PURPOSE: For the visualization of pulmonary ventilation with Electrical Impedance Tomography (EIT) most devices use standard reconstruction models, featuring common thorax dimensions and predetermined electrode locations. Any discrepancies between the available model and the patient in terms of body shape and electrode position lead to incorrectly displayed impedance distributions. This work addresses that problem by presenting and evaluating a method for 3D model generation of the thorax and any affixed electrodes based on handheld video-footage.

OBJECTIVE: Diabetes mellitus, smoking, dyslipidemia, and obesity play an important role in the etiology of erectile dysfunction, particularly in cases with vascular insufficiency. These risk factors also target the lungs due to their systemic effects.
MATERIALS AND METHODS: Patients with penile vascular insufficiency determined at Doppler ultrasonography and undergoing thoracic computerized tomography for various reasons were included in this study. Report on a follow-up of 38 children treated with surgery for bronchiectasis during the last 10 years at the Department of Paediatric Surgery at the Dresden Medical Academy. 25 patients could be followed-up. In 17 of them a thoracotomy was performed in an age below 10 years. Besides some minor changes like narrowing of the intercostal spaces several cases with scoliosis of the vertebral column could be found. The importance of early controls and intensive physiotherapy for these cases is stressed. A case with rib osteomyelitis after surgery, which made thoracoplasty necessary is discussed.
