The occurrence of different types of trauma concomitantly can complicate the establishment of the most appropriate treatment. This report describes the clinical management of orofacial trauma including multiple avulsions, lateral luxation, alveolar fracture, and their sequelae after 7 years of follow-up. A 19-year-old woman presented to emergency care 4 hours after an accidental fall that resulted in the avulsion of teeth #8, #9, and #25; a complicated crown fracture and lateral luxation of tooth #7; an uncomplicated crown fracture of tooth #10; and a fracture of the maxillary alveolar bone. INTRODUCTION: The absence or presence of root resorption on the surface of a replanted tooth indicates an immune-inflammatory reaction. Recent research even suggests the participation of host predominant immunologic profile on types of resorptions detected on the root surface. Because interleukin 4 (IL-4) is an important anti-inflammatory cytokine, this study aimed to investigate the association of clinical variables and polymorphisms in IL4 with types of resorption of replanted teeth after 1 year of follow-up.
METHODS: One hundred twenty-seven avulsed teeth that were replanted were selected.

Following avulsion and replantation, teeth are at risk for infection and infection related resorption (IRR). Severe discolorations of tooth crowns and cervical root fractures are common. This study presents data on endodontic related complications of avulsed teeth replanted following an extraoral endodontic treatment. Periodontal aspects will be discussed in the second part of the present publication. Twenty-eight permanent teeth in 24 patients aged seven to 17 years were replanted after avulsion. All teeth could be evaluated. In all teeth extraoral endodontic treatment by retrograde insertion

This case report describes the importance of continual examination for dental trauma and the efficacy of intentional replantation with retrograde root canal filling for a transverse root fracture in an immature incisor accompanied by subsequent periodontal-endodontic disease. In the treatment of traumatically fractured roots in immature incisors, continual examination is indispensable for the final diagnosis because roots in immature teeth are less calcified, resulting in less detailed radiological examinations. Thus, common dental trauma complications such as pulp necrosis may appear months a

This paper presents a comparison of the outcome of two cases where teeth, avulsed in sporting accidents, were replanted in general dental practice and have been reviewed for 5 years. Avulsed teeth which were stored dry, had a long extra-alveolar period and were splinted for a longer period of time, ultimately underwent replacement root resorption (case 1). There was no evidence of resorption, after 5 years, in the tooth that was stored in the patient's own saliva and was replanted within 45 minutes of being avulsed (case 2). The replantation procedure for these two cases was based on recent li

This article describes the successful concurrent intentional replantation (IR) of 2 maxillary molars. A 28-year-old woman complained of repeated swelling and pain in the left maxilla when chewing. Teeth No. 14 and 15 were sensitive to percussion and palpation. Radiographs revealed a large periapical radiolucent lesion and inadequate root canal fillings in both teeth. The patient refused nonsurgical retreatment, periradicular surgery, or implant replacement as treatment options, so IR was chosen. After the extraction of tooth No. 14, root-end resection and root-end preparation of the 3 roots we

Avulsion is a complex injury affecting the pulp, periodontal ligament and the alveolar bone. Avulsed permanent teeth can survive following replantation. However, post-traumatic external root resorption eventually resulting in loss of the traumatized tooth is a frequent finding. After replantation of the avulsed teeth, esthetic requirements can be needed. Treatment options include porcelain laminate veneers, metal-ceramic restorations and all-ceramic crowns as well as minimally invasive procedures such as direct resin composite bonding. This article describes the restoration of avulsed and repl

The purpose of the present review was to examine success, survival and failure following intentional replantation of endodontically treated teeth with existing periapical pathosis and to determine the factors that might affect the outcome of replantation. Clinical trials, longitudinal studies, case series with >10 cases and at least 1-year follow-up were included. The average rate of success following intentional replantation was 77.23%. Meta-analysis revealed the mean weighted survival to be 85.9% (95% CI: 79.6-91.2) Common complications include inflammatory root resorption (0%-27%) and ankyl

This study aimed to compare the survival of replanted teeth that followed the 2012 or the 2020 International Association of Dental Traumatology (IADT) guidelines. Sixty-two permanent replanted teeth were retrospectively assessed (IADT 2012, n = 45; IADT 2020, n = 17). Five years after replantation (from January 2017 to December 2021), clinical and radiographic examinations were performed. A significance level of 95% was considered to evaluate the outcomes. Thirty-one teeth (50.0%) remained in their sockets and 31 (50.0%) were lost due to external root resorption. Of the 25 (40.3%) teeth replan

The purpose of the present investigation was to use an intra-individual experimental-control study design to explore if application of Emdogain prior to re-plantation after a dry extra-alveolar period of 60 min would promote a favorable healing of the periodontal ligament cells. Ten patients, for whom already decisions had been taken to extract two maxillary premolars because of crowding, participated in the study. The teeth were extracted and endodontic treatment was performed extra orally. The experimental tooth and its alveolar socket were covered with Emdogain prior to replantation. The co

AIM: To investigate dental pulp healing after tooth replantation in rats using nestin as an odontoblastic marker for immunohistochemical analysis.
METHODOLOGY: Twenty-five maxillary right first molars from 25 female Sprague-Dawley rats, aged 4 weeks post-natally, were extracted and immediately repositioned in the original socket within 5 s. Five rats each were later killed on days 3, 5 and weeks 1, 2 and 4. The maxillae were removed en bloc and the tissue samples containing the maxillary right first molars were decalcified, sectioned, mounted and stained with anti-nestin antibody to be observ

Harnessing the developmental events of mesenchymal condensation to direct postnatal dental stem cell aggregation represents a cutting-edge and promising approach to tooth regeneration. Tooth avulsion is among the most prevalent and serious dental injuries, and odontogenic aggregates assembled by stem cells from human exfoliated deciduous teeth (SHED) have proven effective in revitalizing avulsed teeth after replantation in the clinical trial. However, whether and how SHED aggregates (SA) communicate with recipient components and promote synergistic tissue regeneration to support replanted teet

External resorption is often first detected radiographically. Early detection can lead to timely intervention and improvement of treatment outcome. The purpose of this study was to determine the minimal radicular defect size in maxillary anterior teeth that is radiographically detectable. Six teeth were selected in a cadaver maxilla (#6-11) and extracted. The teeth were then replanted in the maxilla, and three horizontally angled radiographs (0 degrees , 30 degrees from the mesial, and 30 degrees from the distal) were exposed as a baseline. Then, a sequence of tooth removal, placement of a 0.1

We report a case of multiple dental traumas in a 15-year-old school boy who was hit by a stone. Clinical examinations revealed the avulsion of teeth 21, 22, and 23, an uncomplicated crown fracture of tooth 41, and a complicated crown fracture (CCF) of teeth 11, 31, and 33. An alveolar bone fracture and a root fracture in the apical third of tooth 23 were as well noted on radiographs. The avulsed teeth were replanted and rigidly splinted after an extraoral dry time of 90 min. Endodontic treatments were performed on teeth with CCFs. The dental morphology was restored using polyethylene fiber-rei

This report presents a successful long-term outcome of an immediate replantation of an avulsed immature permanent maxillary central incisor in an eight-year-old girl. The avulsion occurred at home during recreational activity, and the tooth was replanted within 10 min by the patient's mother, a trained allied health professional. Clinical and radiographic assessments confirmed an open apex (Cvek stage 4), and the patient was managed in accordance with the International Association of Dental Traumatology guidelines, including flexible splinting and close follow-up. Over a five-year period, the

Numerous publications have reported revascularization of necrotic immature permanent teeth, but the regenerative potential of pulp in mature teeth has rarely been considered. Platelet-rich plasma (PRP) meets many requirements of a scaffold for regenerative endodontics. To the best of our knowledge, no clinical study has evaluated PRP for endodontic regeneration in a mature avulsed tooth. The present case evaluated PRP for pulpal regeneration in an avulsed mature incisor (>8 hours extraoral dry time) of an 11-year-old boy after delayed replantation. The canal was disinfected after extraoral acc

AIM: The search for effective protocols to reduce the incidence of root resorption and allow periodontal ligament repair is still challenging, given the unpredictable outcome of late tooth replantation. The aim of this study was to assess the effects of both high-power diode laser irradiation (DL) and basic fibroblast growth factor (FGF) on the periodontal healing of replanted teeth after extended extra-oral dry time.
METHODS: Maxillary incisors of 50 male rats were extracted and assigned to three experimental and two control groups (n = 10). DL: root surfaces treated with DL (810 nm, continu
