OBJECTIVE: Third molars (M3s) are the teeth most frequently affected by agenesis in modern human permanent dentition. Despite extensive research, reported prevalence rates vary considerably across populations and study designs. The present systematic review and meta-analysis aimed to provide an updated global estimate of the prevalence and patterns of M3 agenesis by incorporating evidence published since the previous comprehensive review by Carter and Worthington (2016).
DESIGN: A systematic search was performed in PubMed, Scopus, Virtual Health Library, SciElo, and Open Access Theses and Dis

BACKGROUND: Supernumerary teeth (SPNs), as common odontogenic developmental anomalies, not only cause local complications such as dental crowding and impaction but also serve as key oral manifestations of multiple genetic syndromes. CASE PRESENTATION: We report a case of multiple SPNs (7 teeth with an odontoma) in a 17-year-old Chinese male who presented without any genetic syndromes. Clinical examination revealed a permanent dentition exhibiting Angle Class II malocclusion with dental crowding, featuring an ectopically erupted tooth 34 positioned lingual to tooth 35, two supernumerary teeth i

OBJECTIVE: Low cognitive ability may reduce the ability to understand the importance of oral health and to perform the necessary practices to maintain proper oral hygiene. Early loss of primary teeth following high caries risk may lead to malocclusion of permanent dentition. This study aimed to evaluate the relationship between the cognitive levels of adolescents and their orthodontic treatment needs.
MATERIAL AND METHODS: Between January 2018 and May 2018, 200 adolescents aged 10 - 15 who applied to the Pediatric Dentistry Clinic of Marmara University and sought orthodontic treatment were in

Papillon-Lefèvre syndrome (PLS) is a rare autosomal recessive disorder of keratinization associated with palmoplantar keratoderma and severe periodontitis resulting in complete edentulism in late adolescence. The pathognomonic dental features of PLS are pathologic migration, hypermobility, and exfoliation of the teeth without any signs of root resorption. It has been suggested that an effective way to treat PLS patients presenting early in the disease progression is extraction of the erupted primary dentition or hopeless permanent teeth followed by antibiotic coverage with periodontal therapy
