Astigmatism (60.6%) was the most prevalent type of refractive error followed by myopia (37.5%).

RATIONALE: The best treatment protocol for radiation maculopathy in children has not been determined. The purpose of this study was to determine the effect of photodynamic therapy (PDT) on radiation maculopathy.
PATIENT CONCERNS: An 11-year-old boy who was originally diagnosed with orbital rhabdomyosarcoma when he was 1 year old, in October 2008. The lesion improved after peripheral blood stem cell transplantation, chemotherapy and radiation therapy. A cataract was detected in his right eye in May 2011, and he underwent cataract surgery in July 2011. Continuous amblyopia training maintained h…

Lamellar keratoplasty procedures have gained momentum in the field of corneal transplantation because of their inherent advantages over full … e, and minimal astigmatism, thereby producing faster visual rehabilitation and timely initiation of amblyopia therapy in children. Although the use of lamellar grafts is increasing in adults, their relatively slower adoption in pediatric population is attributable to the steep learning curve and lack of long-term follow-up data. We describe the challenges a …

INTRODUCTION: Hooch blindness following consumption of adulterated alcohol has been known for centuries.
OBJECTIVE: To study cases of mass alcohol intoxication followed by Hooch blindness in eastern India.
MATERIALS AND METHODS: Ten patients of toxic amblyopia collected from a community mass intoxication following consumption of adulterated alcohol were studied. The parameters studied were the findings of ocular examination, applanation tonometry, automated perimetry and visual-evoked potential (VEP). As a part of the special investigations fundus photography and OCT were done. Routine blood…

Bilateral congenital cataract is the most common cause of treatable childhood blindness. Nuclear cataract is usually present at birth and is non-progressive, while lamellar cataract usually develops later and is progressive. Prompt surgery has to be performed in cases with dense congenital cataract: if nystagmus has developed, the amblyopia is unfortunately irreversible. A treatment regime based on surgery within 2 months of life, combined with prompt optical correction of the aphakia and occlusion therapy with frequent follow-up, have been successful in both unilateral and bilateral cases. Th…

Ocular complications of atopic dermatitis in adults are blepharitis, keratoconjunctivitis, keratoconus, uveitis, subcapsular cataract and re … ctivitis, one had purulent bacterial conjunctivitis, one had chronic atopic blepharitis and one had amblyopia. Severity of atopic dermatitis, face involvement, and external ocular signs did not seem to influence the incidence of ocular involvement. This study suggests that severe ocular complications are rare in young children with mild atopic dermatitis.

PURPOSE: To report visual results in pediatric patients with high anisometropia following aggressive amblyopia treatment using traditional methods.
METHODS: Charts of one physician, JM, were reviewed at a major university medical center for all patients with anisometropia of eight diopters or greater. Patients ranged from children with severe unilateral high myopia due to retinopathy of prematurity to one infant with severe microphthalmos, acoria, and congenital cataract. Four patients were identified. Final Snellen acuities were reported from the patient's last clinic examination. Average fo…

BACKGROUND: The ideal and safe surgical method for Marfan-associated or idiopathic lens subluxations is still a matter of debate.
PATIENTS AND METHODS: Between 1990 and 1995, 23 eyes were operated for lens subluxations, mainly because of decreased visual acuity, but also because of conservatively uncontrolled secondary glaucoma. Marfan patients were 27.0 (5-62) years old at surgery; patients with idiopathic lens subluxations were 38.5 (11-63) years old. Surgical procedure depended on patient age and anatomical conditions.
RESULTS: All patients achieved an increase in visual acuity. Amblyopia…

Noonan syndrome is a genetic condition inherited in an autosomally dominant manner, characterised by congenital heart disease, short stature, abnormal facies and the somatic features of Turner's syndrome, but a normal Karyotype. The ophthalmological and orthoptic findings on 58 patients with Noonan syndrome are reported. External features were hypertelorism (74%), downward sloping palpebral apertures (38%), epicanthic folds (39%) and ptosis (48%). The orthoptic examination revealed strabismus in 48%, refractive errors in 61%, amblyopia in 33%, and nystagmus in 9% of cases. Sixty-three per cent…

Of 39 members in a family with autosomal dominant aniridia with variable expressivity, 16 members, representing 50% (15 out of 30) of those at risk, were affected. Ocular strabismus, a common condition in the present generation is an absolute risk factor for amblyopia and blinding premorbid visual loss. Despite the availability of new optometry tools with eye-tracking data, the issues persist in attaining accuracy and reliability in diagnosing strabismus. These two concerns are specifically accommodated in this study by the proposed novel approach that involves CNNs with eye-tracking datasets from subjects. The presented work aims to improve the accuracy of diagnostics in ophthalmology utilizing the integration of the further proposed algorithms into an …
