emotional processing and inhibitory learning during exposure exercises. METHODS: Adolescents with anxiety disorder(s) (N = 72; age 11-19; 85% girls) received a group-based, intensive two-week treatment of which effectiveness was indexed by the SCARED and by ratings of anxiety and approach towards individualized goal situations. To index emotional processing, subjective units of distress (SUDs) were used to indicate both initial and final fear level, and absolute, relative, a

Dynamic myocardial perfusion computed tomography with mental stress test to detect changes in myocardial microcirculation in patients with anxiety and no obstructive coronary artery disease.

OBJECTIVE: Mental stress can induce myocardial ischemia in patients with anxiety and other psychological disorders. Computed tomography myocardial perfusion imaging (CT-MPI) has the potential to quantitatively diagnose myocardial ischemia. The aim of this study was to measure changes in myocardial microcirculation perfusion (MMP) in patients with anxiety who have angina symptoms/ischemia but no obstructive coronary artery disease (INOCA) using dynamic CT-MPI in combination with a mental stress test. METHODS: Patients with INOCA were divided into five subgroups (none, minimal, mild, moderate,

Considering Comorbidities and Individual Differences in Testing a Gaming Behavioral Activation App for Perinatal Depression and Anxiety: Open Trial Pilot Intervention Study.

BACKGROUND: There is increasing interest in the development of scalable digital mental health interventions for perinatal populations to increase accessibility. Mobile behavioral activation (BA) is efficacious for the treatment of perinatal depression; however, the effect of comorbid anxiety and depression (CAD) on symptom trajectories remains underexplored. This is important given that at least 10% of women in the perinatal period experience CAD. OBJECTIVE: We assessed whether there were differences in symptom trajectories in pregnant participants with CAD as compared to those with depressio

Does population screening for Chlamydia trachomatis raise anxiety among those tested? Findings from a population based chlamydia screening study.

BACKGROUND: The advent of urine testing for Chlamydia trachomatis has raised the possibility of large-scale screening for this sexually transmitted infection, which is now the most common in the United Kingdom. The purpose of this study was to investigate the effect of an invitation to be screened for chlamydia and of receiving a negative result on levels of anxiety, depression and self-esteem. METHODS: 19,773 men and women aged 16 to 39 years, selected at random from 27 general practices in two large city areas (Bristol and Birmingham) were invited by post to send home-collected urine sample

Maternal anxiety or depression and cognitive ability in young male offspring: A population-based cohort study using cognitive test scores from the Danish Conscription Board Examination.

PURPOSE: We aimed to study how the timing of incident maternal emotional disorders is associated with male offspring's cognitive ability in early adulthood using cognitive test data from military conscription in a population-based cohort. METHODS: We linked all males (conscripts) born in Denmark 1996-2001 to parental hospital records to identify anxiety or depression (emotional disorders). Linear regression assessed the association between the timing of the first maternal diagnosis (before, during, or after birth (0-1, 1-5, 6-17 years)) and cognitive ability measured at the Danish Conscriptio

Perceived Social Support from Parents, Teachers, and Friends as Predictors of Test Anxiety in Chinese Final-Year High School Students: The Mediating Role of Academic Buoyancy.

A pervasive and significant academic challenge confronted by students on a global scale is the phenomenon of test anxiety. This phenomenon is exacerbated in China, especially among final-year high school students who face college entrance exams. Perceived social support is widely regarded as the most prevalent protective factor against test anxiety. Academic buoyancy also demonstrates a significant correlation with test anxiety. However, there has been limited research on the potential relationship between perceived social support, academic buoyancy, and test anxiety. The purpose of this study

Assessment of general anxiety in patients with breast disease and breast cancer using the Spielberger STAI self evaluation test: a prospective case-control study in Finland.

BACKGROUND: Trait anxiety (T-Anxiety) was assessed using the subscale from the Spielberger State-Trait Anxiety Inventory test (STAI form Y-2), with statements refering to how a person generally feels, and a higher total score reflecting a higher T-Anxiety. To the authors' knowledge, the associations between the STAI test and the risk of breast cancer (BC) are rarely considered together in a prospective study. PATIENTS AND METHODS: In an extension of the Kuopio Breast Cancer Study 115 women with breast symptoms were evaluated for anxiety using the STAI form Y-2 test before any diagnostic proce

Patterns of alpha asymmetry in those with elevated worry, trait anxiety, and obsessive-compulsive symptoms: A test of the worry and avoidance models of alpha asymmetry.

Some authors have argued that worry cues lateralization of frontal brain activity leftward, whereas other varieties of avoidance motivation cue lateralization of frontal brain activity rightward. By comparison, more right-than-left parietal activity correlates with anxious arousal. The purpose of the present report was to test two models of brain lateralization and anxiety: one model that proposed that worry correlates with more left-frontal activity and another model that proposed that avoidance motivation (including worry) correlates with more right-frontal activity. Anxiety associated with prostate cancer screening with special reference to men with a positive screening test (elevated PSA) - Results from a prospective, population-based, randomised study.

Levels of anxiety were assessed through questionnaires completed by 1781 screen-positive (PSA > or = 3 ng/mL) men attending the European Randomised Study of Screening for Prostate Cancer in Gothenburg, Sweden. During the first visit (clinical examination, including biopsies), no anxiety whilst awaiting the PSA test results was reported by 66% and 2% reported high levels of anxiety. A multinomial logistics model for repeated measurements, adjusted for age, PSA level, heredity, biopsy finding and urinary symptoms, revealed that anxiety awaiting the PSA was only influenced (increased) by the exis

Heterogeneity in health anxiety among medical students and HPV testing acceptability: the mediating role of eHealth literacy from a person-centered perspective.

BACKGROUND: Medical students, as future healthcare professionals, play a critical role in promoting preventive attitudes such as Human Papillomavirus (HPV) testing. However, their own preventive intentions may be influenced by psychological factors. This study aimed to identify latent profiles of health anxiety (HA) among medical students and examine how these profiles relate to HPV testing acceptability through the mediating role of eHealth literacy (eHL), informed by selected constructs from Protection Motivation Theory (PMT). METHODS: A cross-sectional survey was conducted among 887 medica

Testing Behavioral Nudges and Prompts in Digital Courses for the Self-guided Treatment of Depression and Anxiety: Protocol for a 3-Arm Randomized Controlled Trial.

BACKGROUND: Despite showing strong evidence of positive outcomes, a common problem in the field of digital health is poor engagement and adherence. Non-health care, for-profit digital ventures, such as Facebook, LinkedIn, and Twitter, conduct behavioral experiments to increase user engagement. To our knowledge, digital health organizations have not published similar types of experiments in ad libitum environments, and there are limited published data indicating whether nudges and prompts can be leveraged to increase engagement with digital health interventions. OBJECTIVE: The main objective o
