Data were collected using validated instruments: the Secondary Traumatic Stress Scale (STSS), Depression Anxiety Stress Scale-12 (DASS-12), Impact of Event Scale-Revised (IES-R

Mental Health Disorders in Nurses During the COVID-19 Pandemic: Implications and Coping Strategies.

Nurses caring for patients who contract coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) have experienced significant traumas in the form of increased workloads, negative patient outcomes, and less social support system access. Nurses should be provided with information regarding early detection, coping skills and treatment for anxiety, depression, post-traumatic stress syndrome (PTSS)/post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), and other mental health disorders. Early intervention is important as mental health disorders can cause dysfunction, internal suffering, and in the most extreme situations, lead to deat

Ethical Challenges in the Care of the Trauma Patient.

A patient with trauma presents a unique and/or complex challenge to the ethical foundation that guides nursing care. Patients with trauma, by the very nature of the suddenness of their injury, are unable to predetermine or express their wishes in the event of a catastrophic injury. The providers who care for patients with trauma do not have an established patient relationship to aid them in decision-making based on what they think the patient would wish or based on past conversations. Yet, they provide expert care and use ethical principles to direct their professional responsibility to these

Education and training requirements for health care professionals caring for patients with a peripheral intravenous catheter: a best practice implementation project.

INTRODUCTION: Peripheral intravenous catheters (PIVCs) are the most commonly used invasive health care devices; however, 35%-50% of PIVCs fail due to complications such as phlebitis, infiltration, occlusion, and infection. Health care professionals (HCPs) play a critical role in minimizing these risks through adherence to evidence-based practices (EBPs). OBJECTIVE: The objective of this project was to promote EBPs regarding education and training for HCPs caring for a patient with a PIVC in a trauma/trauma surgery unit in Mississippi, USA. METHODS: The project was guided by the JBI Evidence

Evaluating the impact of a new clean intermittent self-catheterisation device: experiences of male patients.

Urinary incontinence is common and has many causes. A main one is urinary retention, and clean intermittent self-catheterisation is the gold standard for managing it. There are, however, complications associated with performing this, which affect patient experience, quality of life and compliance with the procedure. The most common complication is urinary tract infection (UTI), which can be debilitating and have serious consequences. On average, patients experience 2.7 UTIs a year. Infection often arises from residual urine left behind, this can be caused by mucosal suction into catheter eyele
