Cephalometric evaluation of surgical mandibular advancement.

The treatment of Class II adult individuals with mandibular deficiency has been the combination of orthodontic treatment and orthognathic surgery. Therefore, a study was conducted in which cephalometric analysis was used to evaluate the influence of dentoalveolar decompensation in Class II patients submitted to orthodontic and surgical treatment for mandibular advancement, by bilateral osteotomy of the mandibular ramus. A sample of 15 leukoderma adult female patients were selected and three cephalometric radiographs of each patient, taken before the orthodontic treatment, before surgery and af

Delayed formation of a lower second premolar.

Delayed odontogenesis of a lower second premolar is presented in a case treated without extraction and focuses on the 7-year follow-up of the delayed tooth bud. The follow-up was initiated when the crown formation was diagnosed and was finished when the tooth erupted completely into the orthodontically provided space, which enabled the orthodontic leveling and alignment of the delayed premolar. The long follow-up indicates that delayed tooth buds may develop completely and normally.

Use of an osseointegrated implant for dental rehabilitation after cleft repair by periosteoplasty: a case report.

OBJECTIVE: We report here on a patient with unilateral cleft lip and alveolus who underwent dental rehabilitation of cleft alveolus using an osseointegrated implant after cleft repair by periosteoplasty. The patient, whose lateral incisor was congenitally missing, had periosteoplasty, followed by excellent bone formation at the cleft alveolus within 2 years. After the completion of orthodontic alignment of the maxillary dental arch, a Brånemark single-tooth implant was placed into the bone-formed alveolus. CONCLUSION: This treatment procedure offers an option of dental rehabilitation for the

Lower intercanine width and gingival margin changes. A retrospective study.

OBJECTIVE: To determine if changes in the lower intercanine widths during orthodontic treatment with fixed appliances result in gingival margin changes around the lower canines and incisors. METHOD: Pre- and post-treatment intra-oral photographs and orthodontic study models of 178 Caucasian adolescents (101 female, 77 male) were used. All subjects were treated with fixed appliances. The subjects had mean ages of 11.41 (SD: 1.83) years and 14.91 (SD: 1.78) years on their initial and final records respectively. The latter were taken 28 days or more after the appliances had been removed. The inc

Interrelationships of brain, cranial base and mandible.

The purpose of this study is to evaluate the neural and masticatory growth factors that contribute to the development of the cranial base. Cephalometric and submentovertex (SMV) radiographs of 66 adult human skulls, of Caucasian (India) origin and unknown gender were used in this study. Results indicate that the cranial base, posterior to the foramen caecum, develops in response to brain growth. The part anterior to the foramen caecum develops in response to the mandible. Our findings indicate that: 1. the glabella instead of the nasion should be considered as the most anterior point of the cr

Radiographic evaluation of apical root resorption with 2 different types of edgewise appliances. Results of a randomized clinical trial.

The purpose of this paper was to compare radiographically the prevalence and degree of apical root resorption after treatment with a fully programmed edgewise appliance (FPA) and a partly programmed edgewise appliance (PPA) in a randomized multipractice clinical trial. Two groups of patients with Class II malocclusions were treated orthodontically. The type of treatment was randomly assigned by a computer program. During fixed appliance therapy, one group was treated according to the precepts of the straight wire concept (FPA; n = 32) while the other was treated with conventional full edgewise

Association between the Obstructive Sleep Apnea and Cephalometric Parameters in Teenagers.

BACKGROUND: OSA is a common problem in children and adolescents. Angle class II malocclusion, a tendency toward the vertical type of growth, causes a decrease in the volume of the oral air space, increasing the risk of OSAS. The aim of this study was to evaluate the relationship between cephalometric and OSA parameters, to develop collaborative approaches between orthodontists and somnologists in the treatment of adolescents with OSA. METHODS: We analyzed data from 41 adolescents with OSA. Their mean age was 15.8 ± 1.08 years. Orthodontic and polysomnographic examinations of patients were con
