Well-differentiated neuroendocrine tumor of the urinary bladder expressing GATA 3.

Neuroendocrine neoplasms of the urinary bladder are uncommon tumors represented by small-cell neuroendocrine carcinoma and by fewer cases of large-cell neuroendocrine carcinomas and well-differentiated neuroendocrine tumors. Less than 30 examples of this latter entity have been published so far and consisted of clinically indolent lesions mainly located in the bladder neck arranged in a pseudo-glandular architecture often associated with reactive urothelial changes like cystitis cystica/glandularis. Due to their infrequency, pathologists may face difficulty to recognize this proliferation cons

Lower urinary tract reconstruction following cystectomy: experience and results in 96 patients using the orthotopic ileal bladder substitution of Studer et al.

Between 1989 and 1993 96 patients (89 males and 7 females) affected with invasive neoplasms of the bladder underwent surgery consisting of the creation of an orthotopic ileal neobladder according to Studer et al., after radical cystectomy. Patient selection and details of the surgical procedure are described. An accurate follow-up of 3-60 months (mean: 28 months) is presented. There have been 6 perioperative deaths (6.2%) and 11 early complications, all directly related to the neobladder and requiring reoperation in 6 cases (6.2%). Late complications required rehospitalization in 23 cases (23.

Villous Adenoma of the Urinary Bladder: A Brief Review of the Literature.

Villous adenoma is a rare neoplasm in the urinary tract. It usually occurs in patients older than 50 years with a male predominance. The affected patients typically present with hematuria, irritative voiding symptoms, and mucosuria. The malignant potential of this entity has not been established, but some of the case series studies on bladder villous adenoma do suggest a possible association with malignant tumors. Findings on ultrasonography, computed tomographic scanning, magnetic resonance imaging, or on cystoscopic examination are nonspecific. Therefore, villous adenoma of the bladder is pr

[Mesenchymal tumors of the urinary bladder].

Mesenchymal tumors and tumor-like lesions of the urinary bladder are rare. They encompass a heterogeneous group of reactive pseudosarcomatous tumor-like changes and benign neoplastic lesions as well as malignant neoplasms (sarcomas) with variable biological behavior. The well-known differential diagnostic difficulties related to these conditions are mainly due to their rarity and thus limited experience and familiarity with their histological features and due to the significant morphological overlap between fully benign reactive conditions and aggressive malignant neoplasms. The distinction be

Relationship between Bladder Cancer, Nutritional Supply, and Treatment Strategies: A Comprehensive Review.

Bladder cancer (BC) is the predominant neoplasm affecting the urinary system and ranks among the most widespread malignancies globally. The causes of bladder cancer include genetic factors; age; sex; and lifestyle factors, such as imbalanced nutrition, obesity, and metabolic disorders. The lack of proper nutrient intake leads to the development of bladder cancer because insufficient nutrients are consumed to prevent this disease. The purpose of this review was to analyze the nutrients closely linked to the onset and advancement of bladder cancer and to explore the relationship between dietary

Lymphoid neoplasms of the urinary tract and male genital organs: a clinicopathological study of 40 cases.

Lymphoid neoplasms of the urinary tract and male genital organs are relatively rare, comprising less than 5% of all primary extranodal lymphomas; only a handful of small case series and isolated case reports have been published describing their predominant sites and subtypes. We identified 40 patients with lymphoid neoplasms of the urinary tract and male genital organs. Hematoxylin and eosin slides and immunohistochemical stains were reviewed, and follow-up data were also obtained. Twenty-six of 40 cases (65%) were primary genitourinary lymphomas. Mean age at diagnosis was 56 years (range 4-86

Evaluation of sonographic features for patients with urinary bladder paraganglioma: a comparison with patients with urothelial carcinoma.

The goals of the work described here were to analyze the ultrasonographic characteristics of urinary bladder paraganglioma and to evaluate the use of ultrasonography (US) in diagnosis. Ten patients with bladder paraganglioma (3 males, 7 females) and 51 patients with urothelial carcinoma (37 males, 14 females) were enrolled. Ultrasonographic characteristics as well as clinical features were analyzed. Patients with urothelial carcinoma were significantly older than those with paraganglioma (62.9 y vs. 48.1 y, p = 0.001). The patients with paraganglioma had higher average systolic blood pressure

Expression of Gata Binding Protein 3 as a Prognostic Factor in Urogenital Lesions and Its Association With Morphology.

BACKGROUND: Urogenital malignancies, encompassing urinary bladder cancer, prostate cancer, and renal cell carcinoma, pose significant diagnostic challenges due to overlapping histopathological features. GATA binding protein 3 (GATA3), a transcription factor associated with urothelial tissue, has shown promise as a potential diagnostic marker. This study aimed to investigate the incidence of these malignancies, explore GATA3's involvement in urothelial cancer (UC), and determine its role in distinguishing urogenital malignancies. MATERIALS AND METHODS: A cross-sectional, retro-prospective, hos

Bladder Cancer in Exosomal Perspective: Unraveling New Regulatory Mechanisms.

Bladder cancer, a prevalent malignant neoplasm of the urinary tract, exhibits escalating morbidity and mortality rates. Current diagnosis standards rely on invasive and costly cystoscopy and histopathology, underscoring the urgency for non-invasive, high-throughput, and cost-effective novel diagnostic techniques to ensure timely detection and standardized treatment. Recent years have witnessed the rise of exosome research in bladder cancer studies. Exosomes contain abundant bioactive molecules that can help elucidate the intricate mechanisms underlying bladder cancer pathogenesis and metastasi

Comparison of urinary neopterin and pseudouridine in patients with malignant proliferative diseases.

The HPLC method for the simultaneous determination of urinary neopterin, pseudouridine, and creatinine allows a rapid evaluation of the activation state of cell-mediated immunity, and the stimulation of whole-body rRNA + tRNA turnover, associated with malignant growth. Urinary neopterin and pseudouridine concentrations in healthy subjects amounted to: 106.6 +/- 34.6 mumol/mol creatinine, and 19.6 +/- 5.2 mmol/mol creatinine (mean +/- SD), respectively. The increase of neopterin excretion in patients with haematological neoplasms ranged from 146% in Hodgkin's disease to 534% in non-Hodgkin's ly

Brown tumor as manifestation of parathyroid hyperplasia in two cases with end-stage renal failure.

A 78-year-old woman underwent radical cystectomy due to high-grade infiltrating urothelial carcinoma of the urinary bladder. Histopathological examination of the bladder neck revealed coincidental urothelial carcinoma and tubular neoplasm resembling prostatic acinar adenocarcinoma. The latter was accompanied by a non-invasive component showing features of high-grade prostatic intraepithelial neoplasia (PIN). The lesion showed immunopositivity for prostate-specific antigen, prostein, and androgen receptor. The diagnosis of Skene's gland adenocarcinoma (SGA) was established. This is the 14th cas

Diagnostic puzzle of inflammatory pseudotumor of the urinary bladder: a case report with brief literature review.

Inflammatory pseudotumor of the urinary bladder is a rare reactive proliferation with a clinical presentation similar to malignant neoplasms. We present the case of a 35-year-old woman who presented with left lower quadrant pain and gross hematuria. A diagnosis of cystitis glandularis was initially considered; however, the symptoms did not resolve following transurethral resection. Subsequently, a partial cystectomy was performed after malignancy was excluded based on intraoperative frozen sections. Further histopathological evaluation confirmed the diagnosis of inflammatory pseudotumor.

Ureteral sarcoma in a dog.

A ureteral sarcoma was diagnosed in a nine-year-old Weimaraner dog with gross haematuria, severe unilateral hydronephrosis, and hydroureter. Treatment consisted of unilateral nephrectomy and ureterectomy. This case was compared with 14 other ureteral tumours reported in the veterinary literature. Only three previous reports concerned a malignant ureteral tumour. Urinary tract neoplasms mainly involve the bladder and the kidney, and more rarely the urethra. The purpose of this paper is to report a rare case of malignant ureteral tumour in a dog.

Breast Cancer Metastasis with a Ureteral Obstruction and Bladder Mass.

Breast cancer is the most common cause of cancer mortality in females globally, and a significant proportion of patients develop metastatic disease. Common metastatic sites of breast cancer include bone, lung, liver, and brain. Secondary neoplasms (metastases from other primary sites) represent a minority of all malignant bladder tumors In this report, we describe a case of breast cancer metastasis with ureteral obstruction and bladder mass in a 60-year-old African-American female. For over a decade, this patient was asymptomatic and had been under surveillance following bilateral radical mast

[Surgery of infiltrating bladder tumors].

Surgical treatment of transitional bladder tumours is based on liberal resection of the bladder. After cystectomy, reconstitution of the urinary tract is required for urinary excretion and patient comfort. The bladder can be replaced by a segment of intestine detached from the digestive tract. Another mean is urinary diversion at the abdominal wall by a direct or continent fistula. The patient should be seen 6 weeks after surgery to assess the quality of the surgical assemblage, the absence of distension of the upper urinary tract and the degree of patient comfort. Subsequently, the patient sh
