In vitro biological properties of pyridoxine and ketorolac conjugates.

Prodrugs based on pyridoxine and ketorolac (the most potent analgesic NSAIDs) exhibit analgesic activity comparable to ketorolac in vivo and significantly higher safety and prolonged action. In this study the antioxidant and protective properties, inhibitory activity against cyclooxygenase (COX) and intracellular permeability for two prodrug bipharmacophoric conjugates based on pyridoxine and ketorolac have been investigated in vitro. Their inhibitory activity towards the COX-1 and COX-2 enzymes was comparable to that of ketorolac (the IC50 values ranged from 12.0 μM to 34.7 μM). These compoun

Computational and experimental approaches for HPMCAS-based solid dispersions of abiraterone acetate: formulation, characterization, and biopharmaceutical enhancement evaluation.

OBJECTIVE: To enhance the solubility and dissolution rate of poorly watersoluble drug Abiraterone Acetate (ABA) by developing solid dispersions using hydroxypropyl methylcellulose acetate succinate (HPMCAS-LF). SIGNIFICANCE: Enhancing the biopharmaceutical performance of ABA is crucial due to its extremely poor solubility and dissolution characteristics. The present study demonstrates that HPMCAS-LF-based solid dispersion effectively improves the physicochemical performance of ABA through enhanced solubility, dissolution, and in vitro drug diffusion. METHODS: Molecular dynamics (MD) simulati

Activation-Controlled Structural Integrity in A520 MOF Membranes for Efficient CO2/N2 and CO2/CH4 Separation.

Aluminum fumarate (A520) is a promising metal-organic framework (MOF) for gas adsorption and separation. However, the fabrication of dense, pristine polycrystalline A520 membranes has not yet been reported. Herein, we present a robust seeded-growth protocol to fabricate continuous A520 polycrystalline membranes with a thickness of approximately 3 μm on α-alumina substrates. Our results demonstrate that the post-synthetic activation process plays a critical role in determining membrane integrity. In particular, a methanol exchange (ME) pretreatment prior to thermal activation effectively suppre

Diffusion of Carbon Monoxide and Hydrogen Cyanide to Muscles and Blood-An Experimental Study.

Postmortem carbon monoxide (CO) and hydrogen cyanide (HCN) diffusion under ambient conditions was assessed in a human cadaver model. The main objective of this study was to determine whether the postmortem diffusion of HCN and CO greatly affected the determination of HCN, carboxyhemoglobin (COHb), and carboxymyoglobin (COMb). Layered samples of blood, musculocutaneous, and muscular specimens were collected from the adult cadavers and placed in the tight chambers designed for the purpose of this experiment. The specimens were treated with CO and HCN for 24 h. COHb and COMb were determined using

Infrared thermal imaging for automated detection of diabetic foot complications.

BACKGROUND: Although thermal imaging can be a valuable technology in the prevention and management of diabetic foot disease, it is not yet widely used in clinical practice. Technological advancement in infrared imaging increases its application range. The aim was to explore the first steps in the applicability of high-resolution infrared thermal imaging for noninvasive automated detection of signs of diabetic foot disease. METHODS: The plantar foot surfaces of 15 diabetes patients were imaged with an infrared camera (resolution, 1.2 mm/pixel): 5 patients had no visible signs of foot complicat

Computational study of photo-thermal ablation of large blood vessel embedded tumor using localized injection of gold nanoshells.

Attaining a precise necrosis of tumor sparing normal tissue during carcinomas thermo-therapy via nominally invasive scheme like irradiation of laser is a recent challenge. In this study, a combined diffusion and convective energy equations were solved using COMSOL Multiphysics to predict the tissue thermal profile during laser assisted thermo-therapy with different tissue vascular networks. A comparative analysis between intratumoral and intravenous loading scheme of silica-gold nanoshells (AuNs) was also performed. AuNs cluster position and alignment was altered to achieve precise ablation of

Postharvest browning in Yam (Dioscorea spp.): Mechanisms, scenario-specific control strategies, and practical applications.

Browning is a major postharvest and processing-related quality problem in yam (Dioscorea spp.), but its occurrence and control depend strongly on product form. This review summarizes yam browning from a product-specific, mechanism-based, and application-oriented perspective, covering whole yam tubers, fresh-cut slices, yam purée/paste, and thermally processed products. Whole tubers are mainly affected by storage conditions, wound responses, and oxygen exposure, while fresh-cut slices rapidly develop polyphenol oxidase (PPO)/peroxidase (POD)-mediated enzymatic browning after tissue disruption.

Ester-Alkyl Linker-Regulated Molecular Folding in Head-to-Head Dimers Enabling >20% Efficiency in Organic Solar Cells.

Dimeric acceptors have demonstrated significant potential for the simultaneous realization of high efficiency, good stability, and even stretchability in organic solar cells (OSCs). However, most dimeric acceptors suffer from compromised efficiency due to insufficient morphological control. Herein, we design and synthesize three head-to-head flexible alkyl-chain-linked dimeric acceptors, CH-E2, CH-E6, and CH-E10, along with their monomeric counterpart CH-E1, by systematically varying the alkyl linker lengths via esterification. This synthetic approach avoids conventional metal-catalyzed coupli

DLS-Derived Apparent Mobility as a Formulation-Relevant Descriptor of Thermoresponsive Methylcellulose Gelation and Hysteresis.

Methylcellulose is a thermoresponsive polymer that undergoes thermally induced association and gelation upon heating, with behavior strongly influenced by thermal history, concentration, and ionic environment. In this work, dynamic light scattering (DLS) was used beyond conventional particle size analysis to monitor the temperature-dependent mobility of methylcellulose solutions through the apparent diffusion coefficient, complemented by transmittance and oscillatory rheology. For a 0.1 wt.% methylcellulose solution, rheology showed a sol-gel transition during heating between approximately 50

Unsteady MHD jeffrey nanofluid flow over porous stretching sheet with cattaneo-christov double diffusion and stefan blowing effects.

The present study examines the unsteady boundary-layer flow, together with heat and mass transport of Jeffrey nanofluid over a porous stretched sheet influenced by magnetic field effects, Stefan blowing/suction, and porous medium resistance. The study aims to improve the understanding of heat and mass transport in non-Newtonian nanofluids under complex flow conditions. The Buongiorno two-phase model captures nanoparticle dynamics via Brownian motion and thermophoresis, by incorporating Cattaneo-Christov double-diffusion fluxes to describe realistic thermal and concentration relaxation beyond c

Novel MEMS Multisensor Chip for Aerodynamic Pressure Measurements.

The key equipment for performing aerodynamic testing of objects, such as road and railway vehicles, aircraft, and wind turbines, as well as stationary objects such as bridges and buildings, are multichannel pressure measurement instruments (pressure scanners). These instruments are typically based on arrays of separate pressure sensors built in an enclosure that also contains temperature sensors used for temperature compensation. However, there are significant limitations to such a construction, especially when increasing requirements in terms of miniaturization, the number of pressure channel

MR thermometry.

Minimally invasive thermal therapy as local treatment of benign and malignant diseases has received increasing interest in recent years. Safety and efficacy of the treatment require accurate temperature measurement throughout the thermal procedure. Noninvasive temperature monitoring is feasible with magnetic resonance (MR) imaging based on temperature-sensitive MR parameters such as the proton resonance frequency (PRF), the diffusion coefficient (D), T1 and T2 relaxation times, magnetization transfer, the proton density, as well as temperature-sensitive contrast agents. Pine Bark Tannin-Based Resins for Wood Composite Applications.

This study investigates the viability of using tannins extracted from pine barkspecifically Pinus ponderosa (PT), Pinus radiata (RT), and a commercial maritime pine bark tannin (CT)as a substitute for phenol in phenol-resorcinol-formaldehyde (PRF) resins. Tannins were hot-water-extracted from bark and characterized by TGA, FTIR, ESI-MS, and NMR, revealing distinct differences in chemical structure, molar mass, and thermal stability. Resin systems were prepared using PRF, tannin, and tannin-PRF hybrids (1:1) and were (i) evaluated for adhesive properties by lap shear tests and (ii) incorporat

Cycle-conditional diffusion model for noise correction of diffusion-weighted images using unpaired data.

Diffusion-weighted imaging (DWI) is a key modality for studying brain microstructure, but its signals are highly susceptible to noise due to the thermal motion of water molecules and interactions with tissue microarchitecture, leading to significant signal attenuation and a low signal-to-noise ratio (SNR). In this paper, we propose a novel approach, a Cycle-Conditional Diffusion Model (Cycle-CDM) using unpaired data learning, aimed at improving DWI quality and reliability through noise correction. Cycle-CDM leverages a cycle-consistent translation architecture to bridge the domain gap between

Laser-Induced High-Density Bi-F-C Sites to Unleash Potent Li⁺ Adsorption for Stable Lithium Anodes.

The synthesis of high-loading single-atom materials remains a significant challenge due to the intrinsic tendency of metal atoms to aggregate. To overcome this limitation, an electrostatic pre-organization and laser-driven carbonization (EPO-LDC) strategy is developed. Nafion sulfonates electrostatically pre-organize Bi3+ at the molecular scale, while ultrafast laser quenching enables non-equilibrium synthesis, initiating simultaneous carbon reconstruction and fluorine-mediated covalent bonding within nanoseconds. This rapid thermal confinement kinetically restricts atomic diffusion, thereby c

Transport processes and coalescence of two entrapping bubbles during upward solidification.

The transport processes and coalescence of a pair of bubbles during upward unidirectional solidification of water containing carbon dioxide are numerically investigated. In addition to affecting material microstructure, functional porous materials have applications in biology, tissue engineering, food preservation, and addressing global warming through porous sea ice. In this study, transport equations within the bubble, liquid, and solid phases are solved using the commercial COMSOL software (version 5.2). The results indicate that coalescence is promoted by fluid flow after bubbles make cont

Crystal Chemistry, Optic and Magnetic Characterizations of a New Copper Based Material Templated by Hexahydrodiazepine.

Crystals of the new organic-inorganic material (DAP-H2)[CuBr4] (1); (DAP = hexahydrodiazepine (C5H14N2)) were successfully synthesized by slow evaporation and characterized by single-crystal X-ray diffraction, infrared spectroscopy, thermal analysis, UV-Vis-NIR diffuse reflectance spectroscopy, and magnetic measurements. X-ray investigation demonstrates that 1 crystallizes in the monoclinic space group C2/c. The supramolecular crystal structure of 1 is guided by several types of hydrogen bonding which connect anions and cations together into a three-dimensional network. The optical band gap wa

A tissue preparation to characterize uterine fibroid tissue properties for thermal therapies.

PURPOSE: Treating uterine fibroids with less invasive therapies such as magnetic resonance-guided focused ultrasound (MRgFUS) is an attractive alternative to surgery. Treatment planning can improve MRgFUS procedures and reduce treatment times, but the tissue properties that currently inform treatment planning tools are not adequate. This study aims to develop an ex vivo uterine fibroid model that can emulate the in vivo environment allowing for characterization of the uterus and fibroid MR, acoustic, and thermal tissue properties while maintaining viability for the necessary postsurgical histo

Cold bonding of aluminium to copper by deformation-enhanced diffusion.

Cold bonding between dissimilar metals and alloys offers several benefits, such as the absence of soft heat-affected zones and thick intermetallic layers with properties that differ from those of the base metals. At room temperature, thermally driven diffusion processes are negligible, but we demonstrate here that mechanically strong bonds are still feasible through high plastic deformation and high strain rates. If the strain rate is high and the temperature is kept low to avoid significant annihilation of vacancies, mechanically strong bonds involving intermetallic compound formation can sti
