BACKGROUND: Advanced diagnostic imaging is an essential part of preoperative planning for oral and maxillofacial surgery in veterinary patients. 3-dimensional (3D) printed models and surgical guides generated from diagnostic imaging can provide a deeper understanding of the complex maxillofacial anatomy, including relevant spatial relationships. Additionally, patient-specific 3D printed models allow surgeons and trainees to better examine anatomical features through tactile and visuospatial feedback allowing for improved preoperative planning, intraoperative guidance, and enhanced trainee educ

BACKGROUND: Bilateral sagittal split osteotomy (BSSO) is commonly used to correct mandibular deformities but may cause neurosensory disturbance (NSD) of the lower lip due to potential injury to the inferior alveolar nerve (IAN). The purpose of this study was to evaluate the effect of LSS 3 on postoperative neurosensory disturbances. The hypothesis of this study was that the LSS 3 split pattern would extend the recovery time of neurosensory disturbance.
MATERIAL AND METHODS: The retrospective cohort study included patients who underwent BSSO surgery in Erciyes University, Oral and Maxillofacia

Surgery to narrow the chin is usually combined with mandible reduction, both of which may greatly improve the aesthetics of the lower face. However, some patients have a disproportionately wide chin without an excessive mandible angle. In these cases, it is possible to achieve a harmonic and well-balanced lower face by simply narrowing the anterior portion of the mandible, including the chin, and leaving the posterior part of the mandible untouched. Patients with a wide chin not willing to undergo mandible angle reduction or those with no indications for mandible reduction were considered prim

Four mandibular screw-plate locking systems were studied in sheep. Three to four centimetres angular continuity resections of the mandible were performed and the defects bridged with pre-bent angular reconstruction plates fixed with four screws in the body part and three in the ramus. Each type was used four times. Clinical and radiological examinations were carried out 1 and 2 months later. All sheep were able to eat and ruminate normally throughout the postoperative period. Radiology revealed that 6/16 plates and 5/112 screws fractured during the follow-up period. In one type, no fracture oc

Variations and anomalies of upper extremities have been commonly reported in routine dissection, clinical practices, and cadaver studies. Despite ongoing research on arterial variations of upper extremities, the absence of bilateral ulnar artery is extremely rare with only 3 patients reported. As the authors are presenting a successfully treated patient, initially prepped for radial forearm osteocutaneous free flap for treatment on oromandibular defect after a wide resection of head and neck cancer lesion, being confirmed to have bilateral ulnar artery hypoplasia and due to this, the patient h

INTRODUCTION: Oral health is essential for combat readiness. The classification for combat readiness includes the Dental Fitness Categories, which are used to estimate a soldier's need for emergency dental care while deployed overseas. When the issue at hand is in regard to unerupted or additional teeth, the treating dentist faces a difficult decision since there is no evidence-based practice guidelines.
CASE REPORT: An otherwise healthy 20 year-old soldier initially presented to his general physician (Role I) with toothache in the lower jaw. The initial referral to a general dentist (Role II
