BACKGROUND AND OBJECTIVES: Many different anesthetic techniques have been used for extracorporeal shock wave lithotripsy, each with its own benefits and disadvantages. A study was made to determine the efficacy and safety of subarachnoid sufentanil as an analgesic technique for lithotripsy.
METHODS: Eight consecutive patients from the University of Michigan Medical Center and twelve consecutive patients from the University of Vermont College of Medicine were retrospectively studied. The need for additional anesthesia, incidence of adverse effects, and discharge times were assessed.

The incidence of ectopic pregnancies has been expressed in various ways that are not comparable and provide widely differing estimates due to individual definitions of the denominator. Population-based data are presented based on a count of all ectopic pregnancies reported in short stay hospitals in Maine, Rhode Island, and Vermont in 1974-1976. One hundred ninety-eight patients with 211 cancers of the colon and rectum underwent elective resection at the University of Vermont College of Medicine during the five year period 1971 through 1975. Analysis of this series demonstrated that 35 per cent of all cancers were located in the cecum and ascending colon, that a similar percentage were classified as Dukes' A cancers, that a synchronous cancer was present in 5.5 per cent of the patients and that diagnosis by rectal examination and sigmoidscopy was possible in only 32 per cent of the patients. BACKGROUND: Women at risk for inherited breast cancer have been identified for intervention studies through newly diagnosed relatives or from volunteers with a family history. This pilot study tested the use of a mammography registry to identify women at risk.

Lameness and hock injuries are recognized welfare and production problems in the dairy industry. The objective of this study was to describe changes in the prevalence of these ailments in 15 freestall herds in the Northeastern United States that participated in an on-farm assessment program. OBJECTIVE: To evaluate the impact of necrotizing enterocolitis (NEC) on mortality in very low birth weight (VLBW) infants with intraventricular hemorrhage (IVH).
STUDY DESIGN: Data were collected on VLBW infants born 2014-2018 at Vermont Oxford Network (VON) centers. NEC and IVH were categorized by severity. Adjusted risk ratios (ARR) for in-hospital mortality were calculated.

Twenty-five clinical isolates of Legionella pneumophila serogroup I were classified as epidemic or sporadic on epidemiological grounds. All were isolated from patients at the Medical Center Hospital of Vermont (MCHV) in Burlington between 1977 and 1983.
