BACKGROUND: Phototherapy requires an individually adapted therapeutic regime that is based upon the minimal erythema dose for each patient. Whereas this is well established for UV-B broadband, so far no standardized equipment existed that allowed for determination of the MED for UV-B 311 nm narrowband irradiation. HISTORY AND CLINICAL FINDINGS: A 50-year-old female patient underwent extirpation of a moderately differentiated, partially tubular ductal carcinoma of the left mamma and dissection of the left axilla followed by postoperative radiation therapy (total dose 58/48 gy). 2 weeks after the radiation therapy was stopped, treatment with goserelin subcutaneously was started. 6 weeks later numerous open and closed comedons appeared which were sharply confined to the radiation areas of left mamma and sternum.

Between October 1989 and January 1991 five children with brain stem tumors were treated with sequential chemo- and radiotherapy. The polychemotherapy consisted of procarbazine, ifosfamide, etoposide, methotrexate, cisplatin and cytosine arabinoside. Cutaneous fusariosis is an opportunistic mycosis in immunocompromised patients. We present a novel variation of an immunocompromised patient who developed fusariosis in a previously irradiated site. Irradiation led to atrophy, contraction, fibrosis, barrier disruption, and an altered dermal environment in which the infection developed. Significantly, this is the first case report of fusariosis in a previously irradiated site of an immunocompromised patient. Treatment included debridement and voriconazole.

The purpose of this study was to describe the toxicity of concurrent standard dose adjuvant radiation therapy (RT) and paclitaxel in a series of patients receiving primary breast cancer therapy.
